| Raistlin_0510-27-06, 10:31 AM | Well, I figured this is the best place to post this, so when is the game set to release? |
| Todesherr10-27-06, 10:59 AM | Well, I figured this is the best place to post this, so when is the game set to release? Soon...end of this month or some time next month...they keep on postponing the release date...but it HAS gone Gold, which means that the release it not far behind... |
| Max the Immortal10-27-06, 02:40 PM | I heard it will be released on the 31st of October. |
| BrianCritchley10-28-06, 02:11 AM | the game is set for release of of oct 31st. the game will feature an aweful lot of truely awesome stuff. from the sounds of it. including subraces, various prestige classes. etc. it should be noted that the warlock is added to the base classes. (thus being an offical realms product with the warlock in it) for a website with plenty of links to info on it I suggest http://nwvault.ign.com/ that site there. |
| MasterGrazzt10-29-06, 05:10 PM | I believe the Mere of Dead Men is where it starts, and that sounds pretty interesting. Anyone else remember that long running adventure series set there that ran in Dungeon magazine in the mid-90s? |
| Garidas10-29-06, 05:26 PM | I think the game is gonna be awesome. You got any idea what your gonna try to play first? Me: I think a Sun Elf Wizard will do the trick. |
| BrianCritchley10-29-06, 06:12 PM | I'm going to try an eldritch Knight. I find spellcasters in games like NWN prove very useful, but occasionally you need the endurance of a warrior. an eldritch Knight thus outta work nicely. |
| Gemcaster10-31-06, 04:13 AM | Im definitely going for a dwarf (either gold or grey) fighter/dwarven defender, possibly with some cleric levels mixed in. |
| Lord Karsus10-31-06, 12:30 PM | -Here's the real problem. Should I buy when game when it is new, and pay $29.99-$49.00 (whatever it costs), and be able to play it now, or wait until the prices goes down? I was able to wait with the first game, and got the NWN: Platnium Edition, which had all of the expansions, for only $30.00. having played the first game, I don't know if I'll be able to wait... |
| Bladesong10-31-06, 08:38 PM | I refuse to buy this game unless they release an expansion with the Bladesinger PrC. |
| Lord Karsus10-31-06, 10:28 PM | I refuse to buy this game unless they release an expansion with the Bladesinger PrC. -I'll second that, as long as it does the Bladesinger PrC justice. |

I'd buy it new, the fact is you don't know if NWN2 will have the extreme lonjg life of the original NWN. |
| BiteSizedDragonSnack11-01-06, 07:11 AM | I'll probably be picking this up today or tomorrow. Not sure what I'll play as yet. I've been avoiding looking at the new races/subraces/classes/ect so I'll be surprised when I start the game. |
| Fabius Maximus11-01-06, 07:46 AM | I refuse to buy this game unless they release an expansion with the Bladesinger PrC. I bet the PRC Consortium will implement new PrCs, like they did with NWN I. |
| Bladesong11-01-06, 10:05 AM | Hopefully but it would be nice if it were official. |
| Lord Karsus11-01-06, 10:08 AM | I'd buy it new, the fact is you don't know if NWN2 will have the extreme lonjg life of the original NWN. -That is a good point, but a shorter lifespan means that the price drops quicker, since stores will just be trying to get rid of the thing. On the other hand, it could wind up like the FR interactive Atlas...:nonono: |
| BrianCritchley11-01-06, 01:59 PM | -That is a good point, but a shorter lifespan means that the price drops quicker, since stores will just be trying to get rid of the thing. On the other hand, it could wind up like the FR interactive Atlas...:nonono: well I'm hoping this game will have the lifespan of NWN1, what with it's 2 expansion packs, multiple premium modules (only ever tried the King maker stuff and wyvren corwn of cormyr, all where good and wyvren crown was simply awesome) and then the fan made content... I mean if there's something you want chances are there's a hak file for it in NWN. |
| runestar11-02-06, 09:57 AM | My store is supposedly bringing it in on the 10th of november.:) Though I will probably wait until my exams end(a few weeks after that) before picking it up. Never was one who could resist temptation...:embarrass Yeah, I am looking forward to trying out a gish build myself. |
| Priest_of_Shaundakul11-02-06, 10:25 AM | I got my copy yesterday, haven't played it yet (waiting for a group so we can play the main campaign together first time throught) |
| BrianCritchley11-02-06, 08:46 PM | I've got it and have played it it's well beautiful |
| Lord Karsus11-02-06, 09:08 PM | -What are the racial and class starting options? Same as the first? |
