Hmmm.... this seems a bit suspicious to me.

The title says Sundering of the World... will this module contain some Toril-shattering (or at least majorly modifying) event to explain in-game the change from 3/3.5E to 4E?

If so... what are the community's thoughts on what it might entail?

I'll keep a subscription to this thread and we can start a pool... my complete set of Icons dragon minis to the winner (just kidding... but I will happily send out 10 goblin warrior minis to the winner :]).

Thoughts?

Maybe. The timing does make one wonder...

It would be consistent to the events looming on the horizons of Mr. Kemp's latest novel.

I think all of the RSE's in the last few years are cumulating now into one big event. After this, the realms will (hopefully) calm down again to a status similar to the one before the arrival of the city of Shade.

Let's hope the title is more hyperbole. Otherwise it'd be a major turnaround from the designers' thoughts in 2001 (http://shadow.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/fr/20010221).

Ah, you must mean this part:

James Wyatt: We've tried throughout to avoid any kind of RSE ("Realms-Shaking Event") to give an in-game reason for the rules shifts that have happened.

I'm with you hoping the title is a serious exaggeration (a cracked open planet?).

Given that the adventures are not likely to be taking us into the high epic range (30+) just how realms shaking can they be? Especially since the time line will follow the idea tha if your PCs don't defeat the sharrans then some other group eventually will and we will back to the status quo. WHat I would really like ( but a ton of others here would hate I grant) is to have a concluding epilogue where Elminster, the Shrinshee and a few others manage to cast a major epic spell similar to the dragonrage Mythal and simply shut off the shadoweave from Toril forcing Shade to crash and cutting off all the shades and shadow weave users permanetly and letting us get back to a "properly" balanced world. Yes I know that won;t happen butI can dream :P
