| bykov110-11-07, 06:00 PM | In reading Mr. Perkins blog and the reaction to it, I felt it only apripot to ask the populace in general.... What is your "less loved" area of the Realms? My groups campaign is a group called the Dragon's Claw. We ended up adopting the city of Elturel after it was nearly destroyed by the Zhentarim due to some of our meddling. We spent a majority of our "earnings" rebuilding the destroyed sections of the city (which is only about 30-40% complete after 2 years of game time). It has since become a semi-major trade hub between the southern kingdoms and the north. But alas, Elturel may face a greater evil, an evil that may wipe it from the face of Toril.......the 4E FR Team. *sigh* Bykov. |

| Rinonalyrna Fathomlin10-11-07, 07:41 PM | Hmm, what's the nature of this question? What area of the Realms do we like the least? Or, what area do we love, but don't think WotC also loves? All right, as for my least loved area of the Realms, there's...wait...hmm...it's not coming to me. I could have sworn there was a place in the Realms that I didn't like much, but I just can't think of what it might be. As for what areas do I like that WotC might not think are well liked? Western Heartlands. |
| MarkusTay6310-11-07, 07:55 PM | I thought I found something for a moment there - a tiny island off the coast of Kara-Tur... but then I realized it was a dead bug. ;) What areas do I think WotC doesn't love, or at least thinks we don't love? All of the areas that have been ignored in sourcebooks for the past TWO editions!!! If Unther, Mulhorand, and Chondath are so friggin important, why the hell haven't we seen a book on them!? Oh wait... thats right... they're too busy making Waterdeep book #27.... followed by the Return to Undermountain's deep lost levels episode 39... At least the last Cormyr product had nothing to do with Cormyr. :P |

What areas do I think WotC doesn't love, or at least thinks we don't love? Sorry, I should have been more concise. Which area/city/town in the realms do you love/consider home from your campaigns fall into what WotC/Perkins believe to be "less loved". Elturel, a city up the river from Baldur's Gate is where the Dragon's Claw called home for over 3 years of campaigning (5+ years of game time). Certainly, all of the Realms have been great to me over the years, but Elturel stands out above the rest. Thanks! Bykov. |
| BadCatMan10-11-07, 11:09 PM | I adopted a Vast game from someone else, it wasn't even my first choice - and I learned to love the place. I got into Chessenta purely because it was a bit like Ancient Greece, and loved it. I adopted Sword Coast South, and also fell in love. Then I looked at places like Sossal, Ulgarth and the Utter East out of curiousity, and again learned to love them. All these places I picked up more-or-less at random, and I love them and think they're great. Going by the evidence, I doubt there is anywhere in the Realms I couldn't learn to love. Well, except maybe places like the Dalelands, or Cormyr, or the Heartlands, Waterdeep or Menzoberranzan... Just not getting anything for them. :D |
| Mula10-12-07, 12:01 AM | I've always got the impression that the real world cultures smacked onto the face of Faerūn in 2e have never really been as widely embraced as most other regions. Mulhorand, Chessenta, Unther... and didn't Drizzt mention Mulhorand in the Orc King prologue when he was talking about places that hadn't been faring so well? Maybe we'll see a 're-imagined' Mulhorand in the 4e FRCG. |
| meto3010-13-07, 03:16 PM | I was introduced to DnD through Neverwinter Nights. Naturally, it is at Neverwinter and Sword Coast North that I feel most at home. But lately I've gained quite an interest in Thay. There's so much immorality and irresponsibility in Thay that I would just LOVE to run a campaign in Thay. Actually, I'm doing just that, because if players are to uncover the secrets of the prophecy they have to travel to Thaymount... However, neither Neverwinter nor Thay look like they're going to be erased anytime soon. If they EVER decide to do away with Neverwinter I am NOT buying anymore FR setting books. But that is very unlikely, because NWN is such a success. |
| johnkretzer10-13-07, 03:30 PM | I don't break down the Realms into regions and my games can spread the entire world(If the players want to leave the region I don't stop them). I have always seen the different regions as a whole. Sure I have ran games that took place mostly in one region...but the rest of the world still existed and had a effect on the region. I never saw the need to break up the Realms into a bunch of smaller settings. |
