Lately i've read some novels(i'm not going in details since i think it;s forbidden?)and i noticed some significant changes in the Realms. So i thought that maybe it's the time for some updates concerning the regions where changes occured plus the revision of some important characters or the introduction of some new ones that have palyed some(or in cases an important) part on the changes that occured.

That was supposed to be the PGtF. :P

Not having read any of the books, I would tend to disagree with this. My campaign world has only changed as much as it has to to support the modules I have run. My assumption going forward is that if they publish a new module in six months, it's based timeline-wise off of the sourcebooks I bought a year or two ago. If they expected me to buy a new FRCS because they might publish a supplement in the future that depends on changes in the history that occurred in fiction novels since the FRCS was written, I think it'd be time to switch to Eberron. I understand the need to publish the PGTF to update the system from 3.0 to 3.5, but unless there's a change in the rules (like they ever get around to publishing 4.0), the FRCS I have on my shelf is the one I'm going to use.

If 4E comes in 2008, that'll be a seven-year gap from the current FRCS, one more year than there was between the first two setting boxed sets.

The 4E rumors are really flying since that ENworld post. I can't imagine any major realms changes even if 4E does come out

I haven't heard any rumours, it's just clear (to anyone with any knowledge at all of WotC's business plan, or RPG publishing in general) that it's coming -- 2008 is my guess for when.

Major changes just because of the new edition? God I hope not, and only if (a) there are major changes to the assumed world of D&D and (b) these are, stupidly, transferred to the Realms.

Major changes just because of the new edition?

I seem to recall the mass death of assassins because of the change from 1e to 2e.

And there was soon an assassin kit to pick up that spot.

Other core classes were "lost" in the transition without there being any major changes... I think that it was more a side-effect of Bhaal's death (and his subsuming all of his assassin worshippers) than an in-game reasoning for something that didn't need a real in-game reasoning.

Who knows how true this is:

D&D 4th Edition News

Yes, you saw that right. I've just added a news category for D&D 4th Edition News. Why? Because today I saw my first bona fide 4E rumour, and it came, aptly enough, from Eric Noah:

On a more serious note ... it is ironic that even yesterday I got some major scoops about the future of D&D. It is sounding like some of our most paranoid fears are in fact in the works.

-4E already in the works? Check.
-Even more miniatures-centric? Check.
-Much smaller bundles of game info, packaged and sold separately? Check.
-A plan to possibly sell off RPGs entirely? Check. (Apparently only miniatures and Magic are making any money for WotC).

Unfortunately I can't go into how I got the info or who gave it to me. And I don't think even WotC knows when they're going to announce anything. I got the impression that timing such an announcement with GenCon was no longer seen as optimal or necessary. But please take all as unsubstantiated speculation ... as usual!

Really, who knows what wacky stuff will be done with the Dungeons & Dragons 'brand' when the bean-counters are let loose? For the Realms, either something like the status quo will continue, or the sourcebooks (almost certainly not the novel line) will be licensed to a smaller company who can in some ways do them more justice, or it'll be twisted and splayed at the whim of some business plan -- let's cross our fingers.

those 4e things sound like alarmist talk to me.

seriously it sounds pretty much like a list of "things Brian would not want to see"

Well i can't say im shocked, the way DnD has been getting simpler and simpler, it really wouldn't come as any great surprise if they faded it out all together.

I'll just cross my fingers though that your "source" was wrong :P

well this wouldn't be the first time I've encountered a doom sayer fulla hot air who has claimed they had "inside knowledge in the industry" regarding their own prophecy of doom.

the upcoming Saga edition of the SWRPG suggests that WOTC is moving AWAY from hard core minis only support and is seeing the value of RPGs so..

... this makes absolutely no sense. If they didn't change anything, why would people buy the new books? The whole reason they make changes is so that people will buy new books. Once they've published all the books they have planned for 3.5, they'll bring out 4.0, and it'll be a whole new FRCS, PGtF, Monsters of Faerun, Races of Faerun, regional sourcebooks... Unfortunately, given the prices of their books these days, I don't think my 4.0 campaigns will be using that material. I can justify paying $100 for a new set of core rulebooks, but an additional $300-400 for a campaign setting?

to get back on topic about a update for FRCS, I personally would like to see an update and it woudn't have to included: feats, skills and so on but just lore. because thinks do change.
But I just love lore and dont ask for much more
