It's actually not as bad as you think, but it is a little difficult to see the aboveground terrain/locations. I would have preferred a transparent map that you could lay over the map from the FRCS.

I'd be more concerned about whether it is really that small! :D If it was just large enough to read the legend I likely wouldn't mind the darkness of the map. It is, after all, the underDARK. :D

LOL! It's definitely not that small. It's two full pages, and the locations in Underdark are very easy to see. However, because of the darkness of the map, it's hard to see the overlayed aboveground map.
