Ok, here is my problem. After playing in a humanoid campaign the dm of the sessions asked me to join up with his "real group" as he put it. I have since found out this group and the campaign they are in has been going on for 15 years. After they achieve a certain goal/level they play the next generation of their character's family. I am kinda intimidated on walking into such an established campaign. Any thoughts on how to approach this?
Thanks in Advance

Just go for it. Groups that have been playing together might actually enjoy the fresh input from a relatively new player.

Rock and roll, man! Consider yourself lucky... I can't get into a good game at all, let alone one that has lasted that long.
My only suggestion is to create a family - a lineage - that you can play with throughout concurrant generations.
Have fun!! :D

As a DM, that's what I did.

My current group has two players from the "old days" that have established lineages. Technically, they are playing their previous character's offspring. I have 4 "new" players, and they greatly enjoy the fact that we have an established history of our own instead of just the one presented in the various FR products and such.

I suggest you follow Thysl's advice and have fun!

I'd definately speak to the GM and make sure he's aware of your concerns. If he's a good GM, he'll have a good plot hook with which to bring in your character.

But with a long-running campaign like that, you also have the advantage of history. Ask if there have been any dangling plot threads that you can play around with and try and work into your new character's history. If you can find a way of tying things back to some of the previous characters, in a round about way, it could result in a lot of fun. After all, wouldn't it be cool to have someone from the "old guard" say "oh! Is that what that was?! I've always wondered about that!"

Be creative and have fun with it. And if your GM doesn't have any good ideas, go ahead and talk to the other players. Just let them know that you want to be a part of the community.

One possibility you can pursue is to play something long lived, such as an elf or a dwarf and come in, having known their elder relatives, and you made a promise to one of them that you'd watch over their progeny.

Well here is an update on the topic. This afternoon I was introduced to the players (which I was greeted warmly by all but one of the 6 players). The setting is out of Waterdeep. The players have formed kinda like a clan/adventuring company/mercenary group of various races ranging from humans to a family of thri-kreens! They hire themselves out to various power groups in the realms (in the past different generations have worked for the Harpers, Lords of Waterdeep and even the Zhentarim) Currently we are starting a new generation. The group is recruiting new blood (which is where I come in)
We are starting out at 5th level. Now I need a character Idea. I was thinking of playing a psychic rogue as I have never played a charcter with psionics. Plus as this whole situation is new to me why not go for something I never played :D. But this idea is not totally concrete so I am fielding any ideas you guys have.
Thanks In Advance
