| Marsvolta03-16-05, 02:35 PM | What is the most unique party you have seen. (Races) |
| Kuje3103-16-05, 02:39 PM | What is the most unique party you have seen. (Races) I'd have to go with the merc company that has a lot of strange races in it. It's mentioned in the old lore, like the box sets and gold & glory. Centaurs, beholders, wemics, mind flayers, a human commander, etc. :) |
| Marsvolta03-16-05, 02:47 PM | Mine was, I was a pixie soc, a Retarted human bodyguard with ungodly str, a gobin Ranger, In old man who was a clr of AO who was really good with heal checks and had alot of potions. And my all time favorite Barb king that was transformed into a teddy bear. This was just one of my groups, lets just say that we were up late when we made these characters. |
| Preternatural03-16-05, 03:02 PM | Mine was, I was a pixie soc, a Retarted human bodyguard with ungodly str, a gobin Ranger, In old man who was a clr of AO who was really good with heal checks and had alot of potions. And my all time favorite Barb king that was transformed into a teddy bear. This was just one of my groups, lets just say that we were up late when we made these characters. Those are pretty weird. About the most exotic I've seen is an Avariel princess, myself and another player were her Moon Elf and Sun Elf bladesinger bodyguards. For one or two session we had someone playing a wemic with us. Another character was a shapeshifting of some sort for a time but changed to another character later when his abilities were abused. Had a good time until the roster had more holes than swiss cheese and the group was scattered by real life. In another game I was a toned down half-dwarf (Mul from Dark Sun). That homebrew world had a very Conan-ish/Berzerk feel to it. That was fun. |
| Marsvolta03-16-05, 03:09 PM | Lol, that sounds like it would've been fun. :) |
| Old Sparky03-16-05, 06:06 PM | Heheh... how about a party composed of: Human paladin (Tyr) Dwarf cleric (Clangeddin) Dwarf paladin/monk/kensai (Clangeddin) Pixie druid (Silvanus) Half-elf ranger/wizard/arcane archer (worships Lathander) Succubus sorcerer The succubus was redeemed before joining the party, mind you; and she was later transformed into a celestial deva in-training (using the monster class progression in Savage Species, trading her "demon levels" for "angel levels"). |
| Marsvolta03-16-05, 06:17 PM | Thats unique or werid either one that sounds like fun. Any others? |
| Zevox03-16-05, 08:09 PM | I'm currently playing a party which consists of: Half-Drow Ranger/Assassin (Banite, LE, Zhent) Human Werewolf Bard/Shadowdancer (Sharran, NE) Drow Priestess (Cleric) of Vhaerun (CE) Tiefling Necromancer/Red Wizard* (Velsharoonite, NE) * My DM ruled that it was okay for him to become a Red Wizard since his blood is 99% human and his outward signs of his heritage are far from obvious (being descended of a Pit Fiend, he has dark (almost black) eyes and a pair of almost-fang-like teeth). Okay, its not as unique as a party with a Paladin and a redeemed Succubus, but its at least somewhat wierd, right? ;) :) Zevox |
| Old Sparky03-16-05, 09:23 PM | Come on now, let's not forget the pixie druid! I mean, it seems almost as diametrically opposed to put a dwarf (let alone 2) into a group with a faerie as it is to put a paladin together with a succubus. And yet, they almost always all get along. |
| Gadodel03-16-05, 09:33 PM | I had a player that modeled his three characters after The Three Stooges: Moe: Dwarven Fighter/Rogue Larry: Halfling Fighter/Rogue Curly: Gnome Barbarian |
| Ziatyn Phoenixwolf03-16-05, 11:39 PM | This one group that I was in had a good mix of strange characters in it. A Half-Drow wizard/cleric of Mystra with his two skeleton body guards A Human rouge A Half Wood Elf (that later was turned in to a full Wood Elf) Ranger/Druid of Rillifane Rallathil, along with his zoo; hunting dog, pegasus, and hatchling Brass dragon A Shield Dwarf (out cast)fighter/outrider that rode a dire boar A Sun Elf fighter/wizard/bladesinger A Human palidin of Midnight with a griffen mount A Minotaur Fighter An Oger Fighter/barbarian Just for the clearification of it the Half-Drow and the palidin were at odds about how to pay homage to Mystra/Midnight. The 1/2Drow was more old school than the palidin noted by the names of the same deity. |
