| Selgaunt04-01-04, 03:48 PM | I'm looking to buy one of these books and I'd like to get some feedback. Which of these two books do you recommend. Magic of Faerun or Races of Faerun??? ThaNKS for your help!!! |
| Reles Villian04-01-04, 03:57 PM | I recommend the Magic of Faerun because of its wealth of knowledge. |
| Cunning Linguist04-01-04, 04:06 PM | I recommend Races of Faerun because of its wealth of knowledge. |
| Tempus66504-01-04, 04:21 PM | If you want richly detailed characters and you“re in it for the roleplaying, pick Races of Faerūn. If you want more options for the spellcasters in your game, or if magic is very dominant in your campaign, pick Magic of Faerūn. All in all I“d say Races benefits the most characters. |
| Mystery Man04-01-04, 04:27 PM | DM - MoF Player - RoF |
| Reefy04-01-04, 07:26 PM | Races of Faerūn - I think it's a more interesting read and I've got more use out of it. |
| Fieldketchun04-02-04, 01:52 AM | If you have one of the Wizards stores that is still open you could get both for the price of one. But, if you can only get one, the Races book has more useful info for a DM. |
| Lashan04-02-04, 10:50 AM | I would go with Races of Faerun, personally. |
| MakesMeSick04-02-04, 02:23 PM | I agree that Races of Faerūn has more crunch to it, would go for that one. Art aside, it's content is much more interesting and it provides interesting elements that add to roleplay. Magic of Faerūn, IMHO, is a bunch of spells (which most popular are updated in Player's Guide to Faerūn) and a couple of magic items. The question is: Do you need more spells? (or PrC, or Feats... because that's what you'll get from it). Just my 2 cp. |
| Selgaunt04-02-04, 03:27 PM | Thanks everyone, Looks like I'll be buying Races of Faerun!!! |
| Monsoon2804-02-04, 07:25 PM | Good choice! I love Magic of Faerūn but alot of it was updated in Player's Guide to Faerūn. As well in the PGtF a number of regional feats are referred to in Races. I think Magic still has alot to offer but now I'd say it is less of a priority. |
| The_Declaration04-03-04, 03:27 PM | I would say Races of Faerūn. For the same reasons as above: Magic of Faerūn is a great book, but what is it exactly? Prestige Classes: updated in Player's Guide, Spells and items: 40% updated in Player's Guide, which is more than enough to start. Then you have all the fluff about the origin of magic, the places of Power etc. which is really interesting, that's cool, but it's not even 20% of the supplement. Races of Faerūn is to me the first FR book to buy: it's very nice and interesting to read, you learn a lot about the people of the Realms, where they live, their relationships and stuff. Very nice. Of course if you wanna do a campaign with lots of PCs who are wizards and sorcerers, Magic of Faerūn might be more important. |
| shakeupsnow0204-05-04, 08:55 AM | Oh man, Races of Faerun, all the way. I bought it a little while ago, and outside of the core books, FRCS, and Unearthed Arcana, it's my favorite book yet! |
| Arduin04-05-04, 11:47 AM | They are of course both great books, but I would go with RoF as well. The information on the races (albeit not what some had hoped for, as it isn't so big) and the stats are just musts. Magic of Faerūn is great for more spells, information on different magic related stuff in Faerūn and... they are just both great. However RoF is a hardcover and they cost about the same :D |
