So, we're playing through City of the Spider Queen and they got frustrated when they kept getting their rest interrupted in the main hall  ... so they decided to rest up outside somewhere. I told them that the password was likely to be changed if they left, so they said "that's allright, if they do, we'll just use Earthquake to bring the whole place down" :uh-huh: So how should I handle this? I mean, i reckon the vampires and the ghosts wouldn't mind too much, but the rest of 'em will... and then there's the third part of the castle, the one that's hanging from the ceiling, that should be safe too... what do you people think? |
| AvengedMutablegenus08-08-04, 07:02 PM | Hah, i have a party just like this. Either magically reinforce it so it will not be brought down or just let it go down, the party needs to realize that you're not always going to cater to their problems and that their actions make the game, so stupid actions make a stupid game |
| Thelandrach08-09-04, 01:29 PM | Whoever built the place knew the spell existed; there may well be traps in place to deal harshly with people who use such magics against it, if it was within the budget of the person building the place. I haven't looked at the spell myself (my current, first 3.0 campaign is only 6th level), but just by the name of it I would assume it isn't the greatest choice of spell for an underground campaign... |

Or when the Cleric attempts to cast the spell, inform him that his god is not granting him the power of the spell and it fails. Then have him do a Wisdom check (DC 15) and if he makes it, inform him that his god barred the spell due to the above result would happen. |
| ClobberinTime08-09-04, 02:43 PM | I agree with warlocko. It brings the ceiling down on them as well and now even if they manage to escape the collapsing roof they have no way of knowing how- where the etheral part of the citadel is. The will probably be shocked when the weave corruption continues unimpeded. |
| Panchaso08-09-04, 10:53 PM | hm... some good food for thought here... however, the "god doesn't grant the spell" approach won't do because the troublesome caster is a Warmage (Mini's Handbook). But it still takes a few castings to take the place down, so I could ask everyone to make some Int or Wis checks to realize that bringing down such a large column underground would most definetly bring the roof down - not a good thing for their health :smirk: |
