| Jinsei10-19-06, 03:33 PM | If you were in the mood to purchase a fantasy novel, what kind would you prefer? Would you prefer your run of the mill high fantasy novel set in the Forgotten Realms or another WoTC setting, or would you prefer it to have it's own unique setting? Should it be melding multiple genres like science fiction, horror, romance and fantasy, stick with one, or take all of those and attempt to create an entirely new one? Please, tell me your thoughts and ideas. What kind of original work do you want to read? (other than good ofcourse :P ):D  |
| Fabius Maximus10-19-06, 06:30 PM | I want interesting and believable characters, a captivating and logical story. That's enough. |
| Lord Karsus10-19-06, 08:10 PM | -And, it should have something to do with the Realms- especially if this thread is going to be in the FR General forum. |

| Stormbrand10-23-06, 04:59 PM | I mildly prefer established settings, on the principle that the novels can interact with each other. Unique settings are fine, so long as more is made out of them. FR already has detail done, so is relatively easy. To my style of writing at least, romance and horror are tools rather than genres. Being able to identify with the characters - such as predicting how they are going to react when they find out about X - is good, as is understanding motivations. |
