| The Vanguard12-16-03, 10:55 PM | Hi long time fan and hopeful future author of 3rd FR world, now I thimk there should be some source books on the following, Waterdeep, Zakhara, Kara-Tur. Also some new Volo like guides as well should be made, but using a new character. |

I really dig Waterdeep, but it's already had a 1st edition sourcebook and a 2nd edition boxed set, as well as a Volo's Guide... Maybe an update of the entire North, with a good bit devoted to Waterdeep, but no more than that. And I rather liked Volo and his Guides... They brought a rich amount of flavor to the Realms, as well as some nifty ideas. I see no reason to discontinue having Volo do the guidebooks that have already made him (in)famous. |

I dunno, it's not like we *need* another Waterdeep sourcebook between the 5+ that already exist for Waterdeep, in box sets and sourcebooks, but the powers that be decided already. And Undermountain has two box sets and three modules..... |
| Desies12-16-03, 11:30 PM | Seeing as I know very very little of Kara-Tur I'd like to see as much as possible about that! |
| Herr Doktor12-16-03, 11:38 PM | Speaking of the Land of Fate, is there a board devoted to Al-Qadim somewhere on the wizards.com boards? There doesn't seem to be one in the Other Worlds section, and I was lookin' to do some conversion and such for the Al-Qadim material I've got for an online game. On Topic: I'd like to see the Land of Fate update, and Kara-tur, certainly. The Waterdeep supplement should be fun, but I'd say a Moonsea supplement or one of the other less detailed areas should be tackled first. |

There was one on the old boards but when the new boards were reorganized WOTC didn't keep them since there wasn't much traffic on them, so they are part of the main FR boards now. |

I thought they were both good, shrug. :) But as every one else said, a new place or some of the really old sourcebooks should be updated instead of Waterdeep and Undermountain. Sigh I'm still hoping for a new update on the Moonshae's since that product is really old. :( But Zakhara would be nice also, however, there is no plans for the old campaign settings like Zakhara, Kara-tur and Maztica. |

You're right, the Moonshaes haven't been touched since the 1st edition sourcebook... Something else I'd like to see is some of the places that have been mentioned, but never really described. For example, I can't think of any official sources that have really said much about Lantan, Nimbral, or Mintarn... |
| Iakhovas12-17-03, 12:13 AM | I'd take a Moonshae update. It has been a god awful long time since that region has seen print. But my #1 request for a new regional sourcebook would have to be for The Shaar. It is an incredibly large region of the Realms and it has had little information revealed about it. |

Well there was Halls of the High King, but that took place before Alicia become High Queen..... :( But yeah I agree, a sourcebook on some other places that haven't been detailed before or not updated in over 10+ years would be better then another Waterdeep sourcebook. |
| Desies12-17-03, 12:27 AM | Maybe an Island Kingdoms Sourcebook. It could cover Lantan, Evermeet and things like that. |
| Wooly Rupert12-17-03, 12:41 AM | Originally posted by Desies Maybe an Island Kingdoms Sourcebook. It could cover Lantan, Evermeet and things like that. That's not a bad idea... Though I'd not want to see much of Evermeet in there. Enough to bring it up to date, but that's it. I liked the Elves of Evermeet sourcebook. |
| Cernunnos12-17-03, 12:43 AM | Well, next 3 confirmed Realms products are the Player's Guide, Serpent Kingdoms, and Waterdeep. We also know there MAY be something on the horizon about the ruined empires (prob. Netheril and Imaskar). Al-Qadim is probably going to be by the wayside for a long while (though they are converting the sha'ir in Dragon 315, which is frankly one of the hardest things to convert from 2e, they rest you can probably wing), Kara-Tur is pretty much officially abandoned (other than being mentioned in other Realms products). I think a Sword Coast book would be a good idea... that way you could fit the Moonshaes, Lantan, Baldur's Gate, and a few more cities into one big book. Evermeet probably deserves its own book (in 3.5, probably included in something on Elves of the Realms or something). I'd almost put money that a book on Sembia/Cormyr/the Dales will see light of day in the next 2-3 years. Then again, I have to admit that since Silver Marches WotC has been suprising me with their choice of sourcebooks. |
| Kuje3112-17-03, 12:45 AM | Originally posted by Cernunnos Kara-Tur is pretty much officially abandoned (other than being mentioned in other Realms products). Kara-Tur was in that article also. :) |

