We have most of the Lord of the RIngs stuf, and Troy, but if you have any cool song titles, and artists please help me out. :confused:

Stuff by the bands Therion, Nightwish, or Symphony X might work; I just got the Odyssey by Symphony X for Christmas, and the last 'track' is a 24-minute long epic song about the adventures in the Odyssey. It would set a good mood! The Narnia soundtrack would probably be good, too. Also, some stuff by Enya might work depending on the mood of the game/setting; it would be appropriate for a Druidic Circle, or the Moonshaes, or possibly some Elven settlements.

There are some game soundtracks of note such as Baldurs Gate & Baldurs Gate II and I am very partial to the Crimson Skies soundtrack. It is really, really good.

Blackheart 12-27-05, 04:57 AM	My Dying Bride, Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir all use sweeping symphonics along with a brand of metal steeped in creepy stories, demons, undead, etc.. Also, the thrash bands that came out of the mid 80s put out some really good instrumentals. (Testament, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer) I agree with everyone else so far on music, too. Good stuff for gaming. *nods*

Much of the music from that film is done by a band called "Tangerine Dream" Somehow, I got a four disc "best of" collection from this band, some of it is synthesizer heavy, so may not fit in with your tastes for fantasy music although it retains a surreal "ethereal" quality. How about the "Midnight Syndicate" music? I got one from a Halloween store, but it's more then just chain rattling.
LucyWanabe 12-29-05, 09:15 PM	If you are able to find it, there's an original symphonic soundtrack for Legend that was replaced with the stuff by Tangerine Dream (I have no idea WHY, though). The original stuff done for Legend was composed by Jerry Goldsmith, which should tell of the quality of the orignal orchestral soundtrack. A crime, really, that Jerry's work was taken out of Legend and replaced with that Tangerine Dream clunk... [/rant] *Cough* Anyway, if you can find a copy of the original Jerry Goldsmith soundtrack for Legend, go for it.
Cyric the Dark Sun 12-30-05, 11:55 AM	I think some metal can liven things up, especially in temples and such. For a temple of Bane and other regimented evil deities I recommend black metal like Mayhem-A Grand Declaration of War. For a temple of Cyric and other more sneaky deities, Darkthrone and Judas Iscariot. For more chaotic temples, death metal like Deicide and Behemoth works well. And you cannot go wrong with Burzum when adventuring in a graveyard...
velglarn 01-16-06, 08:01 AM	Well, I use some songs of Midnight Syndicate. I prefer to use songs for some special regions and locations. In my campaigns of dwarves, i play Hammerfall and Manowar for epic battle songs, in campaigns of elven forests etc, Enya and Loreena MC Kennit are suitable. For Calimshan and Amn based campaigns, I use Dead Can Dance and Mercan Dede (fantastic Turkish artist). You play lots of game soundtrack music, too. You can find the soundtrack of the games Diablo II, Warcraft III, Starcraft, Fallout on the internet oficially. Also, songs of Neverwinter Nights, Heroes III, and Ultima Online can be found in the games' folders in mp3 format. Old Sparky 01-16-06, 09:30 AM	The soundtracks from both the Hercules and Xena tv shows have plenty to offer... 3 and 4 volumes respectively. I also use a variety of movie soundtracks named above, and have 3 CDs of Midnight Syndicate... Realm of Shadows, Born of the Night, and Gates of Delirium. And, if I'm not mistaken, wasn't the D&D soundtrack performed by Midnight Syndicate?

Some actually feel it can enhance the mood if used appropriately. And now that I think of it, the soundtrack from Kevin Sorbo's Conan-wannabe flick, Kull: The Conqueror was a nice mix of your typical fantasy score with some kickarse electric guitar thrown in the mix at times. :cool:

Mad Mage 01-22-06, 12:47 AM	One song I honestly suggest for big heroic moments, like when a character in a campaign suddenly does something to set things fight; including a momentous fight, spell, etc.: 'The Touch' by Stan Bush. Fans of The Transformers (especially those who remember the cult classic movie from 1986) should remember this song. It's all about a person being at their greatest and holding out to the end. Trust me; a must-listen for those prolific and heroic moments. :cool:

Just in case people were having a hard time finding the soundtrack under the name listed by the poster who mentioned this movie.

