| Charles Phipps01-22-08, 02:13 AM | I doubt the designers will read this but I thought it'd be fun, nevertheless. This is a thread to make a plea for your favorite God and making it over into 4E. I'll start A plea for Velsharoon This is a petition and a vigil in one. Yes, I think we all know there's almost no chance for Velsharoon to be one of the deities that makes it into 4E. Almost certainly he's going to be degenerating into the status of "Saints" and forgotten amongst the ranks of otherwise unnamed Gods. Hell, when last we saw him, he was faced down against Azuth and the fact remains that he's an Intermediate Deity while Velsharoon is a Demigod. To be honest, things don't look good for the Little Lichgod that could. But I say thee nay in my best Thor-voice. 1. The Undead Need a God: Jergal is a non-evil god, Orcus is a Demon Lord rather than a God, The Revenancer of the Drow is also caput. Pretty much, the Undead have no patron and that requires an evil god to patronize them. 2. Velsharoon could be our Vecna Analogue: You need a little guy. Shar, Bane, and Talos are the Huge Mother :censored: deities that dominate everything. You need someone that's beneath them and plotting the overthrow of the cosmos. 3. Velsharoon could gain a lot of street cred from Mystra's death: I'd honestly believe Cyric could kill Mystra less if Shar had helped him than more if Velsharoon had given him the keys to her backdoor. Hell, it's even implied in canon he was allied with Shar. 4. There's no Cults: It's a tragedy really but every Evil God is so powerful that I don't think there's really much room for the crazy guys in Goat Masks holding torch lit ceremonies after dark. Velsharoon fills a nice missing niche. 5. There's something very powerful about the Wizard who Becomes a God Story/Evil Mages need a god: Savas is dead and he's an interesting enemy to Azuth. For those who don't want to necessarilly pray to the "End of All Things", he's a nice god for Evil Mages of unlimited ambition. Just my take on the man. |
| Storm_Silverhand01-22-08, 02:29 AM | Heya, I doubt the designers will read this but I thought it'd be fun, nevertheless. This is a thread to make a plea for your favorite God and making it over into 4E. I'm sure you knew this would happen the moment you opened the thread... A plea for Mystra Mystra is currently dead. Yes, they killed her... But I want her back. I want to wake up and find out that her death was just a crazy dream. There is no other god so iconic of the Forgotten Realms setting. Without Mystra and the Weave, the Realms may as well be Generic Fantasy Setting #32432875. 1. Mystra is central to the setting. Mystra, being the embodiment of the Weave, was supposed to be integral to all life on Toril. Her essence permeated all of reality, and without her it would supposedly collapse. Unfortunately for us, the Designers have selective memories... or at least they're selective in what canon they use and discard at the drop of a hat. 2. We don't need a boring uninterested neutrally aligned Magic deity: Midnight's alignment, and her relative youth were what really set her apart from the likes of Boccob and Wee Jas. Her interest in the world, and her hand in history were two of the things that made her fascinating. Sure, people complained about her, but they completely ignored the fact that her Chosen couldn't be everywhere at once, and also that she vowed never to cut a person from the weave unless the entire balance was threatened. (Sounds to me like she's finally been proven right - Cyric should have remained cut off from the Weave.) 3. Mystra leaves a huge vaccuum: And given the designers favour for Shar and Cyric right now, I am really worried by what might rise up in her place. 4. There are still stories to tell about Mystra: Mystra was killed to fulfill a part of Cyric's storyline, to enable them to move on and tell other stories about Cyric. But what about those stories about Mystra that were in progress, or still waiting to be told? Why should we lose out on those stories? 5. Mystra was an iconic female character of the Realms: Who do we have now? Sune? Chauntea? Selune?* Will one of these three rise up to replace her? For a company dead set on attracting female players, they're sure going about it the wrong way. Mystra was badass, powerful, and seriously cool. * Please note, I do like all three goddesses listed there - perhaps I like Sune and Selune more than Chauntea (I don't connect well to the Mother, I'm afraid to say... not one single maternal bone in my body), but none of them are Mystra. |
