| Emirikol08-19-07, 06:27 PM | LFR's coming and I'm wondering what the cool regions would be to get for that campaign? Obviously ones bordering on hostile areas will be classic, but what are your favorites? jh |
| PharaunMizzrym08-20-07, 01:21 AM | Thay. Were off to see the Red Wizard, the wonderful Red Wizard of Thay. (Turns out to be Szass Tam and a hot air balloon) |
| Sigurd van Norhusen08-20-07, 02:12 AM | Obviously Calimshan. |
| AdamB08-20-07, 08:23 AM | Hoping that the UK gets Cormyr!!!!!!!!:D |
| Suin Bahhar08-20-07, 10:02 AM | The North is cold... |
| charris25608-20-07, 01:55 PM | Hopefully the southwest will get Waterdeep region. Ch LIVING FORGOTTEN REALMS DISCUSSION GROUPS http://groups.google.com/group/living-forgotten-realms |
| PharaunMizzrym08-20-07, 10:47 PM | Each place in the realms has great potential for the creation of many memberable characters. Some realms, however will be harder than others to live in. I would like Unther or Chessenta for the political chaos, though Westgate would be great for the vampires. Who gets Shade, that's my question ( the Principality of Sealand should also get a realm in Livng FR, that would be cool). So how do the Living games work? |
| The_Shaman08-22-07, 08:37 AM | I wonder who will get the Shining South... Dambrath, the Great Rift, Haalrua, the trade states, the Shaar... this has promise imo. I somehow think a lot of people will be lining up to get the Thri-Kreen :D . |
| Fabius Maximus08-22-07, 09:16 AM | They compared Greyhawk's regions roughly to Earth's real regions in LG, so it's probable they'll do that with LFR too. Which means that Europe will either get the Heartlands, or all the stuff east of them (barring Anauroch) well down too Thay. :ahem: Not that I'll play LFR, but I'd rather have the Vilhon Reach than the Moonsea or Impiltur. |
| gomeztoo08-23-07, 07:08 AM | They compared Greyhawk's regions roughly to Earth's real regions in LG. I'm not sure how you are up to geography, but the Netherlands wre placed in land-locked Sunndi, and Switserland got the Dullstrand. California got the Pale... not exactly the same demographics. Btw I am rooting for the Moonshae Isles. |
| Purple Dragon Knight08-23-07, 02:29 PM | Province of Ontario, Canada: Luiren!! |
| Purple Dragon Knight08-23-07, 02:30 PM | Province of Ontario, Canada: Luiren!! or Songfarla!!! |
| MarkusTay6308-23-07, 03:49 PM | or Songfarla!!!AFAIK, Gnomes WILL NOT be part of 4e. At least not in PHB 1. ;) The Realm I'm hoping for - The land of evil undead monkeys!!! |
| MarkusTay6308-23-07, 04:14 PM | They compared Greyhawk's regions roughly to Earth's real regions in LG, so it's probable they'll do that with LFR too. Which means that Europe will either get the Heartlands, or all the stuff east of them (barring Anauroch) well down too Thay. Actually, if thats the way the do it, that's pretty scarey - http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y178/MarkusTay/world-map.jpg According to this (quickie) map, England, France, and Germany will get the Yehimals, and I'll be stuck with Northern Chult, or perhaps the Shining Sea. Too bad those guys in Atlantis get all the good stuff. ;) I have to admit, it works out pretty good for the rest of the continents - Central America gets Maztica and Australia gets Osse. :P |
| Eli_the_Tanner08-23-07, 11:56 PM | Is there any problem that Markus can't solve with the power of photoshop. |
| MarkusTay6308-24-07, 12:11 AM | Ever since I figured out how to work the controls, I'm like a kid in acandy store. :D I'm sure the novelty will wear off in a few months.... ;) |
| Fabius Maximus08-24-07, 08:13 AM | Actually, if thats the way the do it, that's pretty scarey - Markus, that made me laugh. :D What I meant is that they tried to match Earth regions to LG regions. So Germany had Ardri, a forrest kingdom. Central Europe was renowed for it's thick forrests at one time. And Italy got the Sea Barons, which also fits the country's history as a sea power. As I said, the comparision is rough. It builds on stereotypes and doesn't fit all LG regions. But it is there. |
| MarkusTay6308-24-07, 01:30 PM | I know what you meant, but I was just bored. :P Personally, I would like to get some place exotic, outside of the Heartlands. Perhaps, because I live on an Island, I will get Lantan or Nimbral? (I hope not Tharsault). If they really do divide the world up that way, who gets Thay and the Moonsea region? America? ;) |
| Fabius Maximus08-24-07, 01:58 PM | As I said: Everything east of the Heartlands would go to Europe. The Moonsea to Poland and Thay to one of the Balkan countries (or all of them), maybe even Turkey. (I actually don't know if there is a significiant amount of turkish D&D players...Would be interesting to know, though.) |