Pawn I have to admit, Radio Rivendell is brilliant for general background music, including a lot of different music from films/games/lesser known artists and composers. There are two minor problems with that though... 1. Might not have internet access at gaming location. 2. The thing about online radio (and radio in general), is that you cant select what song is played... meaning you wont always have appropriate music for whatever is currently occuring in the adventure.. for example.. the Radio station might play slow, calm music during a rather intense action-filled climactic situation, where you would want exciting, fast-paced music. Being that the OP has said that "We have to have music for all critical points." suggests to me that they are playing specific songs at specific climactic points in the game, so Radio might not be suitable. I love listening to Radio Rivendell while working on stuff, writing for example... or even when playing games (roleplaying games for example)

DMintheRealms 01-26-06, 10:50 PM	There are some very awesome tunes suggested, all of which can be made to go with almost any occassion (even some metal applies!) One title and group which I did not see is called MANOWAR. The disc, ironically, is called "Kings of Metal" They have a song entitled "the warriors prayer" which is really cool for a paladin or battle cleric. One of my players had a paladin who would recite most of this just before going into battle. There are quite a few others on the disc that make for good gaming music.

I used to put a lot of classical music (Arvo Pärt) and soundtracks but to put emphasis on a situation I like to vary the style. For the seedy sort of meetings in taverns and inns, I like the 1950s cool jazz. Miles Davis comes to mind with the Ascenseur pour l'échafaud (althought not all tracks are suitable). Also, I always thought that the Tom Waits song in Shrek 2 would fit the mood in particular situation (I like my love with a little drop of poison) Bel

Sometimes I play Enya, ´cause some of her songs are really cool, when players are not fighting, or when they´re just talking about how to do this or how to break that door ... And Era, I guess they´re from France. They have a good style. Their songs are calm and peaceful. And of course, Nightwish. I think there´s nothing comparable. This thread also reminds me of one fact. Months ago, we were playing like never we did. More than four days for week, and since I´m the DM, I was seriously nervous with the game [as usually]. We were used to play some songs while we´re playing... But that time I was fed up... I played almost all my albuns. Nightwish, Epica, Evanescence... even my mother´s Titanic Soundtrack I played lol Then I asked one of my player, hey, can you bring some music next time?. He, yeah. Ok with me. I thought he knew what I was asking for when I said "some music". I thought he knew what KIND of music he should bring. Well, the other day he brought 3 Britney Spears´, Madonna´s Greatest Hits and Alanis Morissette´s Umplugged... OMG! That´s nothing wrong with those girls, I like then... But how could him think about those people? I mean we were going to play RPG, not going to dance lol It was very funny... Everybody started making fun of him. After this episode, we played, listening to Nightwish as always... And I decided that if I create the game, if I´m the one supposed to give then a game to play, then I´m the one who MUST choose the soundtracks of our campaigns... ;)
WhrenKehrsyn 02-04-06, 01:58 PM	The Elder Scrolls 3:Morrowind soundtrack is great, also the Baldurs Gate and Icewind Dale soundtracks. A good portion of the soundtracks for the various Final Fantasy games are wonderful as well, in particular ff6 and ff11. I found a remix of the main theme for Morrowind called Island of Edges Remix that is absolutely beautiful, I dont know who the origional author is though. Also This site (http://www.cmpsr2000.com/mp3s.html) has some neat stuff on it.

We have most of the Lord of the RIngs stuf, and Troy, but if you have any cool song titles, and artists please help me out. :confused: Heart of Steel - by Manowar (song); Episode III ST (which provides exceptional epic moments), O Fortuna (you find it very easily, but it's part of the Carmina Burana), Braveheart ST, First Knight ST, Nightfall in Middle Earth - by Blind Guardia (album). Also there are certain fantasy VG soundtracks that fit very well to a D&D campaign, but I don't know if it's legal to mention them here. Is it is make me know, so that I can post them.
