Selgaunt 12-04-03, 04:54 PM	Hi everyone, I was wondering if any of you could either direct me to a place where i could find some Names for our NPC's or give me a few names you've come up with. The reason I ask is because our DM has a problem coming up with new names. Don't get me wrong. He's an amzing Dm(he can really paint a good picture,) however he usually has a hard time coming up with new names. Ie: for some reason, all the npc elves he comes up with, their names always start with the letter "e"!!!
Masakado 12-04-03, 04:55 PM	Google is your friend. ;) There are about a half trillion Fantasy Name Generators on the Internet. The hard bit is that the FR has a pretty distinct nomenclature when it comes to certain names. The FR Core Rulebook has a good list of names as they relate to certain races & cultures that will also be of some help. Even though it relates to FFXI, there is a pretty funny Penny Arcade toon that deals with a fellow that isn't very good at coming up with fantasy names. Some of the dialouge is for grown-ups, so I'll only push you in the direction of the website itself. PM me if you need the name of the particular strip.
Faraer 12-04-03, 05:04 PM	Everchanging Book of Names (http://ebon.uni.cc/) with the Forgotten Realms chapters (data files) is what you need. (The human names are what the FRCS calls Chondathan.)

KismetRose 12-04-03, 10:33 PM	I use Kabalarians (http://www.kabalarians.com/html/surf-by.htm) a lot, as well as the Everchanging Book of names someone linked above. I also have a section for character names that you can see if you click here (http://www.members.aol.com/KismetsDandD/MyCharacterNameList.html) Thinking of names isn't an easy thing, which is why I always keep lots of names on hand.

Kabalarians is a good site -- prolly the most extensive list of names I've seen. Long ago, I learned not to trust my memory for things like that. So now, whenever I come up with a nifty idea, I scribe it down as soon as possible. I'm currently working on getting it all entered into me computer. Currently, the list of unassigned names is over 700 strong. Hopefully, I can finish that up soon... More than once, I've come up with a nifty idea, scribbled it down, and then forgotten about it. Months later, I find that piece of paper, and am amazed at just how cool an idea it is!
ENHenry 12-05-03, 10:59 AM	God bless Kismet Rose and Wooly Rupert. :) I've never seen that site before! The biggest thing is to recognize the source for the name groups in FR and go to that. The hardest is chondathan; It doesn't have an easily mappable Earth analog. But the other language groups (Damaran, Chessentan, Mulhorandi, Alzhedo, etc.) are quite easy to map - Damaran to Slavic, Chessentan to Greek, Mulhorandi to Ancient Egyptian, Alzhedo to Arabic, Tuigan to Nepalese, etc. It may not be 100% accurate, but it'll be as accurate as anything else in a Fantasy RPG. :)
