Dark Wizard 01-18-06, 12:29 AM	I have two players, one is a hexblade and one is a ranger (both low level). Both of them have pretty generic backgrounds. They're good aligned with neutral tendencies (or neutral with good tendencies). I've been teaching them the system through some short tutorial encounters. Now we're ready for an actual game and they've expressed interest in the Forgotten Realms, but I'm at a loss for where to start them off at. I need to get some brainstorming done. I would appreciate any suggestions of a starting place, either something you've played or DMed before or just a place you think is interesting. (As you see, that's my problem, every place in Faerun is interesting to me.)
Imruphel 01-18-06, 11:13 AM	Try the Great Dale in the Unapproachable East. The main city, Uthmere, has been detailed over the past few months on this website by Ed Greenwood. Lots of good info there and saves you having to flesh out the main city yourself. Unapproachable East is a great supplement, IMO. The ranger could find himself on the side of the druids of the Forest of Lethyr. The hexblade could be a renegade either from Narfell or from the Red Wizards with either Nar barbarians or Red Wizards in pursuit of him (I like the idea of the hexblades being an ancient Narfelli warrior tradition that still exists in Narfell, Thay and the Bloodstone Lands). There's only one novel that's set in the Great Dale (by Bruce Cordell- Lady of Poison, I think but am not sure) so there's a little bit of info you can read to get a feel for the area without having any of your own ideas ruined by "inconsiderate" authors.
Alediran 01-18-06, 04:04 PM	Silver Marches is another favorite one, you have many dwarf kingdoms, an orc king with a giant army, a forest full of elves, Silverymoon wich is considered the jewel of the north.

lone_ranger_84 01-26-06, 02:10 PM	I agree with Alediran i have many books by R.A. Salvatore and he focuses on that region and it would be good region with silvery moon. Another one that would be good is Ice Wind Dale.
Ocrus of Wessek 01-26-06, 08:14 PM	If you're the kind of DM who likes freedom to work and create his own content for a realm, but have a nice detailed history and civilizations already there, hence the campaign setting, I would recommend Amn. Or Tethyr. Neither one of those have an overabundance of content, but they're still there if you need them and most of that can be found in the FRCS. OR if you're adventurous, you might consider going with Unther. For the same reasons listed above. The best part about these realms however is that neither a ranger or a hexblade would be a ridiculous concept. Unther might be a bit more difficult, but the ranger could be from the chondalwood. the Hexblade could basically be from wherever in any of those kingdoms. Tethyr is mostly forest, and Amn while not big on forest still has forests. Those are my own thoughts... like i said both classes can reasonably be from those kingdoms, provided of course neither of them is a dwarf, or elf (if you use unther)