| msatran01-22-08, 02:51 AM | Here's my plea for the Red Knight. 1) Torm's girlfriend should not be easy to swat out of existence. 2) There's a big difference between a god of war and a god of strategy and planning. Strategy and planning can be applied to more than battle. 3) Tactics needs a god. I realize that D+D is taking real tactics OUT of the game, but nonetheless, having a god that actually rewards their followers for being clever in battle would be very nice indeed. 4) Hot chicks in full plate armor. That pretty much speaks for itself. 5) No other appropriate Athena style analogue. Warrior women deserve a god. Female spellcasters have a god (Selune), Female soldiers and warriors should too. Plus, Tempus in a battle bikini is silly. 6) Followers angry with Siamorphe's behavior will leave. 7) The Red Knight is one of the two most popular lesser deities ever. More people worship The Red Knight in games I've seen than EVER worshipped Tempus. Over 20 years of gameplay, in my game, the score is Red Knight 3/Tempus 2. 8) The Red Knight is attractive to smart players. Smart players want to worship this deity, and this is a larger part of your core Forgotten Realms audience. 9) Heroic Backstory on the Red Knight makes women want to play the game. This is a core concept of 4th edition, getting more women to play the game. 10) Hot Chicks in Full Plate Armor. (Just in case you folks didn't hear it the first time.) The Plea for Eilistraee 1) Eilistraee is THE Cheesecake goddess. Trying to have the Realms without her sucks for so many fans of the Realms that people are thinking of walking away. 2) Hot Drow Chicks wearing....uhmm...nothing. That's right. Nothing. :) 3) Sworddancing is the greatest idea since sliced bread. 4) The other "Most Popular Intermediate Deity" also deserves her shot. More players worship Eilistraee, on average, than any other "Redeemed Drow" characters in the D+D game. Drizzt actually represents the aberration, as far as player characters are concerned. 5) Temples are located in the wilderness and other dangerous locations. Want to visit one? Fight your way there! Want to donate to your priesthood? Fight your way there! Now THAT's points of light! 6) There is NO GODDESS OF REDEMPTION AT ALL! REDEMPTION NEEDS A PORTFOLIO. Otherwise, people think that all they can do is slay the bad guys. I realize that fighting and killing things is apparently the 4th edition motto, but for mature players, this is really rude. A lot of people don't get into D+D until college, or even later, and this is just cutting those potential customers off at the knees. Plus, if you treat twelve year olds like they're eight, they won't buy your game either. 7) Cheesecake sells copies. The Plea for Chauntea 1) What the heck are people going to eat if the Goddess of Farmers goes away? Chauntean paladins protect farmers. Chauntean Clerics show people how to farm. Chaunteans are everywhere, in every community, and they represent 80 percent of the population, because 80 percent of the population of peasants are pretty much yeoman farmers. 2) Chauntea is actually an extremely cool god to worship. Why don't most people get raised from the dead? Because Chauntea believes that when something gets cut down, it stays cut. Something new will grow or be grown in it's place. 3) Realistically, Chauntea should be the most powerful deity in the Realms. The number of worshippers this deity has should outweigh the number of worshippers of every other deity put together. 4) Chauntea is the only goddess that keeps Lathander from being a total moron! Please, please do not get rid of this deity. Otherwise, the Realms will only have one god in 4th edition, and it will be Lathander! 5) Farmers are numerous, everywhere, and in every community. The idea of every shrine to Chauntea in the world suddenly shutting down is without merit as well as without logic. 