You heard it yes!

It all starts with Halaster Blackcloak getting ****** with the Lords of Waterdeep getting too involved with his business. He then contacts two moderately powerful forces: King Obould Many-Arrows and frost giants loyal to Auril. Over the next several years, Halaster uses his divination magic to give Obould the information he needs to defeat as many enemies as he can, but rather than completely destroy them, he absorbs the orc tribes and conscripts the non-orcs. Meanwhile, Halaster tutors the frost giants in magic, while the clerics of Auril develop a way to bring all of Waterdeep under a torrential snowstorm. Then the two forces unite under one banner. The then begin a death march towards Waterdeep. Snowstorm, one invisible giant wizard/rogue gets through, opens a gate, army gets in. BAM! Halaster, Obould, and the clerics of Auril are THE Lords of Waterdeep!

WA-BAM!

However, there are quite possibly MILLIONS of things I've overlooked. Comment please!

I could possibly see the frost giants taking to the arcane art, and possibly doing quite well in that, especially if they get tutoring.

But I'm not sure, if Halaster would have the long term patience to tutor anybody. Not with his short spark.

A nice idea though.

Actually there are a whole heap of other reasons why this would never work.

Firstly Gerti Orrelsdottr is a staunch supremacist.
Gerti believes that Frost Giants are better than every other race and therefore have a right to rule all others, in Auril's name of course. Therefore she would only ever ally herself with those that she could control, such as Obould. She considers Obould to be a filthy smelly little orc that she can do away with once he has served his purpose, that of cannon fodder against the Silver Marches. So Gerti would never agree to any alliance that would leave her as just "a" Lord of Waterdeep, "The" Lord of Waterdeep however is a different story.

Halaster on the other hand believes himself to be better than all others no matter what their race/creed/colour. He is after all quite insane.
Yet he has never, AFAIK, had any expansionist plans or needs. Just the opposite, he is a very much into isolationism.
In his domain, Undermountain, he rules supremely and is free to pursue his "experiments" with impunity. Why would he want to have to concern himself with running Waterdeep or any other area when he would most certainly have to venture forth from his cosy, and extremely deadly to others, little den?
Who exactly is supposed to have "got involved with his business" as you say? Other than the VERY occasional adventurer, eg. Mirt, who manages to venture into Undermountain and get out alive, noone even comes close to bothering him at all.
As is I'm sure that Khelben really doesn't care aout Halaster one little bit. But if Halaster started poking his head up around Waterdeep creating problems, then him and Laeral would gladly hand it back to him in a little box.
Halaster knows this. He may be insane but he is far from stupid.

I also see the aforementioned qualities of both Gerti and Halaster as putting a large crimp in your plans for Halaster to tutor some of the Frost Giants in the arcane arts.
And if that isn't enough, Gerti is currently training as many Frost Giants as she can to be clerics of Auril to increase her power base. So why would she let any that have a magical inclination be trained by a pathetic little human in magic not granted by her god?

Then there is also the problem of Gerti and Obould having to march their armies through the Silver Marches on the way to Waterdeep.
Now considering the recent inception of the League of the Silver Marches I doubt that either of them would get very far into their march when they would be faced by a very large and cohesive force opposing them.
And there really isn't much chance of moving an army of the size, and inclination, of Oboulds through the Silver Marches without alerting the League of it's whereabouts.
Considering the strength of the League and their allies, the remaining Seven Sisters, Elminster, the Harpers etc., I doubt that there would be much of an army left to get to Waterdeep let alone storm it.

In essence it wouldn't just be a straight up battle at the gates of Waterdeep between the Halaster/Gerti/Obould grouping in the black corner and Waterdeep in the red corner as you seem to have inferred. More likely they would have to take on nearly every living soul from the Silver Marches to the gates of Waterdeep to achieve their goal.

This isn't intended to flame or belittle your plan Zar Niln, but these issues would have to be dealt with before I could accept the sacking of Waterdeep by the above mentioned forces.

P.S. Once they take Waterdeep how long before they wring each others necks? :D

there is only one army to ruin waterdeep;

creeping doom
a grtwyrm red dragon
10 wyrm dragon
100 very old dragon
thousands of adult dragon
ten thousands of young dragon
millions of slaves
thirty elven high mage

you can't ruin waterdeep with some filthy orcs, if waterdep is fallen to an army, then the army could ruin any town, waterdeep is the best secure town in realms perhaps!

Ok... if you want Halaster to host an invasion of Waterdeep... I would suggest the following, its more realistic.... Firstly forget the Frost Giants, previous people made good points about them not likely to ally themselves with the Orcs and Halaster. Obould on the other hand, would be interested if he was assured great plunder... So... what ya do.. is make Halaster send some "pets" to aid Obould, and have Oboulds actual orcish horde increase. Then have Halaster create several temporary teleportation circles, transporting all of the orcish horde into undermountain. Have the horde errupt from the sewers (on the same night) in all different parts of town and have them all wielding torches as well as weapons. Have them burn the town, attack the barracks, and knock down the mage's guild. At this point have Halaster unleash many of his "pets" into city where the Orcs are not. So the city will be attacked in several locations at once, the fire will erupt causing even more havoc, Halaster's pets will cause a crap load of trouble. Realistically this would make the watch and mage's guild nearly useless... as they would be taken out quickly. Powerful adventurers and Blackstaff would come to stop the invasion, but it takes them at least several minutes to get ready... and by that time, there is just too much stuff going on... So they'll be busy with sections of the city. At that point have Halaster unleash all his experiments into the city, and go back to Undermountain to continue having fun with err... himself lol.. Obould realizes he cant get back to his fortress and realizes he is stranded here... At this point he attempts to parley with Khelben Blackstaff, who would have too much on his hands to not accept a decent proposal (mainly that the orcs get teleported back to the Spine of the World). Halaster's experiments then are destroying the city and causing more than enough havoc, the Orcs and Humans at this point band together, because they realize the experiments are not making any distinction between Orc and other creatures... they are just destroying everything... considering how much Halaster has down there... there should be plenty of stuff... If you want the Orc/Waterdahvian alliance to win, let em win, but the town is badly damaged, thousands of people have been slaughtered... and Everyone really hates Halaster... So expect some paid adventures to go into undermountain (that just means they will be better equipped... chances of them living arent great though hehe).

In our Toril (or the Toril we play in), Waterdeep was torched and somewhat sacked by a concerted attack by a powerful Tanarukk and his army... If it wasnt for Gruumsh Avatar attacking the Tanarukk, well Waterdeep would be full of Orcs and Tanarukks. And because the Tanarukk was my pc, I planned out the entire attack... MUAHAHAH :) (it was similar to the one above, except several teleportation circles were opened all at once... and poof Waterdeep was nearly all in ruins within minutes)

why should halaster wants to ruin waterdeep???
if waterdeep involves in his business, well, they can'T! undermountain is one of the biggest dungeons in faerun! think that elminster creates a dungeon, it's something bigger! el's CL is 29 and halaster's is 30. If waterdeep enters undermountain, they can't got out! and halaster is really "happy" in undermountain, he doesn't get old, he is usually sane, but when he gets out, he is always lucid. he has a great intelligence, he can't get fooled by people.

once sammaster was mortal and a chosen one of mystra, he learned necromancy and found cult of the dragon, I'm opening in his honor,

just kiding
