| BrokenRulz12-12-03, 03:00 PM | There was an earlier post done where the question was put forth as to what actors/actresses would play which FR personalities and people mostly tended to focus on the Avatar Series. I've decided to take the topic and move it on to different series'. All you authors who actually write on these characters are more than welcome to post on this one, cause I'd be curious as to whom you see playing those characters you breathe life into. But here's mine and I'm sure others will have some as well. I've attempted to divide them by Series again, but it didn't always work and I couldn't always remember every single person and still others have already been discussed on these boards. Remember, this is totally a WHAT IF? Elaith Craulnober: Raph Fiennes Arilyn Moonblade: Lara Flynn Boyle Danilo Thann: Heath Ledger Shandril Shessair: Jessica Biel Manshoon: Michael Wincott Vangerdahast: Robert DeNiro (he can put on weight if he has too) Azoun IV: Sean Connery Alusair the Steel Princess: Jamie Pressly Artemis Entreri: Hugh Jackman The Simbul: Kiersten Dunst All Drow: Had a really hard time placing drow, so people like Drizzt and Jarlaxle just have to remain in the imagination for the moment. Alias: Alyssa Milano Giogi Wyvernspur: Colin Hanks Volothamp Gedarm: Jack Black Finder Wyvernspur: Kevin Costner (don't like his acting, but he fits in my mind) Dragonbait: CGI baby! Liriel Baenre: Would have picked Aaliyah, but since she's dead: Rosario Dawson Berserker guy (name?) from Tangled Webs: Christian Bale There are so many more of course, but that's all I can think of right now. Feel free to add along! |
| BrokenRulz12-12-03, 03:20 PM | I just realized that if some of these names appear unfamiliar, check them out on IMDB.com and see if that helps ring a bell. |

| BrokenRulz12-12-03, 04:45 PM | Elaith, to me, comes across as a middle aged elf, though he doesn't show it. Fine, cut features with piercing looks. A low, yet powerful voice slightly accented. RF just fit the bill for me, though I'm sure others could give other more suited people a chance. Close your eyes and try to picture it, you might see it. |

