| xlawedjeanne08-16-05, 10:36 PM | and i have emerged myself in so much i feel as if i am drowning ><. i recently learned dnd about a month ago. and as for fr, i have recently (and coincidently) read silent blade like a month before i got into dnd (and it didnt get me into dnd, toee did :)). since i figured out that silent blade was part of dnd, which was part of fr i decided to get the fr campaign. i orignially planned on making my own campaign, but it was just to much. after playing saltmarsh from dm guid 2, i got into playing premade campaigns with my own adventures and stuff. just today i picked the fr campaign over ghostwalk (i really wanted ghostwalk caus it was undead, and lets say lm is my fav book ><. but i decided fr would apeal to my players more <i am dm =/> and would last longer. with that said i need help defiantly. where do i go beyond the campaign book? all the book does is give me a list of areas and like one npc. but i want to actually play in those areas (duh), but i dont know where to start. for instance, where people are from is a big factor. well if they are from different places, how can i start them off? it must be understood that throughout my month of playing simply adventures, a campaign is a very big leap for me. also, where can i get more in depth info? i really think i may need grid maps of everywhere, as the book doesnt give many at all. and without grid maps i cant do very much ><. is there any maps of fr beside the one they gave you? where can i get these maps? also npc.... do they have more npc stats somewhere? i would love wulfgar or at least the annoying regis to be in there somewhere ><. but drizzit and entereri is boring -.- (tho doesnt entereris dagger have the ability to drain life? in the book it says its a defending dagger  ). well basically i need more. and money is hard to get for me. (i am 13) so first off, is there any free resoursces that may help? if so, tell me where please. also is there stuff i can buy like detailed maps? i would apreciate any helps please ><. thankyou (excuse my grammar) |

| steventirey198508-17-05, 01:20 AM | First of all, you got the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, right? all the book does is give me a list of areas and like one npc. but i want to actually play in those areas (duh), but i dont know where to start. Assumming that you did in fact get the FRCS, most of the areas described have a little section at the end of them giving ideads for adventures (under Plots and Rum0rs). As for NPCs, I counted 30. Not including the ones that are included in the 2 adventures also in the book. i really think i may need grid maps of everywhere, as the book doesnt give many at all. and without grid maps i cant do very much ><. is there any maps of fr beside the one they gave you? where can i get these maps? . Again, assumming it was the FRCS, mine came with a big fold out map, and the book contains slightly more detailed maps for some areas, in those areas descriptions. also npc.... do they have more npc stats somewhere? i would love wulfgar or at least the annoying regis to be in there somewhere ><. but drizzit and entereri is boring -.- . Since I know you know where the Forgotten Realms message boards are, look under the Peoples and Places section. As for where to go from here? Book wise, you could pick up Players Guide to Faerun, Monsters of Faerun, Magic of Faerun, and I'm pretty sure there are others, but they escape me for the moment. |
| Spirithawkfellow08-17-05, 02:02 AM | Being that you are starting a game in the Realms, for the frist time, and since you stated that you are 13, I wish you well, my advice to you, is really read the Campaign book back and forth. The novels and the roleplaygame resources can be different as you saw with Artemis Entiri. Start real small, pick a small town, or a part of a city where you can grow with your players. this allows you to take the time to build up your DM Skills as well as find out what your players like. Another thing your players might be, interested in is music as a soundtrack, and background music it allows for a great sense of movie drama, or action. Remember read the books, should you need help you can always leave me a e-mail, I've run the Realms for Ten years, Eberron, and i Have my own campaign world, so I know a little bit about DMing, but you can ask anybody here and i think they can help. I saw start at shadowdale, it always makes a great jump of spot, or daggerdale, mistledale. If you start at Ten Towns becasue you want regis or Wulfgur, i have a hint for you. those characters are great supporting characters, but your players are the characters of your game, your novel, those character can over shadow your PC and you don't want that. Plus having regis and wulfgar with out Dritzz, catiebree, or bruenor would be strange indeed, it like having a cheese sandwich with out the cheese lol. Good luck with you campaign. Spirit |

| Meyverya08-17-05, 09:32 AM | It would be nice if all the FR stuff were somehow all located in one book, but that book would be gigantic and I would be loathe to carry it. Wulfgar's stats are in the Silver Marches book, along with Bruenor's. Also, as cool as novel NPCS are ( and yes, they really really are), they aren't meant to be the stars of the show and thus aren't the main focus of the Campaign setting. As far as more depth into the places your characters can be from, look at Races of Faerun and the Player's Guide to Faerun. Mmmmmm... Players Guide to Faerun. It has 3.5 updates on prestige classes, places and more details on the regions. There are a few errors in that book concerning labelling the pictures, but hey, you can't have a book that's that informative AND perfect. And um... grid maps are only used when they are giving sample adventures. They leave the grids for the DMs! Also, I would recommend the books listing areas of Faerun if you happen to be adventuring ( ie, Unapproachable East for Rashemen, Shining South for Halruaa, etc) |

(though i am considering employing entereri for the first poster ) |
| ElGrecoETAC08-17-05, 11:10 PM | If you can, get your hands on the 2nd edition Forgotten Realms Adventures sourcebook. It has a ton of cities detailed and mapped, and would likely be right up your alley. Failing that, the "Volo's Guide to ..." series (available in the Downloads section) should give you tons of info (and maybe maps?) on the areas you'll likely need to focus on. |
| Spirithawkfellow08-18-05, 03:03 AM | There a great book known as the atlas of Faerun, that you might still be able to find, it has tons of maps and towns, it's second edition but it a excellent resource. |
| Jackhein08-19-05, 12:26 AM | i started dnd at 14 after reading the thousand orcs (first fr novel i read) i read all salvatores then RotAW and Elminster Saga along with others. So im in the same boat. Start somewhere familiar ( like mithral hall) and work through the silver marches (maybe get that source book) then work through some of the locals in the drizzt saga. it works pretty well just cause u know it after reading the books. After riding the salvatore locale train my PC's traveled to westgate and i have a pretty good handling on it. so best of luck Jackhein |
| xlawedjeanne08-19-05, 10:04 PM | thanks so far :). but yea, what i really need is maps of towns and stuff. |