| Max the Immortal11-03-06, 01:00 AM | I picked it up today and played it a bit. It feels a lot like the original NWN, but better. The graphics are good, but you may need a pretty good graphics card to run it; I have an nVidia GeForce 7800 GT, and it runs pretty well, but not perfectly on my machine. There are new subraces. You can choose between moon, sun, wood, and drow elves, between shield dwarf, gold dwarf, and duergar, and between lightfoot and strongheart halflings. Aasimar, tieflings and svirfneblin are also available. The more powerful races have level adjustments as normal. The base classes are the ones in the PH, as well as warlock. There are quite a few prestige classes available, including Eldritch Knight, Frenzied Berzerker, and Pale Master. So, yeah, there are quite a few character-building options in this incarnation of NWN. |
| Crust11-03-06, 09:51 AM | I'm going with the moon elf rogue/warlock. His name is Maerydrim Castelarion. :D The rogue/warlock mix is great. Leaps and bounds gives me a relatively permenant Dex of 24, and I'm only 3rd level! I'm thinking the devil's sight/darkness combo might work well with ranged sneaks (or melee sneaks), and the beguiling power will help me with my bluff checks. Beyond that... we'll see. Perhaps one level in shadowdancer will round him out nicely. Hide in plain sight was CLUTCH in NWN 1. ;) |
| Red_Wizard11-03-06, 12:16 PM | Great game, love the Lawful Good, Chaotic evil ring with the limeted edition :D |
| Lord Karsus11-03-06, 12:44 PM | -I'm getting all giddy. I might have to go out and buy it now... |
| Davidw11-03-06, 06:54 PM | I got it today and so far it's bugging me something rotten. The camera angle turns at such a snail's pace and everything about it seems just so sluggish compared to how quickly NWN 1 moved. Then again, I didn't like NWN 1 at the time but it grew on me, so maybe I'll like this one more after a while. |
| Max the Immortal11-03-06, 07:33 PM | You can adjust the speed at which the camera rotates, up to an acceptable rate. Another tidbit for those wondering what new: It appears that item creation feats are more involved, and probably worth taking. You find books with the recipes over the course of your adventures, which you can use to enchant weapons, wondrous items, etc. at the appropriate workbench, provided that you can gather the materials. Crafting weapons and armor appears more streamlined, and actually useful: One book I found in-game suggests that it's possible for a character to make equipment made of mithral, adamantine, alchemical silver, and cold iron. |
| The_Third_Karsus11-03-06, 08:14 PM | I got the game, I've been playing it, and all I can say is "WOW!" |
| BrianCritchley11-03-06, 10:00 PM | I look at NWN and the original campaign and I look at NWN well now.. and all I can say is that.. wow. that being said one feat that it's a pity isn't there is daylight adjustment. my friend whose a drow fan sobbed a bit at that ;) |
| Max the Immortal11-03-06, 10:35 PM | Since I'm in the mood to share details, I'll tell you what I know about NPCs. The henchman system from NWN1 is gone. You make your one character, and other characters join you every so often, like in a more traditional console RPG. So far, all characters have the exact same XP total; I've read that later you can leave some characters at your home base to make room for others, and don't know if the XP equality will continue at that point. Each character has a pretty decent AI controlling it, but you can override it by taking control of the character, or (if you want to use a slightly different play style) by having your character issue commands to the other party members. You can customize the AI of each character, or even set them to "puppet mode", in which they won't do anything until you tell them to. Anyone wanna know anything else? |
| Lord Karsus11-04-06, 12:09 AM | The henchman system from NWN1 is gone. You make your one character, and other characters join you every so often, like in a more traditional console RPG. -Ah, that's too bad. I was hoping that the Henchman system would be more like it was in Icewind Dale II, where you simply make a party of one-six and control them all. I liked having a henchman in the first one (What was that kobolds name? ;) ), but not having complete, complete, control over them was something that upset me a bit. |
