Hey all.
I am about to play a Bedine sorcerer (as per the Bedine Sorcerer PrC, found here), and I need a Bedine\Midani name.

However, there is nothing in the FRCS or Races of Faerun, and I can't seem to find anything on the net.

Does anyone have a copy of the Harper book trilogy with the bedine, and could he please give me some bedine male names?

Thanks,

Savras

Not sure if the Bedine of Anauroch have different names (looks like it) than the midani-speaking Zakharans, but for the latter you can simply use arabic names.

Gray seems to know his source material, but really, shouldn't the Bedine have, like, Netherese names?!?!?

Nope. According to Races of Faerun, the Bedine are nomads that migrated from Zakhara after the fall of Netheril via portal. They speak Midani but have adopted the thorass alphabet and some of the Netherese gods, although they have changed up the names of those gods quite a bit.

They did interbreed with a few of the Nethrese survivors but they maintain a lot of their Zakharan culture.

Absoloutly true- they are Zakharan.
They did breed with a few surviving Netherese, lost their alphabet, and adopted the Thorass one, as he says.

The believe in Elah (which the RoF of FRCS, can't remember now, claims to be Selune, while in the Harper Trilogy it is said she is Eldath), in Kozah (Talos), N'sar (Cyric or Kelemvor) and A'tar (a sun goddess, which is NOT Lathender and I don't give a damn about what the FRCS says! In the desert, sunrise doesn't mean hope, it means despair; it doesn't mean rejuvination, but death).

Gray- thanks for the list- but as Arilious said, shouldn't they have Arab-like name?

Well the list of names Gray gave is straight from the old Anauroch book so I'd guess that Bedine names while being similar to Arabic names have evolved after the bedine got seperated from their old homeland

Thanks a lot!

By the way, "Daud" is the Arab pronouciation of "David", and "Yusuf" is "Joseph".

"Bhadla" is probably a twist on "Abdalla", and other names ending with "la"- which comes from the word "Allah" (Abdalla- worshipper of G-d, just like the Hebrew name Ovadyah).

Amun is an egyptian god.

"Nur", which means "fire" in the Aramic tongue, is a females name (the queen of Jordan is Nur).

"Sarsor"- means Pimp in Hebrew.
Just a few FYIs.
