| Gadodel07-04-03, 06:05 PM | No that Lhaeo is back in his homeland of Tethyr...who should be Elminister's new "Scribe"? Class(es)/PrC's/Levels/Race etc...etc. |
| jim931107-04-03, 06:08 PM | Why does a powerful wizard need a scribe, or servant, etc. Couldn't he find some magical way to write, cook, clean or whatever he needed done. I suspect that there is some before now unknown mage apprentice that will fill the position. How's that for a precise answer? |
| Gadodel07-04-03, 06:17 PM | I guess having a sidekick is a longstanding tradition....I mean, one of the reasons Batman is cool is because he has Alfred helping him out. :D |
| Psionycx07-04-03, 08:32 PM | Yeah, but El's bedding down in Aglarond more these days so he's less in need of an "Alfred" back in Shadowdale. I'm sure he'll address the issue if the need arises. |
| Gadodel07-04-03, 08:36 PM | Well, Shadowdale is where Elminster's office is...plus Greenwood will be making a Web Enhancement later this year about this issue.. Perhaps he will get some ideas from us! :D |
| Kuje3107-04-03, 10:11 PM | I could have swore that in one of the 2e products (Lands of Intrigue maybe?) it said they found a replacement Lhaeo who looks just like the old one...... |
| Gadodel07-04-03, 10:15 PM | Hmmm...I don't recall that... |

Almost correct. Lhaeo's replacement has an illusion cast on him to make him look like the old Lhaeo. This is chronicled in Lands of Intrigue in a letter from Lhaeo to Elminster. Lands of Intrigue is available for free download as a Free Realms Classic, but it's a good sized file. |

I knew I read it some where and thought it was in the box set. :) Thanks for clearing the rest of it up though. |
| Herr Doktor07-05-03, 12:26 AM | So has the real Lhaeo actually been busy in Tethyr all of this time? Who is the mysterious fakester running around the Sage of Shadowdales tower? Just a witty glammered golem of some sort? I'm confused. |

He was a lost king and he hid out in El's tower for years. He is now married to Zaranda Star, after she removed the goverment in Tethyr. Lhaeo returned there and together they rule Tethyr and they also have three children. |
| Gadodel07-05-03, 06:27 PM | Right. Soooo, who should be Elminster's new "Side Kick"... |
| Kuje3107-05-03, 06:32 PM | Originally posted by Gadodel Right. Soooo, who should be Elminster's new "Side Kick"... As was said, El has a new scribe who looks like Lhaeo. They found some one and cast a illusion on the person so no one realizes that El's old scribe has really left and now rules Tethyr. |
| Gadodel07-05-03, 06:35 PM | Ok...let me ask this a different way. WHO is that person? What are their abilities? What race? What class(es)/PrC's et al. I know the person may be wearing a disguise, but who are they really??? |
| K.C.07-05-03, 06:43 PM | He is...whomever you want him to be (well, whomever the DM wants him to be...) I don't think his identity has been defined in any FR product yet. Geez, people, let's use some imagination. Do you really need every little detail spelled out for you? Where is the fun, where is the mystery, in that? I DM an FR campaign, and it bears only a superficial semblence to the "offical" world. Everyone who runs an FR game should tweak and fiddle with it and make it HIS game world. The FRCS should only serve as a guide, and not treated as holy and unalterable Truth.... |

You forgot "...unless you want it to be." Be fair when sharing your opinion. Also, this argument is getting somewhat old. Some people prefer to use as much canon material as possible, and to stick to it. Some people don't. Let's leave it that? |

I know the person may be wearing a disguise, but who are they really??? Well we dont know that's the thing, since the last product that it was written for was 2e. I would say he's a human male, and he has the scribe kit that Ed wrote up a long time ago in Dragon, it was also the kit that Lhaeo had when he was a scribe. |
| Gadodel07-05-03, 08:59 PM | *laffs* We are having a communication breakdown here. I know that we don't know. I am asking what you think...i.e. want the new scribe to be! |
| Gadodel07-05-03, 09:04 PM | I think the new scribe should be a talented young human. Say around 20 years old, with some experience already. The key is that they have a lot of potential. "Jarai" HM...from somewhere in the Dalelands. The child of some well traveled merchant family. Being the third child, "Jarai" did not stand to inherit much of the family business, so "Jarai" became a scholar. Expert 2 Wizard 7 True Neutral...doesn't belong to any other organization, but is highly patriotic about preserving the Culture of the Dalelands. | bat14107-05-03, 11:27 PM | A young nubile, 80ish elf from the Elven Court who has a penchant for... Oh never mind that idea will never get past the filters. |
| Gadodel07-05-03, 11:31 PM | *laffs* Elminster wouldn't ever leave his shack. Elminster wouldn't ever need.... Oh, nevermind... |
| ElGrecoETAC07-06-03, 12:40 AM | You know, I just hope his new "Scribe" is more motivated and talented than Lhaeo. I just can't imagine anyone being anything more than just shiftless and lazy if they couldn't take any great lessons away from someone like Elminster. But that's what Lhaeo did... he walked away with barely an inling of magic, despite great stats shown the Hall of Heroes, and went on to become a puppet figurehead sitting on only half a throne back at Tethyr. Even if he ever decides to be a great ruler, Zaranda Starr will just wave her Vorpal sword at him and tell him to "sit down and look bland". There's a reason why he's "king" Lhaeo and she's Queen-Monarch. Lhaeo, to me, is like someone who had an opportunity to apprentice under a man that was a unique combination of James Dean, Leonardo DaVinci, Albert Einstein, and thermonuclear power... and walked away without hardly improving himself at all. |
| Iuducium07-06-03, 12:57 AM | Actually, in one of the recent novels (I forget exactly which one), the new "Lhaeo" is actually a human woman of around 24 years. She is taking lessons in wizardry from Elminster though, and she does have a glamer to make her look like Lhaeo, though she only uses it when other people (outside of the Chosen) are around. |
