I have been popping in now and then and have been seeing more, and more posts for additional detail. Now out of curiousity to people want to learn more about Faerun itself or more about Kara-Tur, Maztica and beyond...?

I can't speak for the people, but I personally want new, detailed Kara-Tur material.

Eh, I think I will always want to learn more about the core of Faerun.

But, I also like hearing about what is happening on the planes (mostly with fiends and dieties)

I'd rather the rest Faerun be detailed first, especially Lantan, before moving onto other continents.

Well, more Realms. How? Simple.
Make a Spelljammer book about Toril. I bet those folk know more about the surface than mere groundlings. :D

I prefer Faerun, definitely. Although I don't think I want anyplace to be completely detailed. Sometimes I like filling in the blanks myself.

They definitively need a new book for kara-tur, because it just east with faerun and I think it important for the Forgotten Realms. But a lot of thing in Faerun is not clear or need more story. Like about the planes or the city of Faerun need more map and description. And the Abyss, that look very cool there with all the layer.

Nah, no Spelljammer. :noway:

Spelljammer should be its own setting. Find other means of crossing over between worlds.

I prefer filling in the blanks for Faerun than I would for Kara-Tur.

I mean, how hard it is (for you European descendants) to visualize a Euro-centric Faerun?

That true. They have to include kata-tur in Faerun . That should bring more cultural diversity.

Toril look really to much like planet Earth. Faerun like europa , Kara-tur like Asia and maztica like America. They have to change history and not make Faerun take over Toril but to let cultural richness evolve by themself and not destroy there way of life by assimilate them to Faerun.

But I found Faerun a little small and I will welcome more thing about kara-tur.

Yes, Spelljammer.
Even if you don't cross worlds, Spelljammer gives you a whole different (and more complete) point of view on an entire planet.

-Well, sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but WotC has made it quite clear that publishing new Kara-Tur/Maztica/al-Qadim material is not in the forseeable future.

-There is the Kara-Tur Re-Dux Thread, however, which is fun.

I'm just curious, where did WotC make it clear that they weren't publishing new things for Kara-Tur/Maztica/Al-Qadim. I know that's not happening with 3.5 (though Grand History of the Realms should have some nice info in it :D). Was this a reference to 4E, and if so, where did you hear it?

I'm not denying what you said (as I honestly agree with your sentiments), I'm just curious where you heard it at.

I second the No Kara-tur; I'd rather they do a nice, fat sourcebook on Cormyr. It has changed a little bit since it was touched in 2e (you know, that whole "We blew up the northern part of the country, killed several major NPCs, including the king and his eldest daughter, and destroyed two cities" thing they did.)

One of the most recent replies made in this regard was by Rich Baker in December 2006 on his thread at Candlekeep:

It's an interesting idea. But, I hate to say it -- we have no plans to tackle Oriental Adventures, Arabian Adventures, or Kara-Tur any time in 2007, which is as far out as I can discuss specific product plans. (At this point I would consider it highly unlikely for 2008, too, but I can't speak with as much confidence there simply because it's longer out.)

Our business and management teams are very skeptical of product lines or one-offs that would appeal to only a subset of the audience. They'd much rather spend our time and energy creating sourcebooks with the broadest appeal possible. Kara-Tur in the context of FR is a subset of a subset -- something our business guys really don't want to spend much effort on.

Seeing as Rich is a fairly high up as far as game development goes, he knew about 4E at the time of that reply since WotC started work on it in 2005. He made the projection well into 2008, covering the vital release period of 4E. It seems the "No Non-Faerun" policy holds into 4E. There will be a FRCS in late 2008, it seems unlikely there will be any OA or Kara-Tur material until at least a bit after that. Especially since it's hinted that the 3e OA sold poorly, WotC probably isn't too keen on another one too soon, even if it has been something like seven years since the last one. It's been about 20 years since the Kara-Tur box and they haven't even deemed that viable with the 3e OA (Kara-Tur being something like 15 years old at the time of 3e OA), opting for the Rokugan setting.

I can't say I blame them for their business decision. It's hard to support something that fails to sell each time they release something for it while there are so many supplement and settings that do sell or could sell. Aside from the Realms, there is Eberron and Dragonlance. Above Kara-Tur and Zakhara on the list of settings to update there is Greyhawk, Dark Sun, Ravenloft, and Planescape. They're probably try to update Spelljammer or Mystara before they do Kara-Tur.

