| Mangekyouoo SharingGan12-10-05, 02:08 AM | I wanna conduct A game using FR as Campaign Setting and Im kinda new tot his Setting? What's the best place to start with? Any advices? thanks in advance :) |
| Seraphim of Night12-10-05, 02:17 AM | The best place depends on your group and initial campaign setting. I would also recommend your histories and goals for your group members be compatible. Oh, yeah, alignment is something to consider as well, or any gods served. Do the members originate from other lands and coming together in a new, or are all from the same starting region? :P :P Lots to think about. :plotting: |
| Silverpanther12-10-05, 05:49 AM | thze best place to start are the western heartlands :) well... actually, the western heartlands (and further, the northwest of faerun) are very best places on toril :D and not only because you can found your own empire there and become caesar without any other kingdom feeling disturbed ;) |
| gratzu12-10-05, 12:45 PM | I didn't know anything about the Realms when I was "volunteered" to inherit a bunch of newbies when after one session my b/f decided that he didn't have the time to DM. In other words, don't get yourself too worked up, it's going to be ok. I know Farerun is a big place and there is a lot of stuff out there, but luckily you don't have to learn everything at once. For example, I set my campaign in the Silver Marches. They have just enough info published about it that it's reasonable for you to learn most of it without too much effort. Not only that, it's big enough for you to improvise easily. If you need a town here or a dungeon there you can just drop it in there. If you want your party to explore some more well known locations, they can. Just remember that the #1 rule of any game is to just have fun. If it's not fun, don't do it. Try not to worry about incorporating everything the realms have to offer all at once. Relax and the fun should come naturally. I'm sure you'll do fine! Good luck! |

| max4780412-12-05, 04:23 AM | I dont know if your still interested, but we have just started a "serious" FR campaign and as of right now its going great. Our DM started us out outside of Waterdeep and we ventured out from there. The great thing about Waterdeep is that there is so much to do there and so many places to find trouble or fortune. The one problem, if this would apply, is that your players might not feel special in this city overwealmed with powerfull figures, but for our campaign, we got asked by Blackstaff to do a quest for him, which in turn made us feel important as if were contributing to the FR universe. As gratzu said, any place you start out in is just as good as any other as long as you and your players both enjoy the time. We always talk about the near death encounters that we face in Faerun and we gloat about how we killed the baddies, but in all reality we just enjoy the time spent together. Have fun with the FR campagin, and dont stress out over it... You are the DM. ;) |
| Lord Karsus12-12-05, 11:17 PM | Where you want to start off really depands on who your group is, and what kinds of characters they are going to be playing. If you like wizardry, then you could start out in Silverymoon perhaps. Or, if you've got an evil cast, then perhaps Thay. The Realms are filled with so much stuff that you can find an area that will fit with the type of campaign you want to run. |
| Mangekyouoo SharingGan12-13-05, 05:36 AM | hmmm.. Let me think of it.. :thinks: I wanted to try something like underdark scenario's. What do you think? *I just bought "Fane of the drow" . :)-What do you suggest? I just want at least a story based Game and where in I can Incorporate some Monsters with good story or real cool history about them. Thanks again in advance :D |
| Seraphim of Night12-14-05, 03:13 AM | I am not sure about Fane of the Drow, but you might need the FRCS, the Underdark book, and the Player's Guide. Ched Nesad might be a really interesting place to start from with dark elves depending on the date you are starting, the same with the more obvious choice of Menzoberranzen. We are running City of the Spider Queen right now ( I am using the third character on my sig). It is important to consider your race and alignment though. If surface dwellers you will want convienent egress to and from the depths. You might be better of with a group of subterranean creatures (or in our case we are playing with a goup of Monster Classes....) or maybe even an undead member of your party if you are evil. I don't know the actual history of too many creatures from the underdark in the realms, but it has far more area than the surface. Anything goes down there. Beneath the Western Heartlands, between the High Moor & Evereska we have a group with a city in Lower Dark, headed by a lich priest, with lots of undead... :P The Underdark is a lot of fun if you haven't overplayed the underground scenario with your party. I recommend you use a lot of vivid descriptions and imagery to bring it to life around them, showing them an entire world below the surface ecosystems and all. It will show them that it's not just "another cave". :D |