| BrianCritchley11-04-06, 12:17 AM | having gotten a bit further ahead yes NPC experiance contiunes to exactly match your own, some may dislike this but I find it nice. I was hoping that the Henchman system would be more like it was in Icewind Dale II, where you simply make a party of one-six and control them honestly IWD and IWD's impliment of that system was one of the turn offs for me, as it resulted in no interaction with the party much like BG2 your party interacts with you and each other and has their own personalities. NPCs I've run across so far: NG Dwarven Fighter (who wants to be a monk) N Teifling NG wood Elf Druid CN Human Sourceress. NG Gnome Bard (why is it that every game always has to include an annoying Gnome NPC?) LG Human Paladin. |
| Lord Karsus11-04-06, 12:22 AM | honestly IWD and IWD's impliment of that system was one of the turn offs for me, as it resulted in no interaction with the party much like BG2 your party interacts with you and each other and has their own personalities. -Well, I'm one of the few who haven't played BG2, so I don't know about that. But, I enjoyed having a large party, a la IWD. It is correct, that no one had any personality, and that everyone was simply there. But, again, I enjoyed being able to make a party consisting of a two Clerics, two Wizards, a Fighter and a Rogue. :) |
| runestar11-04-06, 01:31 AM | Ironically, after trying out a solo campaign in BG2, I was so enamoured with the solo concept that I stopped playing parties from then on...the work of micromanaging 6 PCs just seemed to be so much work compared to a single character...:embarrass That was partially why I liked the henchman system in NWN...:P |
| BrianCritchley11-04-06, 03:18 AM | NWN2 is the perfect blend there. it's a party system like BG2, but the party has good eneugh AI so that you don't need to micromanage |
| Max the Immortal11-04-06, 05:15 AM | If you really want to, you can set all of your companions to puppet mode: In combat, they won't do anything you don't tell them to, and out of combat they'll follow you around and wait for your orders. You can have up to three companions with you at any time, not including temporary (quest-specific) companions over which you have less control. I've already read on other forums that micro-managing your companions (especially the aforementioned sorceress) will give you a distinctive edge. |
| Garidas11-04-06, 05:20 AM | Somebody said it was slow angle on the camera, that is only when you use the mouse to angle, use the directions on your keyboard. This game is great, I am hooked on the story. |
| Davidw11-04-06, 01:34 PM | You can adjust the speed at which the camera rotates, up to an acceptable rate. I changed it to the fastest speed and it's still too slow. I'm going to have another go with it in a bit, but if I don't like I'll just wait a few weeks for someone releasing a hack that overrides the camera turn speed. |
| Dargoth11-05-06, 11:25 PM | having gotten a bit further ahead yes NPC experiance contiunes to exactly match your own, some may dislike this but I find it nice. honestly IWD and IWD's impliment of that system was one of the turn offs for me, as it resulted in no interaction with the party much like BG2 your party interacts with you and each other and has their own personalities. | KnightErrantJR11-05-06, 11:34 PM | For those that have played both, it the party system like Knights of the Old Republic. For example, you control one character, the other ones are on "auto pilot," but you can switch which one you control on the fly if you want to hand pick the tactics of a specific character? |
| BrianCritchley11-06-06, 04:37 AM | odd no Rogues........ or is the Tiefling meant to be a rogue? yeah the teifling is a rogue. I've gotten to a point where I can say with reasonable certinty that I've gotten each of the NPCs. the only classes missing are the warlock and barbarian. |
| Max the Immortal11-06-06, 08:24 AM | For those that have played both, it the party system like Knights of the Old Republic. For example, you control one character, the other ones are on "auto pilot," but you can switch which one you control on the fly if you want to hand pick the tactics of a specific character? Yeah, that's how it works. If you're a stickler for contolling all your characters, you can set any or all of them on puppet mode, turning off the auto-pilot. This is sometimes a very good idea: Left to her own devices, the sorceress is a stupid, stupid girl; she'll cast a fireball at a single, wounded enemy, or cast a dispel on a foe who clearly hasn't been buffed, just because she can. I really hope that a patch improves her tactics. On the whole, though, I really like the auto-pilot system and rarely feel the need to tell my companions what to do. |
| Alediran11-06-06, 09:35 AM | Yeah, that's how it works. If you're a stickler for contolling all your characters, you can set any or all of them on puppet mode, turning off the auto-pilot. That is why I play the main character as a Wizard and have companions with less complex classes. |
