| meigin10-12-06, 09:43 PM | there have been a few tip toes around the expanded regions in a couple threads, and I'm curious where we're all at. Do you love it / hate it - use them sparingly / plain ignore them, how does Kara Tur fit in to your Realms? Me - I love the setting and have the boxed sets, adventures the whole kit, I think its' a great extension and have utilised this portion of the Realms on a number of occassions. |
| Dark Wizard10-12-06, 09:56 PM | Those threads on Kara-Tur and the other continents are still on the forum, just inactive for now. No worries though, the topic pops up every few months. http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=686123 http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=516453 |
| Gray Richardson10-12-06, 10:45 PM | Kara-Tur is part of my Realms, although I have never taken my players there. It is very far away, an exotic land, but traders come through from there on occasion. Creatures like the Kenku and the Tako have migrated to Faerun from Kara-Tur. Come to think of it, a few years back I had my players come across a flooded plain when traveling across the Savage Frontier on their way to Neverwinter. Due to a freak storm, a magical gate had opened in the sea off the coast of Kozakura and had dropped a strange looking ship and a sizeable amount of water into the middle of the North. In the ship were a Samurai, a Ninja, a Wuj-Jen and a Shaman. They were the same exact level as the paladin, the rogue, the sorcerer and the cleric, my players PC's. The Kozakurans did not speak common or any language that the PC's spoke. They assumed the PC's had abducted them and were the cause of their shipwreck. A fight began. I truly enjoyed the moment when it dawned on the players that they were fighting evil oriental versions of their own characters. That was a really fun encounter. |
| Sir_Brakus10-13-06, 02:54 PM | Kara Tur... I love this place! when I was a DM, at least one of my players must be form there, either a monk, a ninja, a samurai... I create new clans of samurais, new races, new places... tha party goes often to Kara Tur, specially to Shou Lung, but the most exiciting adventures were in Kozakura... they help the emperor to stop a rebelion, and fight agains undead armies... later, some assassins were send to kill the party... was awesome... I hope wizards releases soon a new official Kara Tur book. |

| GothicDan10-13-06, 04:31 PM | Neutral towards the actual place; hate it in the Realms. Just like I hate a lot of places in the Realms, regardless of what they actuall are, due to too little detail and thought put into their integration into the established Realms history. It's not a matter of the content, so much as the absence of integration. |
| Gray Richardson10-13-06, 05:53 PM | I agree with you Dan that a well-written Kara-Tur sourcebook, with lots of lovingly-crafted detail, is vitally needed to better integrate Kara-Tur with the rest of the Realms. :) |
| Todesherr10-14-06, 08:19 AM | What part of Kara-Tur is Chinese oriented and what part is Japanese oriented? What deities do they worship? |
| Bladesong10-14-06, 10:47 AM | Shou Lung and its southern neighbor are Chinese oriented. The island nations of Kozakura and Wa are Japanese oriented. |
| meigin10-15-06, 11:13 PM | There are a number of other nations as well - Koryo (Korea), Tabot (Tibet), Tu Lung - which is the southern counterpart of Shou Lung - though they aint real good friends - sought of like Mulhorand and Unther actually. There are also a number of smaller kingdoms in the SE just like our own Earth SE Asia located in the Malotra Jungles - the names ellude me at present - will post when I get home. At the top end there is a "Siberian" wilderness quite a nasty place to wake up in . Intersting thing with Wa and Kozakura (both being a Japanese models) one is an empire while the other a shogunate. As has been pointed out there are a number of real world consistencies here, but hey your the DM make it how you ultimately want - I do. |
| MerrikCale10-16-06, 01:02 PM | we really do need a sourcebook on this. |
| The ShapeLess One10-16-06, 01:05 PM | I would like to see a source book about Kara Tur. |