| Marsvolta03-17-05, 11:01 AM | Werid, I mean unique indeed. Anymore? :dancin: |
| Weiser_Cain03-17-05, 12:17 PM | Female Half-Giant Fighter Female Drow Fighter(the 'face' of the party) Female Orc rouge Half-Troll wizard Half-Orc Cleric/Blackguard(the other 'face; of the party) Though to be fair I'm only writing a story about these guys together though I do play as these characters(when I get the chance). |
| Brahzs M'ahnkei03-17-05, 12:27 PM | When Savage Species came out, we decided to play a monster party and so put together: 1. Astral Deva 2. Lillend 3. Mummy 4. Redeemed Kyton A Hound Archon, an Ogre Mage and a Genie made sporadic appearances as well as our group grew and shrank in size over time. We played a traveling troup of entertainers complete with an awakened dire elephant with monk levels that pulled our wagon. It was the most fun we ever had! ;) |
| Razz03-17-05, 12:29 PM | Can't beat this one, I'm sure:  ---A blind Human Samurai ---Mortif Warlock (mortifs are from a Dragon Magazine issue, forgot the issue number, but they're "deathtouched", basically humans with some form of undead as an ancestor, e.g. vampire, ghost or lich that casted a spell to obtain living qualities for awhile, etc.) ---Tiefling Hexblade ---Lightfoot Halfling Spellthief ---Air Genasi Warmage ---Maenad Psychic Rogue ---Shyft Soulknife The campaign just started, all level 1 (well, the human and halfling both acquired level 2 last session), and the players of the air genasi and maenad both had to quit. But the oddest mix of races and classes our game has ever had so far. |
| Marsvolta03-17-05, 05:07 PM | Werid group  |
| Mookie3703-18-05, 09:27 AM | The party I'm currently DMing: A human Samurai/Kensai (LN) from Kara Tur who has no clue what's going on and just got betrothed to a gold dragon, so to speak. A half Drow/half Moon Elf Bladesinger (NG), the result of her mother's failed attempt to assasinate her father, and her fathers failed reprisal. A Lesser Drow(PGtF) Ranger/Rouge/Barbarian/Tempest (read, whirly-gig of raging, sneak attackity death) (N) with spell fire, who's ot Mystra AND Sylvanus talking in her head, and is tasked with healing Wild Magic Zones in her area. Her area being the Dales. A human Ranger of Meilikie/Kensia(LG) who's of Chondathan decent, but lived in Kara Tur, wishes he was Aragorn, is attempting to unite the Dales, and is in love with the Drow. All this at 17 yrs old And of course, my NPC cleric of Illmater(LG) with a Str of 4. He suffers with every step he takes, cause he can barely support his own body weight. OK, not so neat/weird on the races front, but still pretty damn quirky, in my opinion at least. |
| Marsvolta03-18-05, 09:58 AM | Spellfire? Thats crazy. |
| Mookie3703-18-05, 10:14 AM | Yeah, but it explains why she has none of the normal Drow abilities. And it's gonna get her killed. If not by the Zehnts, or Red Wizards, or the Cult of Dragon, or the Cormanthor Drow, the by the fact that she's using it to repair wild magic zones in the Dale Lands and the surrounding area. That means there's one, big whopper of an area that will, in all likely-hood, kill the hell out of her. :D |
| ikki03-18-05, 10:19 AM | a few weird parties: 4 dwarven paladins I mean dwarf isnt the best option for paladin, but there they were. Not quite good enough at healing, and none had any ranged attacks.. just dwarven waraxe charge... and constantly short on healing potions, but atleast the dwarves knew how to split orcs ;) A one man party Consisting of a single monk a fiend possessing the monk (and providing teleports and such) -vrock/sorcerer 2 intelligent knuckledusters (they could enchant themselves) -both rogue/assassin Sort of fun, but could get overwhelmed easily... but did all the more sneaking and assassinating |
