I will be running a Realms campaign with a loooong time frame. The PC is a dragon. The question is how to do all of the various things such a time scale will involve, without killing the essence and feel for the Realms?

The campaign begins in Cormyr, and will be centered about it. I have read Volo's guide, but it seems to describe another era, specifically a happier and more prosperous time. What are your thoughts and opinions on the reactions of the people. While I have read stoies about old Azoun, I know only what I have read in the FR Guide for Allisuair and Calundini, any further thoughts on their personalities and motivations would be appreciated.

Maybe you should then start waaayyy back in the past;-)
But earnest, did you read Cormyr- an antology and the two follow ups On the High Road and Death of the Dragon? I think these are good to get into the characters.

Plus Elminster's Daughter, which is our only detailed source on Caladnei. And read "After the Dragon" (Dragon Annual #5) and "The Long Road Home" (The Best of the Realms Book II: The Stories of Ed Greenwood) for more on the aftermath of the war.

Cormyr: A Novel (not an anthology) is essential if you want to understand Cormyr well enough to extrapolate its history. I would definitely start this hundreds of years back, not in the official 'present'.

-There are all of the 2e Arcane Age sourcebooks. They have tips, as well as material to work with.

EDIT: Nevermind. I mistook what you meant.

you could relate the dragon to a clan of elves or dwarfs, it could give it a notion of stabiliti due to their long lives

everyting changes around him but the elves and/or dwarfs (they at least not that much9

Cormyr shows up in the Return of the Archwizards also.
