Mixed Misfits [Archive] - Wizards Community

I am pretty new to the whole gaming experience and was just wondering about creating a character who breaks the norm of races to jobs. (ie: like a couple of gnome bouncers for a tavern)

I like the idea of tiny thugs, c'mon who doesn't?

My DM considers it a bad choice but he's the kind i wouldn't serve anyways.

I basically just want to hear from all of you good tales of strange people you've played or met in your travels and of course maybe incorporate a misfit similiar to them into the game.

09-06-07, 02:08 AM I had, back in 2nd edition, a gnomish shortsword master. Single classed fighter, fought with one shortsword.

09-06-07, 02:27 AM The first character I ever role-played was a Gnomish Necromancer who ended up leading a liberation movement... really, though the character was just an evil little terrorist who targeted tall people for execution and slavery. Everyone involved played a gnome, halfling or dwarf. The character eventually became rather powerful, went insane, and began believing herself to be a living goddess made flesh - a goddess of freedom, shadows and death.

It wasn't set in FR though. However, it was my first role-played character ever. It wasn't all that great, but ever since that character Gnomes have always held a small place in my heart. Especially evil ones.

"Up with the small, down with the tall!"
"I'm so sick and tired of everyone looking down on me!"
"It's time to cut them down to our size!"
"What grows up... eventually dies!"
"Off with their legs!"

:P Ahh... so much fun and amusement.

09-06-07, 03:51 AM Technically the game already assumes that most adventurers are special exemplars of their race, that do not fit the norm.

I still have my gold dwarven transmuter (currently in 'stasis'). He's a very untypical dwarf: friendly, out-going, cuts his beard in the fashion found in Turmish, doesn't adorn himself with jewels. He even looks strange, being quite tall and thin, so many people take him for a small human... druid, since he dresses like one and has a druid's love for nature.