| MarkusTay6308-24-07, 02:24 PM | I don't think a devout Muslim would play D&D, but then again, nothing says they're all fanatics either. In fact, the few I know are pretty mellow and would probably play. |
| GothicDan08-24-07, 03:24 PM | I hope either the North East or the West Coast gets a good area. Not that I'll have time to do anything with it, of course. |
| kaor08-24-07, 03:28 PM | Some areas just aren't popular. I'm not sure I've ever heard of a campaign set in Luirien, Tashalar, Turmish or anywhere like that. That whole area from Chult to the Shaar is kind of empty of both gamers and novels and sourcebooks. That may just be my impression however. Sword Coast, Waterdeep, Silver Marches, Dalelands, Cormyr, Moonsea. Maybe Aglarond or something. Those are the popular areas it seems. Man, my mind would boggle if I got The Ride or Narfell or something as a home region. Just such an empty boring area. Nothing but flat cold plains full of demons and horse nomads. No civilization, probably a very small population of wizards and bards. And the gods. How exactly is Living FR going to handle the gods anyway? The Mulhorandi gods aren't exactly worshipped in Waterdeep. And if you got Dambrath Loviatar is supposedly the most popular god. S&M regalia gets a lot of play in fantasy artwork. I have the same reaction to it as I do polyester leisure suits. |
| GothicDan08-24-07, 03:32 PM | I love Narfell! :) Favorite regions for me include: Narfell, Halruaa, Thay, Aglarond, Evermeet, Cormyr, and the North. |
| True_Atlantean08-28-07, 07:50 AM | They compared Greyhawk's regions roughly to Earth's real regions in LG, so it's probable they'll do that with LFR too. Brilliant  - that means Australia will probably get Anauroch. The weather is comparative so it makes sense... |
| DanubusRann08-28-07, 01:19 PM | I would like to see a setting of the Western Heartlands with all the adventure areas there and towns or set up in the Cold Lands of Damara/Vassa/Great Glacier, etc. Im pretty tired of the whole North (IWD,NW, etc) and Im tired of Waterdeep, Silverymoon, etc. |
| msatran08-29-07, 01:34 PM | So Eastern Europe will get Impiltur, Damara, and Vaasa? That's crack on a stick. |
| CharginCrusader08-29-07, 08:08 PM | Brilliant  - that means Australia will probably get Anauroch. The weather is comparative so it makes sense... I think Alaska got the Duchy of Urnst, not very similar at all. ;) |
| Fabius Maximus08-30-07, 06:06 AM | So Eastern Europe will get Impiltur, Damara, and Vaasa? That's crack on a stick. It's just a guess. |
| Farinal09-01-07, 08:07 PM | It's really sad to read comments about Turkey. Well I dont like the half of my country too but come on we really love FR :D (mostly drizzt wannabes but thats something too) edit: I hope Turkey gets Silvermarches |
| captaincarot09-02-07, 04:56 AM | I don't think a devout Muslim would play D&D, but then again, nothing says they're all fanatics either. In fact, the few I know are pretty mellow and would probably play. when i was at college i had 3 non devout moslems playing in my groups. all 3 of em born in england and lived there all their lives. the difficulty was a) convincing their parents(emigrants to england born in asia) that it was only a game and you weren't trying to make them worship the devil b) convincing their parent's that once you had convetrted them to devil worship you weren't going to sacrifice them in some weird ritual. c) getting their parents to allow them more than 3.5 seconds per year where they did some thing other than go to the mosque or study to be a doctor. especially if ths time off from study involved the game from hell percieved above. then again i'm sure there's some bunch of hicks in back woods america who would think exactly the same as a and b above. thouch point c would be entirely different. |
| werty31309-02-07, 01:03 PM | Greatest place is of course Halruaa. South rocks :D |
| The Ubbergeek09-02-07, 01:19 PM | I guess canada will take much or the north or the moonsea region - rougher climates, wilderness, woods.... Neverwinter's region to us, Quebec. :) That could be nice. Or Baldur's Gate. |
| MarkusTay6309-02-07, 08:52 PM | I guess Greenland should get Ten Towns, then. |
| Wellin_Adipocere09-06-07, 01:17 AM | Not that the spine of the world sucks or anything but the monsters are a little harsh and the population is pretty low. I guess its my fault for living near the Canadian rockies. I do enjoy my quiet time nonetheless. |
