Lots Extremely Fun Campaigns [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-28-07, 01:38 PM Well with all this spoiler talk about what's to come of the forgotten realms in the future. Spellplague, rise of new Netheril, joining of worlds, Luskan Destroyed, poor Thay, Mulhorand, Sembia not doing well, Aboleths. Then what about other places like Cormyr or the return of elf Nations. This looks like some fun gaming material here, campaigns galore. I love it.

They have given us ten years of interesting gaming possibilites and I congratulate them. We do not need anything beyond this point in order to contine the setting the way we like it.

It was very nice of them to make it so we no longer need to make any purchases in order to play.

It's not often a company thinks of customers first like that - usually they are just all about making money off of us.

Obviously, they no longer want ours. :rolleyes:

09-28-07, 05:39 PM Yeah, it's not like the 3e FRCS had any plot hooks or interesting ideas in it, what with the Mulhurandi invasion of Unther (along with Gilgeam getting slapped down), a possible invasion of Thay, a Thayan civil war, Untherite rebellion, half a dozen minor factions in the area wanting a piece, Szass Tam, Larloch, the Simbul's deal with Thay, etc... Nothing there at all to base a campaign on, and that's just like 4 pages in the FRCS. There are more than enough plot hooks in any one CHAPTER of any FR sourcebook to satisfy a dozen campaigns.

So, in short, thank you for destroying all of the political intrigue, religios strife, and racial tensions of the Realms to make way for a crappy Eberron knock-off.

I agree, the money I might have spent on FR supplements can now be spent on other things I'll enjoy.

10-02-07, 03:03 PM I think I'm in the minority here when I say: I don't have a problem with them advancing the storyline in a dramatic fashion. I'll most likely buy the books and incorporate them into my campaign.

Seriously, I think this 10 year gap would be a fun era to do a campaign in. Kind of like Star Wars between Revenge of the Sith and a New Hope. Hecks a'popping, and you're in the middle of it!

The only problem is, TSR/WOTC have done this to campaign settings before, and they didn't sell.

Which meant that there weren't a lot of extremely fun campaigns set there. There may have been a few, but by and large, people lost interest in the setting.

And then TSR/WOTC stopped publishing new material based in those settings.

I went through it with GH, so it's nothing new.

I did learn something from the last time, however...

When you make the switch, switch companies too. ;)

And yes, the next ten years do sound like a lot of fun, right up until 1385. They have been gracious enough to provide us with everything we need to game in the Realms for years to come.

For being so kind and finally finishing off a series of sourcebooks we have all been so willing to buy up until now, I will spend further money on the new core rulebooks

For giving us the old Forgotten Realms, I owe them that much.

So yeah, there will be plenty of Extremely fun campaigns for most of us - that isn't going to stop no matter what.