| Petrankov03-18-05, 11:32 AM | Psionic Lich (Was Human, now in the body of a Minotaur) - Psion Level 19 Mineral Elf (used Prestige Race from Dragon Magazine) - Ranger 4/Deepwood Sniper 9/Fighter 6 Wild Dwarf - Variant Druid from Unearthed Arcana 9/ Hammer of Moradin 5/Battlerager 1 Half Celestial Saurial (Finhead) - Fighter 3/Paladin 3/Dervish 9 Shield Dwarf - Fighter 14/ Dwarven Defender 6 Half Avarial Elf/Half Mountain Orc - Fighter 12/Orc Blademaster 5 (again from Dragon Magazine) Half Elf - Paladin Tyr 14/Divine (I forget at the moment) 5 [Holy Avenger sets him apart] Human Rogue - Rogue 16 - Spellfire Wielder Human - Wizard 3/Cleric Illmater 3/Mystic Theurge 10 |
| Plüschi03-18-05, 11:38 AM | Hello a Human Fighter a Human Rogue a Human Bard a Human Sorcerer and a Human Ranger an all-out human group! :D |
| Marsvolta03-18-05, 12:33 PM | Whats with all you Dm's letting people have spellfire? :noway: |
| Old Sparky03-18-05, 06:55 PM | What's with DMs not encouraging racial diversity in the group? An all-human party? |
| numitor03-18-05, 07:53 PM | Probaly having a dm who does not know how to say no. I was asked once for spellfire by a player who was a known min maxxer. I promptly told him if I rolled 5 1's on a d100 then he could have it. Obviosly it failed. Some dm's really cant say no to their players over fear of hurt feelings and the like. |
| paralyzed_penguin03-18-05, 08:06 PM | The current group I adventure w/ is the most diverse that I play in, it consists of: Male Moon Half-Elf: Bard 8/Half-Elf Paragon 2, seeking the true power of song (Dm is using a few bardic songs from different prestige classes as feats [experiment]), My character Female Air Genasi: Fighter 4/Monk 4/Tempest 2 Female Chondothan Human: Ranger 3/Cleric 7/Divine Champion of Mielikki 1 Female Chondothan Human: Bard 5/Song Dragon Disciple 5 (So she'll eventually be a half-dragon) Male Half-Giant: Fighter 4/Psychic Warrior 6 Female Mulan Human: Cleric of Kossuth 10 Not a really unusual mix, but alot of them are female, which is a lil' unusual. |
| Mookie3703-18-05, 08:50 PM | Actually, my PC didn't know she had it. She was sneaking up on a Zehnt Wizard, but He saw her, and chucked a death spell. She absorbed, not knowing what was happening. The Zehnt chocked it up to her being a drow, but she had never had it happen before, being a lesser drow with no SR. When she freaked in another battle, after her weapons were shattered, and blew a wave of the stuff at the enemy, it all started to come together. All my other PC's got special item tailored to them, really powerful, but I couldn't think of anything for her, so I gave her Spell Fire. Alison, the PC, would never have thought to ask for it. |
| shadow_walker2.003-18-05, 09:14 PM | ok hear we go I onced played in a group where the DM didn't want to read any thing about any of the settings so we just used every thing from what ever setting we where in the mood for needless to say the we finaly got the DM to read and pick a setting and things have ben much better but before that this was our group we had before we where put into a well defined world. a CG elven clric a NE half-elf/fiend ranger a NE human/half-fiend ninja a CN Drow/half-celestial ranger 2 CG kender rouge a half-elf/fiend rouge and an anti-social Drow fighter. try to top that messed up group. |
| Doctor_Jello03-19-05, 12:20 AM | all characters are gestalt. I only run evil campaigns, i can't stand good ones. the vast majority of them go up to level 80 with then thereafter divinity as divine rank 0 - divine rank 20. Lisha, 20 cleric / 20 wizard 5 paladin/5archmage a lawful good vashar cleric with the good and law domain possessed by an evil diety. She was confused because she saw good as evil, and evil as good. She was so wrong in her head it wasn't even funny. she was very innocent, and she took a vow of peace. She had a pet nightmare who was an obsessive drinker. she created a magical item called universal fire immunity pink ribbons. they were immune to fire. and they had the returning quality if they were ever taken off. so needless to say i felt sorry for it all the time. Next, was alexander (6 cleric/6 sorceror, he started as a female drow cleric of lolth, became discusted and died, a wizard turned her into vampire and started on the path of the 10mystic theurge/ 10 planeshifter TN(3.0) 10 souleater / 10 palemaster he started planar area swapping things. first what he did was he stole somethings from the palace area, he was confined within the castle. once inside, he swapped out the palace. then after that he just did what he did best, raided. eventually, the dieties sent her on trial and sentenced her to 3000 years confinement on carceri. she escaped utilizing the plane of dreams and used a soul exchange from necropolis 9th level spell, 5K exp loss and swapped eachother out. *created bad guy #1. the next 20 levels were 10 night cloak / defiant then came the enchanter known as brendle. He had a fascination with love, he was CE and felt that the world should love, because he felt he was the greatest thing since sliced bread and thought he was cupid. half the time what he did was make ugly women fall in love with men, and make the men fall in love with them. all the beautiful women in turn he compelled to fall in love with him. His cohort was a succubi. one of his followers tried to sleep with a woman, and he killed the follower, she said thank you, and he said "what a waste, kill her". his favorite spell at 17th level was mindrape. He tried to cast it on aphrodite, which she in return, cast a spell so that way he wouldn't think of any woman as attractive unless he returns those he cursed back to normal, without the use of magic, and friends. he currently hates dieties and aphrodite in general |
| Tyrant of the Moonsea03-19-05, 12:31 AM | One of my friend's game: NG, Svirfneblin ranger (my character) NG Lightfoot Halfing Rogue/Wizard/Arcane Trickster CG Human Werebear Fighter/Cleric of Selune CN Human Rogue/Invisible Blade CG Faerie Dragon Druid (NPC) We had a CN Drow Rogue but he was killed and replaced by the Halfling (less weird) |
| Doctor_Jello03-19-05, 12:46 AM | One of my friend's game: NG, Svirfneblin ranger (my character) NG Lightfoot Halfing Rogue/Wizard/Arcane Trickster CG Human Werebear Fighter/Cleric of Selune CN Human Rogue/Invisible Blade CG Faerie Dragon Druid (NPC) We had a CN Drow Rogue but he was killed and replaced by the Halfling (less weird) thats almost as bad as my psuedodragon cleric of helm. He hates oppression, just because he is small. |
| Tethlis03-22-05, 07:29 PM | I played a gnome sorcerer spellfire channeler. Didn't plan on being a spellfire user, but DM offered it to me after i was telling him about the shandril shessir books, hehe, gave him up though cause doing 16d6 damage at level 4 just and being able to "recharge" yourself just isn't fun :weep: |
| Razz03-23-05, 10:54 AM | Yeah my mortif warlock player I mentioned in an earlier post, he also has Spellfire, plans on taking Quicken Spell-Like Ability so he could blast spellfire and an eldritch blast at the same time when things begin to look bad. The feat isn't really such a big deal as some people make it out to be. It needs the DM's permission, and I honestly believe a DM who says no isn't a good enough DM to handle the pressure. Whatever the players get, you're supposed to overpower the monsters as well. If your players all have 50 Strength, well guess what? Now the monsters all have 150 Strength. Ability scores, spells, etc. don't really matter as long as you're willing to devise counter-measures. Besides, the player is stuck having to spend a standard action to absorb an incoming spell, which I am sure he's readying an action most of the time and waiting and hoping for a spellcaster to blast him and not anyone else or an area spell. That's a possible long wait and wasted actions on the player's part. Along with the fact you'd only be able to absorb one spell an encounter, since spellcasters will get wise with you're first absorption (unless they're incredibly stupid). |
| Marsvolta03-23-05, 12:37 PM | Why are you Dm's let people have spellfire? Are you guys crazy? |