Kara-Tur makes a good showing on the 4E Other Settings thread, but many posters consistently 'vote' for other settings more. Amongst Kara-Tur's rival is actually Zakhara/Al-Qadim which several people keep pegging as the "most elegant setting." I haven't heard anyone boast of Kara-Tur in that way. So they're like two stepchildren poking each other in the eye trying to get some attention from uncle WotC (TSR was the daddy who passed away :weep: ).

Kara-Tur is the ugly child who has the potential to make cool friends with names like Anime, Wuxia, and Jidai-Geki. Zakhara while somewhat handsome is just outshone by all the other brother and sister settings. But at least they're not abused like Greyhawk.

Dragonlance is the well behaved, mild achiever who moved away with his blood relatives, but WotC is still legal guardian.
Dark Sun is the leather-clad heavy metal rocker with tattoos and piercings.
Ravenloft is the goth of the family, who they put up for adoption, for a time.
Spelljammer is the somewhat amusing Star Wars nerd.
Planescape is the crazy genius that no one gets.
Birthright is the poli-sci major who's doing ROTC at the same time, but washed out of both.
Mystara is an older spawn forgotten by time.
Eberron is the darling baby WotC had ... after a one-night stand while on a stint in a reality game show.

BTW, virtually no one asked for Maztica. Poor Maztica, that's what you get for invoking the ghost of Cortez... I mean Cordel. Montezuma's wrath upon you! Maztica is the kid they conveniently lost at the mall ... on purpose.

Remember kids, think before you go about the sweet agony of making campaign settings.

I really want to see Al-Qadim, Maztica and Kara-Tur in the 4th ed. FRealms.

I still read about those settings in my 2nd edition material.

Now I really want ot see them with 4th editio rules.

All those pre-4TH announcements made by designers/leaders are ultimately going to change if not for anything else just because of the fact that they really are very premature.

4TH is being released in next year's May and the FRCS in a whole year's time. Until that date, a huge enormous amount of things is due to be changed. It can't be any other way.

You want to see something pubblished?

You want to bring back in the new game an old favourite accessory of yours?

You want the FRealms expanded like they were in the 2nd edition days?

Just ask for it.

You people are the buyers. You pay with your money. The producers never underestimate the power of $$.

Bottomline, your preferences are #1 on Wotc's list and it could not be any other way. Wotc will plan to sell only if you plan to buy. Otherwise, it's shut down time for them - and any other company that does not read market figures and wishes.

And don't forget to post what you want to see in the 4th edition Realms here (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=905792). It's one of the few new boards that Wotc is really taking under consideration hot on the heels of the release of the new game.

I sort of prefer Faerun over the other places, with some preference towards the nice wee Dalelands, Cormanthor and the Moonshaes. But I would like a bit more material for Kara-Tur and Al-Qadim myself.

Focus on the core Realms, but give us a liberal sprinkling of the rest of the planet.

They should be giving us a detailed Core region every week in the new Insider, and someplace outside of Faerūn at least once a month. I'm not talking about entire kingdoms - I'm talking about 4-5 page articles on interesting locales. The Lake of Steam (Arnaden), The Shar, a particular city that never got much attention (like the independent city of Sultim). Or areas that seem to have 'vanished' with 3e, like Erlkazar and Shaareach.

Then once a month we should get a kingdom-sized article, either about a core realm not covered recently in other books, or a single kingdom on another continent. In this way, we can slowly be brought up-to-snuff on whats happening in the rest of the world. Since we aren't likey to see seperate setting books for those regions ever again, I think, perhaps, this would be the best approach.

Of course, we are not going to see what WE want, we are going to see what THEY want. Regurgitated drivel with crappy art seems to be the new 'business model', so I don't have high hopes. :(

I think they should include all toril in forgotten realms. Like they do for other region in faerun in supplement book. Or maybe include maztica, kata-tur and the other continent I don't know, in the same supplement book fo FR. That will surely help for the selling. Maybe they can change the name for "We know Faerun a lot but not other region on Toril" or something like that.

I would love either, but I would like to know more about the other Realms. When was the last time Zakhara (or Al-Qadim - wasn't that another setting, though) or Maztica got some attention?

Like they did in 3,5 with Eberron: all of its other continents got their separate sourcebooks.

Why not do the same with the Forgotten Realms' other continents?

A long time ago.

But now we 'll ask them back if demand is high.

And I 'd prefer them to be printed in sourcebooks and not online material that would make me stare at my video screen for hours of reading and thus making me feel dizzy.
