Music in the Realms [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-21-05, 08:37 PM I'm playing a Half-Drow Bard in the Silver Marches (yep, he's going to be popular), and I was wondering if there is much in the way of music in the Realms lore?

I know of 'Wind By The Fireside' from Volo's Guide To The North, which also appeared in Neverwinter Nights. Is there anything else?

12-21-05, 09:00 PM It's pretty scattered across various supplements. Both Elves of Evermeet and Cormanthyr: Empire of the Elves touches on Elven music here and there, as far as I know.

12-21-05, 09:03 PM Ed has discussed it over the past 2 years as well. Code of the Harpers has some music in it. Aurora's catalog has instruments and they are also in the FRCS.

Ed gave us the "Music in the Realms" article in DRAGON #124.

The new Waterdeeep sourcebook has lore about New Olamn (as does Elaine's New Olamn article in DRAGON #335). Elaine's novels -- Elfshadow and Elfsong -- are good resources regarding music and bards of the Realms generally.

Don't forget about the "evil" composer mentioned in Richard Lee Byers contribution to the Halls of Stormweather anthology -- 'Song of Chaos'. While it was his crafted music that originally led to all the reality-altering perceptions of the guests at the concert, the story also tells us a little about composing and music in general in the Realms.

01-02-06, 02:17 AM The Humility chapter in the Legacy of the Green Regent RPGA campaign mentions yet another piece of music from the Realms. Here's the relevent passage from the adventure's description.

... recognizes the tune as "Confluence Alight" the music to an epic favored by Llorkh patriots. That bit of propaganda is a sickening and unapologetic history of the Zhentarim's rule of Orlbar, and a virtual manifesto for their political intentions on th enetire Delimbiyr Crescent. The real tragedy is that it has been put to what most bards agree is a beautiful and expertly composed tune by what must be an enslaved or very misguided composer.

01-06-06, 04:43 AM This is an actual, helpful response, by the way. I vaguely remember a website...Ah, what was it? www.toril.com, or www.toril.org, maybe www.toril.info. One of those. Anyway, it is a search site that has a lot of things Forgotten Realms. Seach music there, and maybe you will find something useful.
