| JaiaDrottsingr12-17-06, 09:35 AM | Wait! Don't flame me. I've already gone to the Character Development forum with minimal effect. I would like help on how to write as this character. My character is named Makidre (Mah-Khi-Dreh), an exiled CG Ghostwise Halfling running around without a clan name. His stats are as follows. Lv. 2 Barbarian Lv. 3 Ex-Druid Lv. 2 Bard Worshipper of Talos. 34. Has Amnesia and cannot remember past his 26th birthday. Speaks Common, and Halfling. He does not remember learning the following languages, but he can speak, read, and write them fluently: Netherese, Gnoll, Dwarven, Druidic, Elven, Sylvan, Chondathan, Undercommon, and Gnome. His only personal possesion is a flask of unstable quicksilver on a chain around his neck. Including the Racial Reductions his ability stats are: STR 14 DEX 17 CON 15 INT 18 WIS 13 CHA 16 His height is 3'7", he weighs 37 lbs. and his eyes are gray blue. He has brown hair and pale skin. Eccentricities: Tendency to lash out at passing beings for no apparent reason (developed during the period of time that he developed amnesia) Edgy Prefers to be left alone. Easily bored Travels a LOT Narsistic Quick to judge Eccentricites NOT developed during forgotten period of time Vacant expression. Has a split personality. |

| Mad Mage12-19-06, 01:20 PM | Ummm, how can your halfling be CG and worship Talos (who's CE)? |
| JaiaDrottsingr12-19-06, 02:02 PM | Ummm, how can your halfling be CG and worship Talos (who's CE)? Two Step= Worshipping a CE god you can be: CE, LE, NE, CN, or CG. |
| Mad Mage12-20-06, 12:23 AM | Two Step= Worshipping a CE god you can be: CE, LE, NE, CN, or CG. Waaaaaait a sec. Where'd you get that rule? |
| Walls12-20-06, 12:30 AM | To me, ME, the stats seem really high. |
| JaiaDrottsingr12-20-06, 07:52 AM | Waaaaaait a sec. Where'd you get that rule? PHB and FCS. |
| JaiaDrottsingr12-20-06, 07:53 AM | To me, ME, the stats seem really high. I am a very lucky roller. |
| Merlin_Durwood12-20-06, 09:45 PM | PHB and FCS. Umm...I'm not saying you're wrong, but if I'm reading it correctly from both the PHB and FRCS, they're both saying a worshipper should be one step away, unless the God accepts multiple alignments (such as Mystra) or all alignments (such as Kossuth). And the stats seem pretty normal to me. Those are after your modifiers and stat points, correct? |
| MarkusTay6312-21-06, 01:50 AM | I thought I recalled a rule about two steps, but when I just checked it it was one step. Maybe it was two steps in 2.0? Anyhow, why would a 'good' character worship a God of Destruction? Chaotic is one thing, but the character would have to be bi-polar to pull that one off. I think you mentioned multiple personality disorder, so that would work I guess. I would have to assume that during your memory lapses you are doing some VERY naughty things. On the new series Heroes there's a woman that has that problem, so that might be a good starting point for the basis of your character. As far as the one-step rule, I don't think Talos would care; it's the character that would have the problem (with his conscience). I think the backstory would explain it though - "You ride into what appears to be a deserted town, many of the buildings of which look burned down. You see signs of an intense struggle, and wherever you turn there are bloodstains. After a few minutes of riding down the mainstreet you notice some movement out of the corner of your eye. Checking down an alley, you see an elderly man, huddled in a corner. You notice there are two children cowering behind him." Makidre:" I approach them, to see if they are okay and if they need any help" DM: As you near them, but before you can say a word, the old man jumps up, shielding the youths with his own body. "Haven't YOU done enough, he snarls? You've already taken everything, why can't you just leave us be" And of course this is where the DM starts to make the character's life a WHOLE lot more interesting. :plotting:  |
| JaiaDrottsingr12-21-06, 11:12 AM | And the stats seem pretty normal to me. Those are after your modifiers and stat points, correct? Yes One time I got all 18's. The DM made me reroll though. :weep: |
| Faraer12-21-06, 12:10 PM | The one-step thing is just a rule of thumb, representing the fact that 999 out of 1000 good people don't worship (as primary devotion) evil gods, etc. The answer to 'how can your halfling be CG and worship Talos' is not to (mis)quote rules but to explain, as you would to the DM, how this could possibly -- psychologically and religiously -- work. |

I used that in a group story, March of Chaos. *Turns to general public* Have any more ideas? |
| Blackheart12-28-06, 11:24 PM | There's been something bothering me since I saw this thread and since nobody else really addressed it, I thought I would speak up. Like I said, it bothers me. There are no rules against two-step worshipping. The rules to determine steps hold true only to divine spellcasters, which must adhere to a one-step rule. Believing in and following a deity doesn't necessarily equate to being a shaper of divine energies. Besides, the write-up does say EX-Druid. Okay, I feel better. |
| Red_Wizard12-30-06, 12:55 PM | Not to be nit-picky, but how does one go from being a druid of good alignment, to worshipping a god of destruction who hates nature, and whos purpous is the destruction of everything. I know it says EX-Druid, and you have amnesia, but amnesia doesn't change ones morals, or their beliefs on matters. (also, why Ex druid, thats essentially 2 wasted levels  ) |

| MarkusTay6312-30-06, 10:51 PM | I got that. :D Its obviously a lead-in to an adventure arc. Too bad they don't have a PrC for Ex-druids the way they do for Ex-pallys...... or do they? ;) Something akin to the Darksun settings 'defiler'. |
| Red_Wizard12-31-06, 02:27 AM | *Utters something about a plot.* Was hoping it was that, and not some misunderstanding of the rules making you think you were still gaining the druids benifets via Talos ;). |
| Ramenth12-31-06, 04:08 AM | It's possible your character is CG aligned because they see destruction as a good thing and/or focus that destruction on Evil people. |

| MarkusTay6312-31-06, 11:03 AM | The Blighter from Complete Divine? Thanks for that, I thought I read of one somewhere. Kinda hard to keep track of all these PrCs and feats they keep coming up with. Is there an on-line resource listing them all? |
| JaiaDrottsingr01-03-07, 04:49 PM | I got that. :D Its obviously a lead-in to an adventure arc. Yeah, this character is no longer a member of an Adventure. The DM got lung cancer (Pipe smoking is the one bad thing about those British, :nonono:). And I'm too busy to be the alterna_DM, and none of the others have enough experience. Makidre is now just a story character. His Split Persona shall come up soon. |
