| ethicalsean02-23-04, 05:25 PM | Alright, heres my story. I'm in a group who was playing in 1360 and attempting to prevent Bhaal's resurrection and ascendance to godhood... its a long story... but suffice it to say at the end our cleric of Kelemvor feeling that Bhaal was no threat to her god's portfolios (she listened to his honeyed words) and our other cleric of Helm being a complete *insert explitive here* (he gave up with the fight when he missed with his searing light spell) ended with my character (sorc/gwow) and the dwarven barbarian falling to part of Bhaal's avatar (rolled a 1 on my SR check that would have killed him!!!) Well anyway, heres what happened. The Cleric of Kelemvor returning our corpses to our families and returning to her temple gets a little dose of reality for her mess up. She ends up taking up Bhaal's offer to become his chosen and ends up swathing a path of destruction through the western heartlands. The Helmite becomes a lvl 9 commoner and fails miserably at agricultural endeavors... its a long story but he had also awakened the Terrasque (we finally decided to boot him... dnd is too hard for him) A rogue that had been with us, and had done nothing when we acted against Bhaal finds "good" and takes up a cause to clean house of the shadowlord in Thesk reforming the government etc... After all this, we moved forward twenty years, and I was asked to mess around with the thought of a timeline... Im hoping some of yall more Faerun savvy could help me think up some alternate possibilities, and tell me what you think of what I've put in... here goes... 1360: The Terrasque, a creature of unparalled destruction, awakens in the Spine of the World. 1361: Bhaal, the former god of murder ascends back to godhood. Cyric loses the portfollio of murder while his attention is diverted by the war against the Banites of Zhenthil Keep. 1363: The Terrasque, after whiping all species in the Spine of the World of the face of Faerun encounters Klauth, the most powerful red dragon on the face of Faerun. The battle is titanic, Klauth emerges the victor but dies soon after. Rahn Suri'in, becomes the Chosen of Bhaal and leads a bloody campaign across the Western Heartlands in the name of her newly reinstated dark god. 1364: The principality of Teflamm is rocked by strife as the Shadowmaster's, a thief's guild of great power, is overthrown by a rival group of rogues. The rogues, strangely enough, return Teflamm to popular controll and instate a loose democracy. 1366: Murderlord Suri'in conquers all territories of the Western Heartlands. Other nations cut her off there, threatening to ally and crush the insurgent under their combined might. Amn, Waterdeep, and the Sword Coast form a loose alliance to keep the newly termed "Blooded Lands" in check. 1372: Upon Bane's return, Bhaal instantly reforms the alliance with the reinstated god. Bane regains his portfolios of Hatred, Tyranny, Strife, Fear. Cyric has now lost three of his six remaining portfolio's and this reduces him to an intermediate diety. Mask takes his chance and takes back intrigue from Cyric. The Black Sun's brief-lived empire is crumbling. Bane’s Church, filled with the zeal of their returned God, set plans in motion to re-conquer holdings in the Dalelands. Covert attacks on Daggerdale begin. 1374: Through the culmination of political subterfuge in Scardale and Daggerdale by Banites, the Dalelands are met by massive invasion from the borders of the Moonsea. A campaign lasting three months of the summer ends in Banite banners flying across the Dales. Shadowdale is scorched to the earth in this process. The “Bard of Shadowdale,” Storm Silverhand, in a climatic battle with a powerful Dreadmaster is slain before the steps of Elminster’s home. Although Mystra attempts to intervene, Bane prevents her from doing so. Mirabeta Selkirk, following the “reclamation” of the Dalelands by the Banites, makes bids for power in Sembia. Anarauch encroachment on “healthy” lands stops. Shade meddling suspected. 1375: Following a coup of several noble houses under an uneasy alliance headed by Mirabeta Selkirk, Sembia falls under her control. Later during the year Mirabeta has Zhentarim troops march into Sembia to “assist” in quelling those un-loyal to the new order. Miklos Selkirk is exiled and his Silver Ravens become freedom fighters working out of the borders of Cormyr. Thay declares formal peace with Algarond. The Zhentarim blunders in the east when it attempts to reclaim its “occupation” army in Thesk. Zhentarim forces are routed and driven back towards the Moonsea. Khelbun “Blackstaff” Arsunan, and his splinter group the Moonstars, make an uneasy peace with the Harpers after the events of the following five years. Both groups are semi-organized into one another. 