Law and Order, Crime and Punishment. [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-24-05, 09:50 AM Hello, I was wondering if there was any information on Law and Order in any of the realms books, mainly about the rather hash laws in Luskan and other shady cities, but I also need info on places like Waterdeeps criminal justice etc.

Ive read that Wulfgar novel by Salvatore years ago and it went into a lot of detail on Luskans ways of dealing with criminals, very harsh but goretastic!
I also read that Ravenbluff thing with Jack what-e's-name and how they deal with things there, questioned in court while under a truth spell etc.

Anyone got any good realms resources to share on the various methods of punishment used in the most well known cities my players might visit?

I need something I can use as a reference guide for my new game in which the players are going to be a travelling team of rogues (think oceans eleven/twelve) they are all neutral/chaotic or evil aligned and are gonna commit a lot of crimes in the course of the campaign and will do a few "big jobs" maybe even assassinations!

08-24-05, 10:34 AM You'll find that most of the regional Realms tomes deal with the issue of law and punishment to some degree -- detailing just a little with regard to each city and/or country. The two sources that immediately spring to mind are the Cormyr accessory and the sourcebook for Calimport.

Waterdeep's system of law and order has received an significant amount of focus in most of the 2e books on the city, and also in the more recent 3e tome on the City of Splendors.

In addition, most of the Volo's Guides provide brief snippets about the law and justice systems of many of the areas covered in each book.

And finally, Ed's scrolls over at Candlekeep include several paragraphs about law and order in the Realms. See Kuje's sig for the link.

So far the best I've found is in the last Dragon mag #334, page 33 Crimmor: city of caravans, realms article.

There's a nice reference table featuring a list of crimes with a key telling what punishment is suitable per crime.

Nice and clear, easy to use and good to clip onto the inside of your DM screen etc. Any chance of finding more stuff like this?