LOL, pictured it and seen Ralph Fiennes as Elaith years before your post BrokenRulz. In fact one of my players brought it up, Ralph playing Elaith, to Elaine Cunningham during one of her chats. From what I saw and heard described, Elaine was not adverse to the choice of actor being mentioned and the discussion then took a fun turn when my player mentioned a certain "revealing" scene of Ralph in Red Dragon . :D Anyway...good eye and I was just curious as to why you had featured him as Elaith in your head. If nothing else it proves that someone out there sees Elaith as my group envisions him. PS: Give me Julianna Marguiles for Arilyn any day over Lara Flynn Boyle......you really envision Lara being able to portray a character who has to pick up a sword and swing it? |
| VedVedsica12-13-03, 01:58 AM | I would say Brigette Neilsen for Alias twenty years ago.So Alyssa Milano is ok by me:) But Jamie Pressley as Alusair is priceless...Hopefully she would be in armor that much..Sorry if I offend... |
| Yen-Lo-Wang12-13-03, 01:58 AM | Rena Sofer would be a good Arilyn...here's a pic for those that don't know herhttp://www.nbc.com/photos/Primetime/Coupling/1CPLax03.jpg |
| VedVedsica12-13-03, 02:00 AM | No arguement here!!! |
| Kantor Brightblade12-13-03, 02:05 AM | :headexplo:Lara Flynn Boyle....gods how I despise her. Julianna Marguiles would at the very least be a wiser choice. While on the subject, I do not see Jaime Pressly as a suitable choice for Alusair. Pressly seems too....well just not that great of an actress. Sure, she did fine in Poison Ivy, but at the same time Alyssa Milano played the role 10 fold better. :ayyyy!: If anyone I would choose, at least for the personalilty and demeanor of Alusair, I would say Keira Knightly of Pirates of the Caribbean fame. She has attitude, splendidly trained actress. On top of all that she's gorgeous. Not knocking Jaime Pressly as a person, I'm sure she's a fine gal. Just not a good actress IMO. Hugh Jackman as Artemis is not a bad choice, but I think after seeing the portrayal of Capn' Jack Sparrow in Pirates....Johnny Depp would surely get a nod for that role. What about Viggo Mortensen? What about Orlando Bloom? (Heath Ledger and Jessica Biel, please sit down):nonono: Moreso Viggo than anyone would have to be picked for a role in an FR movie. They both have proven their skill, if not by now then when? As an avid fan of FR I wouldn' t want someone to play a role that we as readers hold dear, by anyone that has nothing to their credit but an attractive exterior. If we are to enjoy the films(if they ever get made) I wouldn't want to be bothered by horrible acting and lack of depth. The D&D movie proves that you can't just throw in a bunch of actors and expect them to know how to pull it off. If LoTR shows us anything, it should be that the characters and the actors need to seem one in the same. But those are just my two coppers. And everyone is entitled to my opinion. Thank you   |
| Yen-Lo-Wang12-13-03, 02:10 AM | I think Keira Knightly would do well as Alusair. |
| mallmus12-13-03, 06:13 AM | I think the choice BrokenRulz made for Liriel Baenre was a great one, but in my opinion i would choose Jessica Alba http://iquebec.ifrance.com/ceula/alba.jpghttp://imagecache.allposters.com/images/84/039_47191.jpg I would agree that Christian Bale to play her companion Fyodor. http://www.realgoodmovies.com/stills/reign_of_fire_bale.jpg http://www.helenmirren.com/images/costars/christianbale.jpg |
| Jaxian Redleaf12-13-03, 10:07 AM | Antonio Banderas for Artemis!:D Think Zorro and you understand... |
| Cthulhu12-13-03, 01:25 PM | Jessica Alba's acting range if too limited for a complex character like Liriel. But she would sure fill out a drowess outfit well enough! |
| BrokenRulz12-13-03, 06:26 PM | I can see all the possibilities of everyone's opinion. Sirius...I think that's so cool that someone else could see that, very neat. I chose Lara Flynn Boyle because she just seems like a good half elf. Thin with nice features like and elf, yet still distincly human. I can seen Julianna Margolis though too. Jessica Alba as Liriel? Eh...maybe... |
| Finglas Leaflock12-13-03, 07:16 PM | I like the idea of Julianna Margulies as Arilyn Moonblade, although if she was unavailable, what do you think of Lauren Lee Smith (formerly of Mutant X)? Her "not kidding around anymore" expression in combat scenes seems to fit Arilyn's personality, no? |
| Sirius_Black12-13-03, 09:30 PM | Originally posted by Finglas Leaflock I like the idea of Julianna Margulies as Arilyn Moonblade, although if she was unavailable, what do you think of Lauren Lee Smith (formerly of Mutant X)? Her "not kidding around anymore" expression in combat scenes seems to fit Arilyn's personality, no? I'd have to see a photo of Ms. Smith...I've heard of the show, just never watched it or have any clue as to what she looks like. Yes, I could go search for some. But, that would really cut into my sitting around and doing nothing time. So, any links? |
| Sellsword12-15-03, 02:04 AM | Christian Bale, while not a bad actor in his own right, is just far too tall and lanky to Fyodor. As I recall, Fyodor was about 5'10" and burly. Bale is around 6'3" and lean. |

