We all know that the Netherese used upside-down mountain-tops to build there immense cities on, now what I was wondering is where did they get the mountains tops from, I mean if they used tops from Faerunian mountains how come there is nothing described anywhere in whatever WotC has put out. And don't tell me mountainstops regrow in a timelapse of a couple thousands of years (or at all).

Is this an inconsistency or did i miss something?

03-11-04, 02:31 PM Well, if you take a look at just the map of Faerun given in the FRCS, there are a lot of mountains. And there's nothing that says they couldn't have taken mountaintops from mountains in the unknown regions. Just a thought.

03-11-04, 02:58 PM Given the fact that the Netherese craved for gathering and obtaining magical lore instead of making sure that the lands surrounding them weren't scarred (save for that Phaerimm-incident :( ) it would be easier (less strenious) for them to obtain the tops from around Faerun instead of other realms or lands.

So how come there isn't a single line in the WotC books saying; "blablabla came at the top of what used to be a mountainpeak, but is now a flat surface, inflicted by the netherese".

I mean, this is NOT something that you can miss whilst travelling through Faerun.

03-11-04, 04:53 PM It's also explicitly stated that in the magical battles between the phaerimm and sharn right after Netheril's fall the sheared off mountain tops were regrown. That's why there aren't any in the modern realms. From the Netheril box:

"Whatever the truth, it was known that the sharn’s magic caused geological disruptions all across Anauroch each time their magic intersected phaerimm magic. Mountains whose peaks had been sheared off to serve as platforms for Netherese cities reformed in the wake of sharn magic. New mountain ranges formed, some disappeared, and even the High Ice grew and expanded as a result of the colliding spells."

03-11-04, 11:33 PM The avariel entry in Races of Faerūn is the only place I know of where a sheared-off mountaintop from back in those days is mentioned.