1376: The Shades ruthlessly sack Candlekeep in search for information on the Netherese scrolls. Elves returning to the Elven Court are horrified to find drow living in the forests. Small skirmishes begin between returning elves and the surface drow settlers. Due to the furthered success of the Enclave system (partly due to the ongoing conflicts in the west), moderates in the Red Wizard hierarchy petition for a larger devotion of Thay towards this policy. 1377: Cyric, attempting to reclaim some of its lost power, attempts to destroy the Cormyrian government through strife in avatar form. Myrkul thwarts Cyric by involving Bhaalites in the plan. Cyric loses an avatar and barely holds onto his intermediate status and loses the portfolio of Illusions to (need to look up who should have gotten this portfolio… perhaps Ohgma?). Further political infighting occurs in Cormyr from the strife brought between the Regents and Noble houses. Jezz the Lame forms an uneasy peace and loose alliance with returning elves in the Cormanthyr woods when Banite “purge” forces begin to invade the woods from their occupied positions in the Dalelands. 1378: Alustriel’s seven year term limit ends this year. King Harbromm succeeds Alustriel and begins a more militaristic buildup of the Marches. Political mistrusts of one another begin and the stability of the Silver Marches begins to be questioned. Khelbun “Blackstaff” Arsunan, in a bid to continue stabilization and further protect the Silver Marches (and effect the northern flank of Waterdeep) from the possible powder keg of Harbromm in power, makes secret dealings with Obould Many Arrows to divert his attacks towards Luskan for political and monetary assistance. Shade attacks begin on Thay and to a smaller extent the enclave system. Rumors surface that Szass Tam has attained one of the Netherese scrolls. 1379: Culminating in the events of the previous two years, a loose collection of Cormyrian nobles conspire to assassinate Alusair Obarskyr. Upon her death, the barely stable region breaks into Civil War. Caladnei takes up the crown and several Nobles form a loose alliance to eliminate loyal Cormyrian forces. Midsummer, Bhaalite forces from the west and Banite forces from the east converge from both sides of Cormyr. An uneasy alliance is formed between Miklos Selkirk and Caladnei and the invasions from east and west stalemate. Miklos and Caladnei become heros to the Cormyrian people. The region is currently a hotbed for faction infighting. 1380: Campaign Begins. Rumors report that Waterdeep has begun to send assistance to Amn to route out the Shadow Thieves strangling the government. Murderlord Suri'in, infuriated by the bottling up of the alliance to the west and the stagnation of the Cormyrian campaign to the east begins to consolidate forces for an unknown objective. Increased “Shade” activities in the regions of the “historic” fallings of the flying cities. |
| Ramius_Mordale02-24-04, 06:46 PM | *Scratches head* Ah well kind of bent a little on the evils side there. Just have one question though where and what is the status of some of the other factions in the world doing. And why haven't the Harper's been more active in stopping this extreme evil power juggernuat? Plus I don't think the elves and the drow would have ever signed a peace treaty. From what I can tell and read that the drow's hatred for elves runs so deep that they dug all the way to Evermeet to kill them. (Please correct me if my information is incorrect.) Additionally the Elves probably wouldn't have returned to Cormanthor Forest since the retreat wasn't that far ago. Remember elves live quite a long time, they don't move about to often as a huge racial movement. But it is very imaginative and well plotted for the most part on the timeline. Good enough discription that would happen in your version of events. Just remember it doesn't matter what we say cause technically its your world and if your world turns out that way thats cool. Heh... be interesting to see if the Harpers can turn the tide of evil with as few of allies as they have now. But I still wish you the best of luck with it. |
| Teluvor02-26-04, 05:36 AM | I agree with the evil part... Basically it's your world, and if your prefer your realms darker, it's up to you. Presenting the setting this way gives your PCs a chance to really shine as heroes, because the odds are getting more desperate every year... All goodly nations are severely crippled... The only thing I wonder is: what's keeping the Shades from completely taking over? It's not as if there is any real power holding them back... Also, better have a good reason why the rest of the chosen aren't popping up to help Storm in her combat... I doubt even the most powerful dreadmasters (like Fzoul himself) stand a hint of a chance against the combined might of Storm, Syluné, the Simbul, Arunsen, Alustriel and Elminster... Three of which actually LIVE in Shadowdale... :fight!: |
