Quick question. Are lythari a whole subrace of elves, or a template that can be added to any type of elf? I used to think it was a subrace, but ever since I got Races Of Faerun, whenever it came out, it seemed to me that it was a template...So which is it? Or is it basically a mater of opinion/whatever your DM decides?

Well it should be a subrace of elves, but since Lyncathropy is a template, that is why it is a template. In the old material they are a subrace, but again 3e made Lycanthrophy a template, so I would go with both? :)

I prefer them to be a subrace, but both Races of Faerūn and Monsters of Faerūn list them as lycanthropes. Monsters of Faerūn specifies that they can only pass on their lycanthropy to willing elves, and only thru a special ritual.

Like I say, I liked them better as a subrace -- especially since it's not like normal lycanthropy.