| createvmind11-06-06, 12:38 PM | Ok Breakdown, The game is a system hog so beware that if you are not ready to invest in another graphics card. I have a geforce 7800 GTX with an Asus motherboard yadda yadda and I can't really crank it to highest settings without it going off occasionally. It has a patch that may resolve some of these issues howver trying to download the patch presents it's own problems. The item creation system is definitely worth playing now, I think they followed the Morrowind success with creations. It's enjoyable however to modders like myself they have revamped the toolset totally so that may take some time readjusting too. Enjoy all |

| Dargoth11-06-06, 05:59 PM | Any ideas on how well my PC is likely to run NWN2? 1 Gig of RAM P4 2.8Ghz processor Radeon 9800XT (256 RAM) |
| BrianCritchley11-06-06, 10:12 PM | Yeah, that's how it works. If you're a stickler for contolling all your characters, you can set any or all of them on puppet mode, turning off the auto-pilot. "my power is within me I can't possiably LEARN anything. learning is for chumps" "right well with that additude you can stay here and keep uncle duncan company" |
| Aldareth11-07-06, 10:15 AM | Yeah just dont take the sorceres she blasts EVERYTHING away, if she could choose spells it would be all Fireballs or something that blasts enemys away |
| BrianCritchley11-07-06, 07:20 PM | Yeah just dont take the sorceres she blasts EVERYTHING away, if she could choose spells it would be all Fireballs or something that blasts enemys away course the cleric you get later on likewise has a annoying tendancy to cast the wrong spells. I find elanee with natural spell though makes a good NPC caster |
| Alediran11-08-06, 08:56 AM | course the cleric you get later on likewise has a annoying tendancy to cast the wrong spells. I find elanee with natural spell though makes a good NPC caster They put Nature Spell for the Druid? Yahoooooooooooooo! |
| BrianCritchley11-08-06, 02:18 PM | They put Nature Spell for the Druid? Yahoooooooooooooo! yeah it's in the 1.01 patch. |
| Gallameed11-08-06, 02:43 PM | How come the elves are so short? Elves are the same height as humans in FR (apart from the drow) so whats up with that? |
| Roman11-08-06, 05:52 PM | This game is simply great! It evokes memories of BG II in me and that's high praise from me indeed. |
| Max the Immortal11-09-06, 01:25 AM | course the cleric you get later on likewise has a annoying tendancy to cast the wrong spells. Yeah, but at least you can control what spells she prepares. Same with the wizard; he's actually a better nuker than the sorceress in most cases. And yes, the surface elves should be taller. Must be a goof on the designers' part. |
| BrianCritchley11-09-06, 03:27 AM | on the other hand if thats the only lore goof on the desiogners part then I'd say it's pretty good. although I belive they got their illefarns mixed up. (forgiveable) |
| Elven Avenger11-09-06, 11:08 AM | They put Nature Spell for the Druid? Yahoooooooooooooo! Yeah, I say Yahoo for that too, I was waiting for someday see this feat on a game. And it's not so that, now since Nwn 2 its 3.5 rules, you can spontaneous cast summon nature ally like the cleric does with cure spells. The patch 1.01 has also added some new magics for Druids, and now you can have Augment Summoning too power up them. With no doubt I will play with much like, when my game arrives, with a Wood Elf, Druid. |
| Max the Immortal11-09-06, 11:45 AM | The only other goof I recognized was that a character used the word "infernal" when referring to demons. Of course, this could have been an error on the part of the character, not the designers (or the designers could have just thought that the word "abyssal" was too clunky). I was a little bit disappointed by the range of options for the coloration of certain subraces, particularly moon elves. I always imagine moon elves with very fair skin, sometimes pinkish, sometimes more bluish. I also thought that they had a wider range of hair colors (including brown, green, and purplish) the current version of the game does not provide. At least I can make a Vhaeraunite drow with silver eyes. Of course, these are very minor quibbles. I must reiterate that I love this game. I am totally swept up in the storyline, and can't wait to see what happens next. I just got to chapter three, and all of a sudden I keep getting blindsided and totally pwned by the big baddies. It's so fun. |
| BrianCritchley11-09-06, 02:14 PM | well yeah there are more varities of elf colours then depicted in the game on the other hand limiting it to the most common colours wasn't nesscarily a bad thing. perhaps with NWN2 I can now have my players realizing that blonde moon elves are rare ;) |