The mini-series itself may not have exactly been a mindblowing success, but... But it at least showed Julianna could pick up a sword and convince you that her character was capable of using it effectively. I'd have a hard time buying Lara Flynn Boyle doing that when the sword would weigh more than she does. |
| Darkmistress12-16-03, 01:49 AM | The funny thing is, Morgaine isn't even supposed to pick up a sword in the first place. If I remember my Mists facts right. Not relevant, of course. And in any case, Morgulies as Morgaine looks fairly close to my image of Arilyn -- the curly dark hair and all. |
| Finglas Leaflock12-16-03, 09:38 AM | Although I also agree with Julianna Margulies as Arilyn because of the curly hair, here's a link to an interview with Lauren Lee Smith: http://www.visimag.com/xpose/x64_feature.htm They're both good actors, IMO, so I think we'd be lucky to ever see either one in a Forgotten Realms movie or TV show. |

| gallowsman7312-16-03, 03:05 PM | Here's a couple of ideas, BrokenRulz, that sort of piggyback on yours: Khelbun the Blackstaff: Roger Moore Arilyn Moonblade : Shannyn Sossamon Did I mention Jack Black as Mirt? I think he has the chops for it- anyone that has ever seen his WONDERBOY video should agree with me. As for Shannon Sossamon, I think she has that ethereal, elfin quality down almost as well as Liv Tyler... As for Sir Roger Moore, I can't think of anyone better suited to play Khelben. Besides, Moore is overdue for a groundbreaking fantasy role! |
| gallowsman7312-16-03, 03:05 PM | oops! dupe post! |
| BrokenRulz12-16-03, 03:26 PM | I don't know about Roger Moore, that's another maybe with me. I didn't know who Shannon was until I looked her up and then I recognized her and she seems a bit young for the role to me at the moment. As far as Jack Black for Mirt? Excellent... Here's another that came to me recently that could destroy any respect I may ever get on these boards, but I can only call them like I dream them. Erevis Cale: Rupert Everett |
| Aran12-16-03, 09:38 PM | Little off the topic but Christain Bale is going to be the next Batman...as for Orlando Bloom and Viggo Mortenson, Do you guys really think they would want to be in another Fantasy Movie....I think they would not want to becuase they might get stuck playing that kind of role...I would love to see Orlando in another Fantasy moive though...One last thing, Depp as enteri....freaking great choice, he would steal the movie! |
| Dungeon_Master12-16-03, 09:51 PM | Yay, someone started another Forgotten Realms movie thread! :D Remember the girl who played Willow in Buffy the Vampire Slayer? I think she'd make a good Imoen. (From Baldur's Gate? Remember?) Johnny Depp as Drizzit. :D Ian Makellan as Eliminister (thats the guy who played Gandalf). OR Jack Nicholson as Elimister. Don't ask. Just don't. Tom Cruise as Enteri. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I watched Mission Impossible earlier. Adam Sandler as...... I don't know, but it seems to me he'd do good as a halfling or gnome. And.... Me as anything. I'd do it for FREE just to act in a fantasy movie. :) (Don't call me an ego maniac. Who on these boards wouldn't do anything to play in a FR movie?) |
| Kuje3112-16-03, 09:59 PM | Originally posted by Dungeon_Master Yay, someone started another Forgotten Realms movie thread! :D Remember the girl who played Willow in Buffy the Vampire Slayer? | SornDuskryn12-16-03, 10:00 PM | I could definately see Sir Ian McKellan as Eliminster, or even Halaster. Christopher Lee would make an excellent baddie as well, perhaps even Halaster, A zulkir of Thay, or even just an evil mage. I think Ray Park would make an excellent Drizzt if they bothered with him. As for Entreri, I think Depp would be better suited for him. Though I'm all about the unknowns, as I think they'd do a better job than any well known actors... |
| Dungeon_Master12-16-03, 10:41 PM | Originally posted by Kuje31 Allison Hannigan...... MMMmmmMmm, Willow and Michelle from the American Pie trilogy. :) Aye, Kuje.... Once again, I'm going to begin the cruasade for a Baldur's Gate II movie! (On another thread, that is. ;) ) Vin Diesel. Hey, he played D&D as a kid (said so on Conan!). |

