Anyone have a recommendation of the best source of information on Manshoon? I had retired from gaming around 9 years ago, and last time I left off Manshoon he was only one... seems alot has happened in that time. anyway I've been back into gaming the last few years but I've come across alot of detailed informaiton on what happened to Manshoon. What sources have the best information on the whole cloning thing and current Manshoonian events? Thanks for the info guys :).

Most of it was written up in Cloak and Dagger, one of the last 2e books that was printed. Most of it is fluff also and so about 80% to 90% is still useable under the new rules.

However, Lords of Darkness (for 3e) also updated a lot of the info in Cloak and Dagger.

The Lords of Darkness can help you discover the new Manshoon. There is a decent write up about him in there, also in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. As for his clones, one of them is with the Night Masks now, read that entry well. There is another one in Under Mountian, apperantly with Halaster, but it is not 100%

Also check 2nd edition "Ruins of Zhentil Keep". It details his entire story up and until the destruction of the Keep. Very interesting chap "gifted by gods" Manshoon is :)

Now that Halaster has regained his Sanity (Elminster in Hell), and has become a Chosen of Mystra (again, Elminster in Hell), he's not spending so much time running the Underhalls anymore.

The general thought is that Manshoon has taken over this role while Halaster goes about the Realms doing whatever.

Actually at this years Gencon, Ed said that Halaster is NOT a Chosen of Mystra.

Ed needs to do a better job writing his Novels. No offense to the creator of the Forgotten Realms, but Halaster being a chosen seemed pretty clear to me in the novel.

Maybe so? Shrug, maybe he wants to leave it as a surprise to see what Halaster really is..

I found the quote also,

"A question was raised about Halaster, and how he's now become lucid. El told that he'd encountered the "Mad Mage" of undermountain several times, and stressed that while Mystra healed him of his insanity, he still was not a Chosen of hers."

I didn't see any clear evidence in El in Hell that Halaster is now a Chosen. Mystra met with Vangy and he's not a Chosen.

As far as Manshoon goes, I was hoping that Cloak and Dagger would be available to download for free soon. I'm not spending $20+ on something from 2E.

I always thought Novels weren't canon :)

Has this changed??

I don't remember Mystra meeting with Vangy.

I do remember something like "Go to Hell, get Elminster and I will increase your power tenfold." Sounds kinda like "Wanna be chosen?" to me.

Or "Do this, and I will reward you with powerful spells\items\make you sane" kinda thing.

As far as I'm concerned, anything penned by Greenwood is canon.

Now that I think about it, I think it was the Srinshee who approached Vangy directly, but I do think he was given some kind of sign or omen that indicated Mystra was somehow "contacting" him.

Since when? All FR novels, except for the Double Diamond Triangle, have always been canon sources. Heck the first official printed realms item, except those articles in dragon, was a novel. :)
