I haven't seen it mentioned here yet, so I'd just like to let you guys know that Eric L. Boyd (and others) have put together this free downloadable PDF of lots and lots of converted realms monsters.

http://www.ericlboyd.com/dnd/monsters.html

You can find it there! I found out about it at ENWorld in this article:
Eric Boyd and another collaborator have released a large PDF (487 KB) of their fan conversions of many Forgotten Realms monsters.

I mentioned it yesterday, but it got kicked down the list to fast, and Eric also posted it in the monsters area. :)

its pretty good (i wish they had done it 3.5 however...) my only complaint is that it is longer then it needs to be... Eric Boyd and Thomas Costa are both veteran game designers and did not need to show thier work (all the stuff in red.)

<<< did not need to show thier work (all the stuff in red.) >>>

We considered this a project we did for ourselves, and then gave away, because it might be useful to others.

I find it's very useful in 3e to have the calculations spelled out if you want to put classes on top of a monster or apply a template. (You can do it incorrectly without reverse engineering a monster, but to do it correctly usually requires rebuilding the monster from scratch.)

Fortunately, the simplified rules for feats and skills in 3.5e make this far less necessary.

What makes me wonder is the copyright thing. These monsters are all Wizard trademark Forgotten Realm things, some have even been used in various other products already (though I don't know whether they are actually from this pdf or not), some stories are told in the MoF fashion (e.g. Death Knights of Al'hanar, with allegiance now pledged to Velsharoon and all that - straight out of F&A). How much of this is official and how much of it actually is "illegial" despite being made of one of the Wizard's finest designers?

Why is the crustacean template OGL?

But not all the creatures that correspond to normal, existing animals, as well as their dire and were versions? I don't think ostrichs and foxes are IP of WotC...

If they have d&d stats for them they are. :)

I'd like to point out that Tom Costa did a great deal of the work on this project and deserves many kudos for doing so.
