Hi, I'm a DM who's recently considered starting a new game in the Forgotten Realms. I've started reading some novels in the setting (Azure Bonds, and the first War of the Spider Queen book), and I'm really liking the setting. I've never played in a published campaign setting before (they've all been homebrew up til now), and this one seems very alive and active.

What I'm interested in are resources that might describe a little more of the specifics of the realms, something as current as possible. I've breezed through the 3rd edition FRCS, and there's a small sidebar saying every 5 months of real-world time is about 2 months of FR time... so according to a rough calculation, it's late '73 in FR right about now?

Are there any good web resources with "modern" specifics of official FR? I've read some posts of people mentioning famous dragons by name, but I haven't heard of them before. Is there a list of famous dragons that some might call "official?" A resource that lists the current rulers of several important cities or nations? Current plots or schemes of oganizations that have yet to be resolved?

The concept of having an entire world already defined seems to be a very big weight off my shoulders. I know some of my potential players know the realms very well, through many dozens of novels, and getting some more "official" setting info would make me feel a little more comfortable.

Thanks for anything you can offer, even a link or reference to another thread I could search for.

Yes it's 1373, however they are behind on what was written in the FRCS time advancement. You could wait a week or two or three and grab the new Players Guide which is supposed to update the sourcebooks to 1373. :)

If you click on the FR logo banner at the top of the screen, you will go to the FR home page. They have web articles all the time. In fact, one series is converting old 2E Dragon Magazine articles that describe famous Dragons of the Sword Coast to 3E. There are a ton of other old and new web articles to read through. A lot of good stuff there.