Of the modules, the only one I really liked was the last one. Dead on analysis. The first box set rocked. The second one paled compared to it. I liked the first module and loved H'Man's Harvest in the third one. Ahh, memories.....simple times, before Prestige Classes dominated 90% of a new product. :D |
| the_heart12-17-03, 09:14 AM | i'd love to see Zakhara done. and i must try and get D315, the sha'ir was one of the classes with the biggest potential, but a pig to implement. was there ever a lot of info on Kara Tur? the 1E OA was not very big on details, as i remember. and i never did see any other material on OA, other than a few adventure modules. |
| AlexanderHeppe12-17-03, 10:39 AM | On Regional Sourcebooks, I´d love to see the part of the Western Heartlands fleshed out, that lies between the Dalelands/Sembia/Cormyr and the Swordcoast. WotC did a great job with the northern portion "Silver Marches". Although they´ve been done in previos editions, I´d love to see Waterdeep fleshed out anew again. Maybe even something called "The Cities", combining larger metropols from around the realms, including adventure hooks, npc´s and the like. A revised Volo´s Guide series would be welcomed as well, although with less rules information but even more so a mixture between novel/travel guide (along with better art than in the original Volo´s) By the way, we´ve seen sourcebooks aplenty, what about Modules and Adventures? Lacking time for preparation sometimes, I´d just be excited to see "Waterdeep-Adventures", "Dalelands-Adventures" or "Silver Marches-Adventures" (Don´t get me wrong, I know SM had adventures, but what about longer storylines, getting even more deeply involved into the specific local flair?) But my favourite would be the last mentioned by me: A REVISED Heroes and Villains Lorebook. Many novels have been written, our beloved characters have travelled far... It´s about time for those who can´t afford to read each and every novel to get an update and synopsis on all the global and minor players within the world that is called Toril. PLEASE WotC, DO THAT ONE FOR US! |
| glecharles12-17-03, 11:29 AM | I've seen it mentioned a couple of times on these boards in posts from early 2002. Has it been scrapped? Postponed? Never more than a rumor? I'm currently creating a campaign setting on the Chultan Peninsula centering on Tashalar, the Rundeen and the return of Waukeen - as well as developing some fiction I intend to pitch to WoTC at some point in the future! - and would love to know what, if anything, is forthcoming. Has there ever been any detailed info on this region? Any of the novels take place there? |
| the_heart12-17-03, 11:42 AM | glecharles: the 'ring of winter' by James Lowder takes place in Chult, and there is a Jungles of Chult source book, but i'm not aware of anything regarding the 'border kingdoms' of Tashalar etc.(my collection doesn't come close to that of some notables here, so thats not a comprehensive answer ;) ) |

| Wooly Rupert12-17-03, 02:49 PM | Just to clarify t'ings a bit, these are all modules: 9164, Sword of the Daimyo (Kara-Tur) 9186, Night of the Seven Swords (Kara-Tur) 9195, Ochimo, the Spirit Warrior (Kara-Tur) 9203, Blood of the Yakuzu (Kara-Tur) 9242, Mad Monkey vs. the Dragon Claws (Kara-Tur) 9257, Ronin Challenge (Kara–Tur) 9258, Test of the Samurai (Kara-Tur) 9307, Ninja Wars (Kara-Tur) The first few were first edition, and before Kara-Tur was officially part of the Realms. And the trail map is just that: a honkin' big ol' map. |
| Dargoth12-17-03, 04:47 PM | I wouldnt mind seeing stuff on the following Cold Lands (Damara etc) Moonsea Old Empires "The countrys from the bottom of the map" ie Chult, Dambrath Halurra, Luiren etc there hasnt been a alot on these areas |
| Srinshee12-17-03, 05:35 PM | Rich said that there's a sourcebook in the works somewhere down the line on the Old Empires and The South. Should be exciting... |
| Cernunnos12-17-03, 11:33 PM | Serpent Kingdoms might cover Chult... I know its probably going to cover some areas adjacent to it. Ronin Challenge has a whole lot about Southern Kara-Tur (almost down to Malatra). Really the wilds/ruined civilization portions of it. The Horde boxset also goes into details about the border areas (Tabot, etc.). There are also a few Dragon and Polyhedron articles, but nothing that goes into major detail (you can find a good list if you search for an issue index, I'm sure somebody will post one after I mention it). As for what has happened in Kara-Tur since the Time of Troubles... nothings been written. |

| Lashan12-18-03, 08:02 PM | Personally, I hope Maztica, Kara-Tura, and "the Lands of Fate" never get published again. They didn't really sell. Not many people actually liked them. They took away publsihing energy towards more useful products. I'm glad that WOTC says that they are giving up on the setting. They did have to waste a perfectly good issue of Dragon for these dead worlds. There was precious little in that magazine for me to use. In fact, I only think the regional feats for Greyhawk was the only thing I read. Bah! Ok...now that that rant is over, I think that there are a ton of areas that have NEVER had a sourcebook published on them that could really use one. SEMBIA is a great example. The restrictions on that area have been lifted and it is ripe for having sourcebooks created for it. My only fear is that what they write will not fit into what I have thought of for Sembia. If they make it more about the local and less about the players, then I think it will be a hit. I agree that one of the best series that they ever came out with were the VOLO'S GUIDE series. Still, they have stated that they are no longer producing "fluff" products. No more listings of the types of cheese for FR. Unfortunalty, that is exactly what makes the FR a great place. I have been thinking that Volo's falls into the fluff factor. If they did create one, I would like for it to be on the Moonsea area. As for areas that I would like to see updated would be SEMBIA, the MOONSEA, the Vast, or areas south of the Inner Sea. I'm not a fan of Haluraa, Lantan, Evermeet, or any of those other far off and too exotic areas. I am torn on the idea of a book about NPCs. On one hand, I think that the entire project is a waste and I would never buy it. On the other, perhaps if they did produce a book like this, they can stop having to stick in NPCs that were written about in a novel in every single freakin' sourcebook! They can quite giving out NPC states in their sourcebooks altogether. In fact, they can create a whole forum for NPCs so that people can argue wether Drizzt's states make him really bad-ass enough. Alright, I am in a sour mood, so I admit that I am crabby when writing this. Still, though, I don't want to see WOTC waste precious publishing info on any wasteful (in my humble opinion) product. |

