| WVgamer09-01-05, 07:11 PM | Besides the obvious City of Shade (too many Shades for my PCs's tastes :chicken: ), where would be a good location to score some artifacts from the good ol' days of Netheril? Also, where can i find some stats for these relics? |

Also, where can i find some stats for these relics? Hmm... Nether Mountains. High Forest. Skullport. That mine along Anauroch. Anauroch. Sea of Fallen Stars cause of the enclaves that crashed into it. There's a forest or two on the Coast that was also used..... As for items, try to the Netheril box set....... Anything else you can make up. :) |
| Aylomeizen09-01-05, 07:22 PM | The Halruuans are undoubtedly your best bet. Good luck getting to them, though. |
| Preternatural09-01-05, 07:25 PM | There would be bits and pieces scattered all over Anauroch. Likely amongst the three (formerly) surviving city states. Any place where a fallen Netherese enclave crashed might have something, such as Larloch's enclave which landed in Narfell. Any surviving remnant of Netheril might have something, such as Larloch's Crypt. Lost Empires of Faerun is a good place for information on these. The old 2e Arcane age supplements might give you ideas on locations and item ideas. And I'm sure many books with magic items might contain a item or two from Netheril. However, I believe there was a note made in LEoF, the Netherese were highly dependant on their Mythallars, which had specially enchanted items attuned and powered by a Mythallar. After those failed, most of their items reverted back to mundane items. I'm sure the millennia of looting and recycling further reduced the number of working Netherese items in existence. But it all depends on what you want/need for your campaign. |
| WVgamer09-01-05, 07:27 PM | Thanks. I kinda have an idea for a campaign that's part treasure hunting, part arceology, and about a third role playing, a third stealth, and a third combat |
| Kadasbrass09-01-05, 09:53 PM | There is a fallen city in the very northwest corner of the Anauroch. Under the Western Heartlands, there is a part of the Underdark called the Netherese Caverns. In the center of it is the ruins of a underground enclave founded after Karsus' Folly. most of the city covered with fallen rocks, and most adventures have had little luck finding stuff... Mentioned on pg 185 of the Underdark sourcebook. |
| WVgamer09-01-05, 11:07 PM | thanks |
| dragonheart09-02-05, 10:27 AM | generally the areas in and around Anauroch are most likely to have Netherese ruins however they ranged as far west as waterdeep and the sword coast and as far east as the eastern edge of the Moonseas (I think) and probably south as far as the Dragonreach with their cities and outposts so really almost anywhere in the Heartlands would work. Further east was NArfell and Raumanthor(sp?) and south were the Calishite Caliphates controlled by Efreet and Djinn and Jamadath with its psions as well as elves and Dwarves on all so that sort of set limits on their range. |
| Yom Beekus09-02-05, 07:35 PM | There was also a city that was built beneath Sea of Fallen Stars. If I'm remembering correctly, the Phaerimm did something to the magic field that held the water at bay. It exploded or something like that and that helped create a bay (at a loss at the moment for the name) along the Sea of Fallen Stars. I think is was near Sembia or something like that. Could make an interesting archeology hunt underwater. |
| WVgamer09-02-05, 07:40 PM | Thanks everyone, these are all great suggestions, and I'm starting to write something for levels three to *insert level number when I finish or they pass my writing with their playing* |
| Snarkbone09-02-05, 08:36 PM | just out of curiosity what relecs do you expect to find? According to the Lost Empires, the archmages used mythallars to power their spells and magic items without the need to exert personal effort (mythallars drew power directly form the weave) when all the mythallars were destroyed (after that Karsus vs. Mystryl showdown) all their magical items ceased to work or be in any way magical. Other thing is the land dwelling netherese mages who did not rely on mythallars but instead developed true lvl 9 and 10 spells but Mystra banned those, so now we don't have lvl10 and only fake lvl9's (similar effect at reduced power) I'm just curious what are you going to look for? |
| WVgamer09-02-05, 08:58 PM | Anything. Any possible place where there could be conflict over treasure or artifacts of Netherese origin. I don't care if it's in a respected Wizard academy, I don't care if it's in the underdark, I don't care if it's in the bottom of a sea. I just don't care, since the PC's are resourceful, or should be. As for what they'll be going after, I just want something that would appeal to someone interested in Netherese artifacts or history. That simple. If they could move one of the fallen cities, they would. If they could restore the mythals so the items could work, they would. But just because an item no longer has a powersource doesn't mean it's still not an item, right? Sure, it's just a chunck of materials, but to the right people, it could be worth several morbidly obese halflings' weights in gold. |

As I see it the ban is the sign of her weakness. Just a thought :) |
| WVgamer09-02-05, 10:19 PM | ohhhh....good one. I'm a rookie DM (slightly less rookie player), so all I had was the Pc's vs. Shades like how Dr. Jones went against a certain German Political party. |

Sure, it's just a chunck of materials, but to the right people, it could be worth several morbidly obese halflings' weights in gold. then any netherese site would work. and yes even "dead" artifacts would be of interest to many and worth considerable amounts of gold/minor magic items in exchange. in essence the problem wiht Mythallars and many other netherese items is that the mythallars were powered by 10+ level spells that no lnonger can be cast; when Mystryl died so did all leveled spells (epic magic remained apperently) so anything created and powered wth these spells could not be restarted (except by epic magic probably). still the object itself might provide clues to what the spells did and that would be useful to a mage exploring posibilities for epic magic. :D I can jsut see the characters standing there with Elminster, Khelbin, LArloch, Zsass Tamm, Telemont, The Symbul, Halaster, and the ruler of Halruua standing in front of them bidding agaisnt each other for items found. :D |

I just got my MM, PH, and FRCS back. :cloud9: |
| Rose_Dechara09-04-05, 12:14 PM | WVgamer I've been playing with lot of the same idea in my campaign setting. The players number 3 at start and are now 19th level. They are currently getting more players to help build a small army to help clean out Myth Drannor, sense i'm not letting them run that many NPC. You might be asking what this has to do with netherese artifects. The best artifect i would have to say is the nether Scroll's which is detailed in the Lost empires of Fearun, Great book, It details what you get from reading the five scrolls. My players are currently going after old nertherese lore of any kind trying to help them pick up lost item. The scroll's are currently in the form of the Tree in a garben in the windsong tower.....which has no boors to get in???? Do some research on Myth Drannor it will pay off. |
| WVgamer09-04-05, 12:24 PM | I'll have to pick that up sometime, but not soon, since I have about $20 a month (teenager living off an allowance), and I'm busy the next two dungeons and I always by Dragon but that'll go to the top of my list. |
| Delnyn09-04-05, 04:41 PM | The party does not have to restrict its searches to such things as mythallars and blast sceptres. You could make reasonable money by finding and authenticating everyday items such as ancient cutlery, an artisan's office, keys to prisons, or even such things as recipes for chicken soup or the score to a Netherese opera. Elminster would pay great coin for a Netherese smoking pipe, even if it is non-magical, but getting his attention might be a bit tricky. :D |