(Not that that'd make her bad for the role. ;) ) |
| Aumer of Waterdeep12-16-03, 11:04 PM | What about Christopher Lambert as Lord Mourngrym(sp?) and Adrian Paul as Fzoul? |
| Sirius_Black12-17-03, 12:56 AM | Originally posted by Dungeon_Master Tom Cruise as Enteri. I don't know why. Maybe it's because I watched Mission Impossible earlier. Artemis is only 5' tall? It's been awhile since I read a novel with the character in it, but if that's the case, Mr. Cruise would definitely be the man to play him. :D |
| Sirius_Black12-17-03, 12:59 AM | Originally posted by Dungeon_Master Wasn't she the Pink Ranger in the original Power Rangers? (Not that that'd make her bad for the role. ;) ) Jessica Alba? No. Amy Lynn Johnson or Amy Lee Johnson was the original Pink Ranger. She was on Felicity . Jessica hails from Dark Angel and of course Flipper fame. Hmm, works well in water...didn't Liriel do some nude swimming? Great, PG-13 or R rating already. |
| Darkmistress12-17-03, 03:15 AM | Originally posted by Aran I would love to see Orlando in another Fantasy moive though... Am I the only one who thinks Bloom is absolutely bland? Sure, he may be pleasant on the eye; he's certainly got a lot of fangirls for both PotC and LOTR movies, but from what I can see, he has all the emotional depth (in his roles) as a very tiny puddle. |

I'd love to answer your question. But, I have yet to properly see an Orlando Bloom performance. Each time I'm watching a movie in the theater and he appears, a chrorus of cheers, giggles, and teenaged words of worship cascade about the theater. Seriously, I think he's done fine in the three films I've seen him in. Granted, he has yet to take a lead role that might prove or refute any belief that he's a fine actor. Perhaps Troy or the new Ridley Scott film about the Crusades will give us a chance to view him better. |
| gallowsman7312-17-03, 11:12 AM | Darkmistress, I challenge you to watch BLACK HAWK DOWN and then tell me Orlando Bloom is "bland". That has to be one of the most gut-wrenchingly emotional moments in movie history...anyone who has seen it can back me up... Speaking of movies, what are you all doing on this board? Doesn't LotR: RotK come out today? Some fanatics swamped the local theater at midnight last night...not I:( , I have a six year old and an 8 year old- have to wait until tonite  Ah well...joys of parenting and all that rot... Back on topic, GERARD BUTLER as Entreri. Anyone that has seen TOMB RAIDER : CRADLE of LIFE should remember him. The brogue just seals the deal! |
| BrokenRulz12-17-03, 02:53 PM | I was just thinking that a younger Lou Diamond Philips could have played Drizzt...maybe he still could? Sorry, I just can't see a white dude playing a black character. I think some could get offended by that. You'd at least need a darker skinned person to do it I think. |

| gallowsman7312-17-03, 04:57 PM | CGI for Dragonbait... You know, I remember somewhere on these boards there was talk of RAS scripting a FR television episode...what happened with that? And thanks, Dungeon Master, for the inspiration...DBZ style fireballs! Too funny! |