| Arakon the Grey12-19-03, 11:16 AM | I want 3.5e books detailing Halruaa and Nimbral, then my life is complete as far as FR goes, been wanting Nimbral for a long time. |
| Sabre12-24-03, 09:21 PM | I would like to see a the sourcebook for the Old Empires. Mulharundi and Unther are truly unique in the Realms and deserves to be covered. That's my wish for Christmas. |
| PhilCW12-26-03, 08:08 PM | Although this thread pops up every few months or so, my opinions on future products change, so here goes: -Westgate (a contrast to Waterdeep which is a bit too goody two shoes unless you include undermountain and skullport). Westgate offers alot of possibilities, and I can see it being among the "mature audiences" books they have recently released. The book could be developped much like the "by night" series of books for World of Darkness. 1 section on the history of the city (much like the web enhancements for cloak and dagger), another section on the layout, a third on life in the city. Fourth section to detail the movers and shakers in Westgate, and the fifth and final section could involve the various plothooks and possibly an introductory adventure. Oh, and we musn't forget the crunchy bits for the players: New prestige classes (3-4 the main ones that gome to mind are possible updates for fire knives assassin, a smuggler type, a gladiator and hired goon, some roguish feats, new special items, poisons, drugs, etc. -Dungeon Master Guide to Faerun: Guide on how to run games in Faerun, focus on atmosphere, how to utilize elements in other books as well as more elaborate descriptions on the areas that are not explored yet in official cannon. Could also include a few short adventures to spicen things up, as well as include new or updated bestiary for Faerun. -Island Kingdoms "Beyond Faerun": Updating Moonshaes and Evermeet, and finally detailings the lands of Lantan and Nimbral as well as some other areas like whalebones, etc. Introduce again prestige classes for these areas, as well some feats. Go into detail on the various modes of transportation on the seas, and maybe keep a paragraph to describe what is going on with the colonies in Maztica. Oppertunities also include further developping the underwater life of the Sea of Swords and the Trackless Sea. Details on how to run seafaring campaigns could also be included. -Moonsea: The Moonsea has seen so many changes with the various changes in the Zhentarim and it definetly deserves a second (or third if you count Ruins of Zhentil Keep) look over. It also offers the possibility of a book where both Elminster and Manshoon could squabble over the veracity of each paragraph or statement (much like Elminster and Volo would do). With the Zhentarim already covered in Lords of Darkness, the stage is set for authors to look over the other elements of this region like geography and other cities like Hillsfar for instance. |
| glecharles12-26-03, 10:44 PM | Thanks for the input on my Serpent Kingdoms question. For anyone else interested, I came across this in my search: MARCH 2004: Venom's Taste -- Forgotten Realms House of the Serpents trilogy, Book One (paperback) Venom's Taste is the first title in a new trilogy exploring the political intrigues of the yuan-ti race, the details of which have been little explored in previous Forgotten Realms products. Lisa Smedman will be penning the entire trilogy, which will affect many other storylines in the Forgotten Realms setting. Not clear where it's being set yet but I would imagine Chult/Tashalar would be the most logical bet. |

Don't know where I picked up that idea, I think it was presented to me by my first gaming group. But I always thought that they were one in the same. Oriental Adventures is partly a generic sourcebook for any Eastern Medieval-Fantasy setting, and partly a Rokugan sourcebook. Rokugan is an EMF setting that is not part of Toril; however, in my campaign I have replaced Kara-Tur with Rokugan, in order to be able to use the new material (since I had never played Kara-Tur, it was not a big problem). |
| PhilCW12-27-03, 12:03 PM | The original oriental adventures (1e) was fairly generic. To my understanding, Kara-tur was later added to it in 2e. 3e uses Rokugan (Legend of the Five Rings) as the world model. |
| Wooly Rupert12-27-03, 01:14 PM | The original Oriental Adventures was Kara-Tur. I have the book. The Kara-Tur was originally set off in some unspecified area, but they later bolted it onto the Realms. |
