| Lorimo the Disbeliever03-29-05, 09:02 AM | I am going to run the Adventure Path series from Dungeon Magazine in Forgotten Realms and want to find the best place for town of Cauldron in Faerun. What do you think that would be? Any advice will be appreciated. |
| ClobberinTime03-29-05, 04:02 PM | I would put it on the lake of steam or in the jungles of chult. |
| Muddman03-29-05, 05:08 PM | I agree with the idea of Chult. Maybe Cauldren is a city designed and paid for by various people of the Chultan Peninsula to deal their wares and facilitate commerce with the rest of Faerun, but run by merchant lords from the north (their end of the deal). Could bring some of Chult's unique resources to many more people with unimaginable wealth on the horizon, which is why they do it. |

| Cuindless08-13-06, 03:11 PM | Here's what I did with Shackled City in Forgotten Realms. I put it as a fairly major trading post between Thindol and Samarach on the Chultan Peninsula, not quite out into Chult yet but very close. I put the town nominally under the rulership of the King of Thindol, though with a great deal of autonomy because of its proximity to the frontier coupled with the extensive merchant nobility. I turned the Chisel into the Rundeen, though that required toning down their altruism quite a bit. I also made it seem more "mafia esque" to emphasize their control over the mercantile economy. I kept the High Handcrafters the same. I replaced the Striders of Farlaghn with the Striders of Shaundakul, which added a strange twist on their motivations for investigating the Cagewright activity. Fharlaghn is neutral, while Shaundakul is Chaotic Neutral. This required me to run the Cagewrights as a more oppressive/tyrannical group trying to usher in a New World Order of total despair, which Shaundakul would oppose vehemenantly. It didn't take a lot of work, just a spin on the motivations. The deities were tough at first because of the Kord/Pelor problem (both being ably represented by Lathander and all). Finally I decided that Lathander could replace Kord best because of the primary focus on athletics vice warfare. Pelor I ended up replacing with Selune since that seemed in keeping with the basic role of the faith in Cauldron. Wee Jas was replaced with Kelemvor, making the heretical priests in that church Cyricist holdovers from before the Kelemvor's ascension. Hope this helps. Post what you decided to do and how your campaign is going. |
| Tiferet08-13-06, 05:18 PM | My group is running the Shackled City in Faerune right now actually. We're in the tenth story, so we're almost done. My DM set the game in Chult, and used Lythander, Oghma, Helm and Tempos as the four deities. The priestess that is a cagewright was a member of the church of Oghma, and the church of Helm was the one that helped us out in the earlier stories. As a player, I don't know which church replaced which, so sorry I can't be more specific. Oh, and the Striders follow Shaundakul. We've had a lot of fun with the campaign, and I think it converted into the FRs fairly well. |
| Thelandrach08-14-06, 12:40 PM | I've set this in Chult, midway between the two coastal towns on the northern & southern shores of Chult. Rather than try to translate the deities to FR deities, I kept them as the Core deities and said that those religions aren't worshipped elsewhere in the FR much; there was a turnover in gods a great, long time ago and Ubtao was ceded control over Chult so none of the new gods could get a foothold there. The older gods are still allowed to be worshipped because they predate Ubtao's gig, so you still find followers of Cuthbert, Wee Jas, Kord, Pelor & Farhalanghanan. References to Sasserine are to the city on the northern shore. The basic idea is that Cauldron is a staging area for all the variations-on-the-theme-of-exotic that comes out of the jungle. People accumulate stuff in Cauldron, and then when they have a shipment that's big enough to warrant a heavily-guarded wagon train, they head off past the Lucky Monkey to Sasserine, where the goods get shipped by boat to the Sword Coast et al., or south to the other city, where the goods get shipped to places like Kara-Tur. |
