Well I've been looking around though I havn't been able to find out much. If anyone can point me in the direction it would be appreciated. I would like to find out the basic information about this game. Like how do you start? Is it interactive with other..people?

Thanks in advance.

Dungeons and Dragons(D&D) is a role playing game(RPG). An RPG is NOT a computer game. It is played with dice and paper, and in the imaginations of the players. It is usually played with anywhere from 4-6 players. One of the players is the Dungeon Master(DM). The rest of the players create imaginary characters called Player Characters(PCs) The DM is in control of all the aspects of the game except the PCs actions.

You're probably wondering how the game works...the mechanics. The DM creates encounters for the characters using imaginary monsters. The monsters have predetermined statistics. The PCs must roll dice to beat the monsters stats. If they do they hit them. Then they roll dice to determine damage to the monster. If the damage is substancial(exceeds the predetermined hit points(HP)) the monster is defeated. It's fun, believe me.

There are three "Core Rulebooks" that the DM must have to play D&D. They are: The Players Handbook, The Dungeon Masters Guide, and The Monster Manual. All of the rules for playing are in those 3 books. The first book to buy if you don't buy all of them(they're really expensive) is the Players Handbook. That is the book that gives the rules for creating characters.

Forgotten Realms is a world created for the DM to let the PCs have adventures in. The DM can read the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting(FRCS) and get a general overview of the world. From there the DM can buy any number of other books detailing the world(there are a lot of Forgotten Realms books). The DM can take information from any book or even make stuff up to give the players a game that is as fun as possible.

I hope this is a good enough description. It's hard to explain. The best thing that you could do is find a group of people who already play and join them. The alternative would be to read the books and learn for yourself. The first way is so much easier than the second, believe me.
