| rizzard04-10-04, 07:12 PM | how rad is this adventure series. just finnished downloading all the three reals pdf's off the wizard site. and currently writing my own adventure for my group when i found this brilliant trilogy(home brew adventure instantly thrown on the back burner). i haven't played it yet but i can tell it will rock. this will be a great to run in a campaign like mine . my players are quite new to D&D we have just played two dungeon based adventures and i'm beginning to think from their actions that they have mastered the concepts of the game(though they are pretty good )i'm ready to break there own conceptions as i introduce them to the surface world away from the total hacknslash lets get all the gold out of this pit kind of game. i'm a total act it out kind of DM in the first place not embarassed to make all the necessary voices noises and accents for the delight of my grateful crew, they seem to be interested in doing it themselves but the whole structure of the 2 modules inhibited it. so just shouting out this adventure has a great and almost equal balance of hack/RP/character development if your looking to add more dimension into your current game think of this here is the link it's 3 parts. Marco volo, "Departure" "journey" and "Arrival" the older realms stuff is great. i think running second ed stuff with the fun combat oriented 3e stuff will produce great experience any way enough ranting here it the link http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/downloads anyone else who has played ,please throw out your review |

I think that is the "problem" with these adventures. No one really knows who Marco Volo is nor was there any interest when they came out or after. You can still get print copies pretty cheap, sometimes still in gaming stores. |

He's Masker Wands nephew. He was impersonating Volo to get Volo in trouble. It's all explained in the modules..... |

| rizzard04-12-04, 11:24 PM | maybe it's just me but there is great potential in this series. i can't wait to run them. after reading the trilogy i must say(again) it's a great balance of overland/roleplay/dungeon/character development. but as always to each his(or hers)own. and yeah nobody knows who marco volo(though the "volo" does give you a good tip off) is or was but. but the fact that they decided to publish a trilogy of modules for an adventure that the ceo's could have easily said"lets not take the chance, compress it into one module" definately says something for the confidence of tsr in their author and peers i've been playing this game since 87' and seeing how it is now i think many people are turned off to the old stuff(the art, 2e) i think it's rad and growing up with 2e i have even more faith in those mods. then the new ones actually. warning tangent: i'm sorry but i really wish all the people who ask q's on how to run super saiyans and vegetas in there game would give it up and go play that yu-gioh bull(sorry that was pretty #@@$%ish of me but i needed a little venting) |

I'd suggest checking out the free downloads at the link, posted above. Or checking out any of the twenty or thirty other free downloads on the same site... |
| cigaran04-13-04, 01:09 AM | Hehe. Man, let me tell you this can be THE best set of adventures under the proper DM. We had a game that went on for the better part of 5 years and towards the end, the DM decided that it was time to run these. I'll never forget the Saturdays spent laughing our asses off while going though these! I would like to offer one little bit of advice... Keeping Volo alive proved to be a proble with our group. When he got us into trouble, someone would off him and we'd have the party cleric resurrect him later on. Yeah, it's a pretty low and dirty trick but after 6 weeks of the little bugger, you'll want to kill him too! All in all, I'd have to say that these where some of the best writen 2nd edition adventures and they do seem to take alot of stuff into account in regards to what the PC's will do. Having played them and prepaired them for a campain, I'm equally amazed as a player and a DM. Hope your group enjoys them! |

Some of us just don't go for the intangible elctronic items. |
| Masakado04-14-04, 09:48 AM | I ran these modules a few years ago & we had a great time. The light-hearted spirit in the work was a refreshing break from the gothic, dark adventures of it's time. (or the gothic, dark adventures of this time, for that matter...) I'm a big fan of the ribald classics, as well as the early film adaptation of the Three Musketeers (w/ Michael York), so I found the premise, setting & feel of the modules to be quite enjoyable. Not every campaign has to center around some bleak war against the Drow. ;) These three modules, along with Haunted Halls of Eveningstar, were probably the best of the designer written adventures that came out around that time, IMHO. |
