Welcome to the Realms!!!!

"What books do I need to get histories and maps of place in FR?"

The main book you want is the FRCS (Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting).
From there, there are all the suplimental books, and there are way to many of them to list here.
Some questions to ask before getting one of these supplemental books you need to ask yourself
What edition rules am I using?
Will I spend time in this area?
How much magic am I going to use?
Do I want the more monsters?
How much do I need to know about the evil orginizations?
Good orginizations?

You can find a list of the books for 3.0 and 3.5 accesories...(just look for the word "Accessory" in the 2nd coloum.

The earlier edition's accessories well that's a bit harder, but can be well worth it to find).

On these boards, we have a thread "Find me a Map," great if you are searching for smaller area maps (cities and such).

Another place to look is the FR FAQ forum Big sis set up.
http://boards1.wizards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=490
There, many questions are answered, threads that have links to FR web sites, etc., etc.

One of the best historical timelines can be had here... (this link is from the FAQ)

Another thing to do is look at the classic download section where you can get some of the earlier edition supplements for free.
This can help get a better feal for a few of the areas.
EDIT: I just tried to get a link to this page, and found it may have been deleted, sorry. :weep:

"Is Eberron and Forgotten Realms the same?"
As in they are both campaign settings(worlds), yes they are the same.
There are many different aspects about each world, histories, cultures and such so they are not the same.

What is a good store to get D&D stuff?
Many people have some luck gaining the books at some of the major book chains.
Most suggest supporting your FLGS (Friendly Local Gaming Store) if you have one, some comic book stores carry D&D material.
Personally, I order my stuff online.

Last but not least, you can almost always ask here if you have any questions. :D

The main book you will want is the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting book. Beyond that, it's up to you. After you read the FRCS, you can see what interests you the most and choose appropriate books afterwards.

No, Eberron and the Forgotten Realms aren't the same. They are two entirely different worlds where one can play D&D

Forgotten Realms products are available in most larger bookstores (although the selection might be limited). Special gaming stores and comic book stores also are likely to have FR products, and often a wider selection. Of course, you can purchase them online from a number of retailers...