| Zerohawk03-23-05, 07:30 PM | Hmm, I've seen some interesting parties before... I remember the one a DM friend of mine ran for his group that included more templates than you can shake a stick at, however the most unique I could think of would be: All Gnomes They really don't get enough of a spotlight. |
| Petrankov03-23-05, 10:48 PM | I don't know about other DM's, but I allowed my player to have it because he came with an average character into a powerful group and it balanced him out with the other players. Plus he didn't ask for it. I like to have the powers used in game that are interesting. Let them have some fun, obviously I agree its not for all campaigns, but my players are all near or at 20th and they combat 20+ all the time. It works out just fine. Creative DM's can award anything to a player and neutralize that power if necessary. Example- Spellfire isn't so great against 15 Fighters, think about it. If a character becomes abusive in my game I simply abuse them till they get in line. I would not give it to a player who would be abusive anyway. Things work out just fine that way. That player stopped playing recently so its not a big deal now. Though I won't be giving it out again. Marsvolta. :-) |
| Master Chuck03-24-05, 07:09 AM | The funniest group i dm now: a gnomish bard a gnomish druid a gnomish fighter a gnomish rogue a gnomish wizard a gnomish barbarian All very young gnomes, a real gang of teenagers from a little village. The first time out of it. They don't know "the real world" and behave so, who want to be famous and return as heroes to their village. |
| Marsvolta03-24-05, 12:10 PM | Well I never thought about it like that. 15 Ftrs would be crazy  |
| Meyverya04-02-05, 08:55 AM | Hmmm... Well. I currently have a pretty unusual party of humans as far as things going on with them. - Eidric, level five psychic warrior/level three necromancer. The necromancer levels were taken when one of my BBEGs, a quite twisted Red Wizard of Necromancy kept his essence in a book because he had divined his own death and willed that one of his followers ( yes, he came up with unique theories on necromancy and spells) give the book to the weakest willed in our party. This began a war within Eidrics soul for who would take full possession of his body. The necromancer converted some of his stats to suit his needs and played upon a small part of Eidric that was curious about necromancy and taught him as much as possible, committing many dark acts through this character, before Eidric triumphing and obliterating the BBEG completely. This changed the characters physical appearance as Eidric lost a lot of Con and the Red Wizard caused Eidric to lose weight ( as he was overweight) and take meticulous care of himself ( unlike the old Eidric). IT also changed his alignment to NE from N. - Tyrin, level three fighter/ level five rogue. A theif turned guard turned adventurer. Has a love for woodcarving and was haunted by the annhilation of his entire theives guild, which acted as his family. Vowing revenge, he discovered the murderer of his mentor and hunted for him until he encountered an old member of the guild turned Chosen of Cyric. Fun for the whole family. -Ganath/Ganathaast level 8 wizard. Former flunked Red Wizard who volunteered for an experiment to bring his Netherese blood and self to the forefront by taking one of his ancestors and plugging him in where the old Ganath was. So we have a former Netherese arcanist..... and some NPCs |
| samoosa69104-03-05, 03:16 PM | you think that's wierd????!?! here's oneo f the wierdest groups our games rank 3 ravenloft vampire cleric (yes, house rules and yes a vampire cleric) troll fighter human dualist lich wizard let's just say that was interesting on top of that we had: half fiend dwarven wizard/spellsword a demonic race (dwarven) that could turn himself into a large character an henerious (excuse the spelling of the devil) and a corrupted paladin that could change shape into a displacer beast with godly str let's just say THAT was an interesting party with ABSOLUTELY no party coherency. (I felt bad for my dm) |
