Hello fellow RPG enthuisiasts,

I'm currently working on web article (that I'd like to submit to WOTC FR R&D in the forseable future) on Myrkul which ties up the Crown of Horns plot-line that he's currently in. I decided to embark on this project due to feeling that Myrkul (as a character and god) has alot of potential to be an excellent Epic realms player (similar to Tam, although just abit stronger).

I'd like to hear peoples thoughts on the idea regardless of like or dislike of said character coming back from the dead (the storyline itself will have to remain hidden of course but I may offer snippets of information, and I think you'll like what I have in store :) ).

As once a true power of the realms Myrkul has endured even death... I agree and believe he should come back... While he might like to reclaim his throne in the Citadel of Bones... He would have to settle for building his power base on the material place again... He might likely get a following of necromancers who would kill for the lore he possesses :) Just remember there are never enough necromancers hehe

In the last days of 2E, Dungeon magazine ran a five module series of adventures in the Mere of Dead Men. The fifth module was written by Eric L Boyd (author/co-author of many of the GREAT FR products) and reveals that one of the main threads running through the series was the potential for Myrkul's return.

Adding my own ideas into the mix, I would like to see Myrkul trying to come back in an Epic campaign (well, Epic at the conclusion at least) where the power for his return is provided by tapping into the hunefer (Epic mummy, more or less) of the dead Mulhorandi power, Anubis. Of course, that's also because I want to have an excuse to use Unapproachable East....

Also, now that Set has replaced Sseth as the deity of the yuan-ti, and considering that current wearer of the Crown of Horns is, canonically at least, a yuan-ti, provides another link with the east.

Anyway, throw in canopic jars, Requiem for a god etc... and it could be a really interesting campaign.

By the lack of posts in this thread I'd have to assume that FR fans aren't interested in his or Bhaal's return.

Give people more time.....

I think the dead gods would be more interesting as mortals than as gods again.

They could be the champions of a new dietyless faction in the realms.

I'd be interested in his return. I've even plotted out possible courses a time or two... but I never really followed it up with anything.

Perhaps you should move this post to the Forgotten Realms dieties forum and you'd have better luck?

Yeah your right Duffman, prehaps that post was too hasty.

I dunno.

I like Kev as the god as the dead, as it is refreshing not to have an evil overlord for the Dead.

On the other hand, it would make sense that the being who was in charge of death would find a way to cheat it. We really don't need Veleshoon anyways.

I can definetly see the benifits in running or planning for something like this, but, I also like it when Gods stay dead.

Well Myrkul won't be back as a god, just an Epic Level Character.

However that doesn't mean he couldn't take Velsharoons portfolio's away from him later on in the future though :D .

my FR camopaign had a subplot aboput a mad (former) cleric of Myrkul seeking to resurect him to whether Myrkul wanted it or not, but the party put a quick stop to that... killed the cleric and destroyed one of Myrkul's last bastions of true power on faerun. durring that adventure they also released a red greatwyrm from the gem it was soul trapped in... but that is a different story :)

The Ring of Myrkul is one of my personal favorite Magic Rings. It is in the afore mentioned Issue of Dungeon #73. I love that little adventure.

Myrkul has been my favorite God ever since. Even then, the yuan-ti were apart of Myrkuls fate. A pureblood Yuan-ti Ftr 9 named Amalkyn the Black is a member of the Followers of the Scaly Way. He has a Ring of Myrkul. He uses it to keep the undead in the Mere of Dead Men at bay.

Mere of Dead Men... A former stronghold for the worship of Myrkul... A wonderful place to do a little resurection uninterupted...

Fun stuff.