6) While Chauntea isn't cheesecakey, it reinforces the belief that the goddess of Agriculture is powerful because that's what most people do, and while it might be easy to slaughter large numbers of her worshippers, some of her worshippers are vengeful community protectors, like the PC's. 7) Someone has to take responsibility for stopping Orc Farmer #1 from killing Cormyrean Farmer #1. The Plea for Solonor Thelandira 1) This is the most popular elven deity in most games. Elf + Archer=Win. 2) Archery has no portfolio. After thirty years, maybe it's time for one. 3) Elven Rangers should not be worshipping Corellon Larethian, the god of magic. They should be worshipping a god who is more like them. 4) Solonor Thelandira has a good philosophy that forces people to think twice before just loosing arrows into combat. "Once an arrow is loosed, it cannot be restrung." 5) Archers of other races can worship him too, because guess what? There are literally NO other archery gods belonging to ANY other race. People who use bows deserve a deity. 6) Corellon is now essentially an Eladrin god in 4th. Elves need a god too. I know it's only six reasons, but they're all really compelling. |
| gomeztoo01-22-08, 03:36 AM | The Plea for Chauntea You left out: 8) No Chauntea = No Moonshaes 9) Scythes are bad-ass. |
| sfdragon01-22-08, 04:18 AM | all the above Sehanine moonbow she and selune are not the same, lithari are not were wolves the elves were civilized long before the humans were barbarians she is the elven goddess of the dead |
| Charles Phipps01-22-08, 04:38 AM | Well Selune created Chauntaea. She's older than the Elves. :-) |
| Reneshat01-22-08, 07:20 AM | A plea for the Red Knight, wait, no, she's a demi-power now (but a confirmed aspect of the setting). Okay a plea for Ilmater... what? He's fine? How about Torm? A promotion. Hmm, I guess I don't have as much to worry about. :P |
| Khaelieth01-22-08, 07:52 AM | A plea for Bhaal - The Assassins need a god! Cyric and Mask just don't cut it. - He's been so active and awesome! Moonshae's, The Bridge... You name it! - He manifested as a murderous entity during ToT. That's BADASS. Kill 'em all. - His symbol's awesone. - His home's called "Throne of Blood." 1337ness. - He made that many Bhaalspawn, shouldn't be any trouble having them take over! - It's stated in 2nd ed that "If Bhaal was to return, it would be from Boarskyr Bridge." 2nd ed gave him a rope! - Murderous cults full of absolutely insane psychopathic assassins. It's like Christmas come early for the DM! No grey zones, no redemption, just good ol' just murder for the PC's to do, without having to find the kobold/orc/goblin lair! |
| Rauric01-22-08, 08:01 AM | A plea for the Red Knight, wait, no, she's a demi-power now (but a confirmed aspect of the setting). Okay a plea for Ilmater... what? He's fine? How about Torm? A promotion. Hmm, I guess I don't have as much to worry about. :P Yep. Plus if they take away or don't do a write up of a god I like or use I will just use them anyway I guess. This only solves the situation if your a gamer though, fans of the Novels will have a bit tougher time with everything. |
| Lord Karsus01-22-08, 08:10 AM | Well Selune created Chauntaea. She's older than the Elves. :-) -That's assuming that the "genesis of Realmspace" is: A) True, as it is a myth after all. B) Happened after Sehanine, Corellon and Gruumsh created the first Elves and Orcs, outside of Realmspace. |
| Zanan01-22-08, 08:33 AM | My plea would incoporate the re-naming or low-profiling of "real world" deities. Deities like Silvanus, Oghma, Bhaal, Mielikki and ... dare I say it, Loviatar. Dunno what will happen to the Mulhorandi Pantheon, though I would not particularly like a parting with Isis for good. As for goddess of magic, I just came across one Hecate in FC II. How she ended up in Minauros I'll never know. |
| sfdragon01-22-08, 12:37 PM | I disagree with the above comment concerning mielikki silvanus, not so much always seamed like a stick in the mud besides drizzt is still around, so i guess there is not problem there |
| Lord Karsus01-22-08, 12:58 PM | silvanus, not so much always seamed like a stick in the mud -As he is a tree, he is, literally, a stick in the mud. :rimshot: |
| msatran01-22-08, 05:27 PM | Well, you know what they say. Speak softly, and be a big...wait...no...that's not what they say. |
| Lord Karsus01-22-08, 05:29 PM | Well, you know what they say. Speak softly, and be a big...wait...no...that's not what they say. -Wrong industry. |
| sfdragon01-23-08, 04:32 AM | anyway silvanus is the patron god of treants, i doubt he is going anywhere maybe we should plea that they remove the gods from the frcs all together and make them available as a free download |