Dear Cyric, where were you two years ago when I used to get clobbered on other messageboards for thinking Black Hawk Down was one of the best films that year? You are right, Mr. Bloom was good in that brief role. The Phantom of the Opera as Entreri? Interesting..... |
| Sirius_Black12-17-03, 10:15 PM | Originally posted by BrokenRulz I was just thinking that a younger Lou Diamond Philips could have played Drizzt...maybe he still could? Interesting, in describing an Vhaeraun drow NPC to one of my players, I commented, "Think Lou Diamond Philips. That's what he looks like a bit." They should hire us as casting agents. :D |
| BrokenRulz12-18-03, 09:06 AM | I concur Sirius, we seem to have this figured out. |
| Critical Hit12-18-03, 11:13 PM | Despite the popularity of both LotR movies and the BG games we still havn't seen an FR movie. I guess FR is still under the shadow of that D&D movie from a few years back or it might draw a comparison to LotR (I give 5/5 stars for RotK). As for TV, an FR series on the Scifi channel Friday night would be the best bet (they canceled Tremors). If placed in syndication it would die in some 2:00 A.M. time slot. Oh, and Black Hawk Down is a great movie. How many times do you get to see Legolas, the Incredible Hulk, and Obi-wan Kenobi fighting along side each other. |
| Sirius_Black12-18-03, 11:47 PM | Originally posted by Critical Hit Oh, and Black Hawk Down is a great movie. How many times do you get to see Legolas, the Incredible Hulk, and Obi-wan Kenobi fighting along side each other. Along with Lucius Malfoy as well. |
| Dungeon_Master12-19-03, 09:40 AM | Malfoy? I don't remember that. What character was he? I tend to agree with Critical Hit. After the first D&D movie (are you people SURE that wasn't supposed to be a parody?), it's understandable that people would be..... apprehensive. Weird thought: If we did BG, let's cast Marilyn Manson as Irenicus. That way we can kill him in the end, and with the pale white face, he looks the part in some freakishly weird way. They canceled Tremors? |
| BrokenRulz12-19-03, 09:46 AM | If they did make a FR TV show I would hope that it would something where it was a different story each week. Kinda like an X-Files sort of deal where some shows tied together, but for the most part it was a different plot each time. Like this weeks episode involved a Harper outwitting some Zhentarim in Sembia and next week some adventureres go to Undermountain. |
| Sirius_Black12-19-03, 11:17 AM | Originally posted by Dungeon_Master Malfoy? I don't remember that. What character was he? Lucius Malfoy, the father of Draco Malfoy from the Harry Potter movies. The actor, Jason Isaacs could nail a gold elf down especially one from the Eldreth Veluuthra. |
| gallowsman7312-19-03, 11:44 AM | i'm sure there are all sorts of legal reasons why not...but someone, somewhere (RAS himself? the editors?) must have a copy of the script for the pilot episode of FR: the Series. I'd love to read it, and then make a cast list! |

I keep thinking he was either a pilot or one of the Delta Force snipers. (I'd slap myself if I didn't remember him from the Harry Potter books.) Another thought: Cast Rob Zombie as Halastar Blackcloak! Really! I'd post a picture of Rob on here for comparason if I had one. Just look at one of his live shows or something. With that hair, he looks EXACTLY like Halastar did in the FR manual! I'll try to get a pic. P.S.: Here is a great excuse to give the show a heavy metal soundtrack at points. :ayyyy!: Let's see..... Metallica, Rob Zombie, Rammstien, Cradle of Filth.... |
| Dungeon_Master12-19-03, 02:26 PM | Ok, a picture of Rob Zombie (not quite the one I was looking for, but oh well...) http://us.ent1.yimg.com/images.launch.yahoo.com/000/000/496/3496977.jpg I'll try getting a better picture if I can. |

Funny you should mention Rob Zombie as Halaster - when I threw my players in Undermountain, that's how I described Halaster!!!! |
| gallowsman7312-19-03, 02:57 PM | dupe post. |
| BrokenRulz12-19-03, 03:11 PM | was looking at the pictures above and I've decided I like Jessica Alba as Myrmeen Lhal better. Rob Zombie as Halaster = great idea. |
| Dungeon_Master12-19-03, 04:46 PM | Originally posted by BrokenRulz Rob Zombie as Halaster = great idea. Thanks. :D (My pic of him isn't showing up for some reason. Oh well.) If we did a FR TV show/movie, what would the title song be? That's another thing to take into consideration, besides casting. Music sets the pace, tone, and feel of things, be it a movie, video game, or D&D session. Rock on!!! :ayyyy!: |

Don't get me wrong, the last two were ok..... But they didn't live up to the books as well as I'd hoped. And, ROTK........ Great movie. What'd it tell me? The fantasy movie market is not dead. What else did it tell me? A good plotline with liberal amounts of combat helps alot. :D |
