| SilasleCake05-07-05, 08:09 AM | In my campaign I am thinking of making an adventure where the party tracks down and destroys an evil cult. I was looking around and I thought that maybe the Lord of Darkness book would be useful. For those of you who own it, do you think it is what I am looking for? |
| Dargoth05-07-05, 09:56 AM | Pick a cult any cult LOD has lots of stuff on Evil organisations The following groups have mini modules in LOD that may be of interest to you Dark Moon monks (followers of Shar) Church of Bane Church of Cyric Cult of the Dragon |
| Jackhein05-07-05, 11:12 AM | In LoD, you could use House Karanok, the magic user killers. My favorite in that book though is the Night Masks. You can find a bunch more cults in The Book of Vile Darkness. There is a bunch in there that are truly evil and deal with demon and devil worshippers. |

Lords of Darkness is a marvelous book! You absolutely want to pick this book up! It can help your campaign in so many ways, in addition to helping you pick an evil cult. Champions of Ruin is also a good book for that. Although I would say that Lords of Darkness probably details quite a bit more evil organizations than does Champions of Ruin. |

| SilasleCake05-07-05, 12:52 PM | Well, I'm quite new to forgotten realms, but from what you have said, it sounds like it would be a good thing for me to get. The idea that I had for the cult was these dudes who follow the god of death (what is he called in FR?). I will introduce them in another adventure in which they explore a kobold mine, and then find these long forgotten caves in which some members of this cult were hiding and digging out onyx, to create an undead army (onyx is a material component for the animate dead spell). THanks for all your feedback. Much appreciated. |

THanks for all your feedback. Much appreciated. The current god of Death is Lawful Neutral and unlike his predecessors Mykrul and Cyric, hes not fond of undead. However while most people believe Mykrul is dead, he actually isnt hes living inside an Artifact called the Crown of Horns (See Magic of Faerun). Now if you have Lost Empires of Faerun, theres a feat in there called Servant of the Fallen that allows a Cleric to recieve spells from his god even though the deity is "dead" Theres also a Prestiage class in Faithes and Pantheons called the Horned Harbringer which is focused on Mykrul |

Since I'm out of college for the summer, it has given me a chance to really read over this book. It does an excellent job explaining what the evil organizations are in Faerun and gives some detail of each. A great resource. |
| ruleslawyer06-07-05, 01:32 AM | Don't forget 2E's Cloak & Dagger. It was the book that parts of Lords of Darkness updated.Yes, but LoD focuses more on the "cult-like" bad boys of the Realms: the Churches of Bane, Cyric, and Shar, the People of the Black Blood, the Cult of the Dragon, etc. It's an excellent book (IMHO, one of the two or three best FR 3e books out there). I'd get it. |

| ruleslawyer06-07-05, 07:47 PM | Point was that if he's looking for a "cult," C&D might not be quite as useful, as it concentrates on assassins, merchants, thieves, spies, and slavers. That's all. |
| Dark_beebles07-06-05, 04:03 AM | Monks of the longing death worship no god. Just death its self, They are closer to shar then anything. because she is about hopelessness, and loss and they represent that pain in death is the ultimate end to everything in the world. Depends on what type of flavor you want man. If you want them to stop domination or mass destruction..shades or cult of the dragon would be your best bet..if your looking for a war Cyric, bane, shar churchs could be the way to go...plus the assassin/rogue guilds are nice as well. I think LoD is one of the best FR books. |
| Shemeska the Marauder07-06-05, 09:31 PM | LoD is one of my favorite 3e FR books. It was very cool, and I can't recommend it enough. |
