| Aulnil11-16-04, 05:57 PM | Possible Spoilers: In the War of the Spider Queen series, House Jaelre's priest of Vheraun has the core characters recover a book that gives info on how to manipulate the mythal of Myth Drannor. Can anybody fill in any blanks here or tell how or if they've used this in their campaigns? I was prompted to query this based on the recovery of Cormanthyr thread. Thanks. Aulnil |
| Imruphel11-17-04, 10:21 AM | I had the Jaelre drow corrupt the mythal with the power of the Shadow Weave such that it became a thing of darkness. IMC, Vhaeraun had allied with Shar so some of the Jaelre drow had access to the Shadow Weave. |
| Ramar Aulinvox11-17-04, 05:07 PM | From what I have read in the old books on Myth Drannor and mythals i would say that it is a spellbook that details the known powers of MD at the time of the laying, also the book could contain the instructions for using the powers and a few spells such as a spell nutralizing mythal effects, a spell to create a tethor from the mythal out to some other location, and instructions on either nineth level or epic level spells(rituals) that alter key components of the mythal. |
| KingDes11-18-04, 12:33 AM | I'm currently debating this issue on a little different spin in People and Places. The guy i'm talking w/ says its not possible for drow to manipulate a mythal. Which this really foreshadows it happening...doesnt it? |
| Aulnil11-18-04, 11:53 AM | The manipulation of the mythal is exactly what, I think, would cause a change in the surface elves' mentality. Above all else, they would not allow Drow to live in Myth Drannor in control of the Mythal. And that's exactly what House Jaelre wants to do, to offer protection from drow and surface people alike. However, even with the book I doubt they have the magical ability to pull it off, since reference points to their greatest strength lying with their priests of Vheraun. |

Which this really foreshadows it happening...doesnt it? It may seem that way with your apparently limited (apparently, I am not saying for certain) knowledge of High Magic and the culture and magic of the Tel'Quessir, but from a vantage point of someone who has seen a lot of attempts at "research" fail horribly, and has read pretty much every FR source about elves, it does not. |

I agree with all of that except, possibly, for the last one. A spell to neutralize the effects of the mythal is basically the weave mythal spell, but spells as powerful as the lattermost ones would certainly had to have been created by the phaerimn or the Elven High Mages themselves. |
