Ok, I'm not positive if this is the correct place for this, but I'ma post here anyways.
I have an idea for a killer FR game and wizards doesn't take unsolicited stuff, so I thought I might post the idea here, and if enough people like it, and perhaps a Wizard rep saw this, it might get things started.

My idea is fairly simple. Take the Dynasty Warriors/Samurai Warriors engine from Koei and use Forgotten Realms creatures, characters, weapons, and settings to tell the story of some of the epic battles that have taken place. For example, the Assault on Mythril Hall by the Drow. The reclaiming of Mythril Hall. The Battle for Ten-Towns(barbarians as the bad guys). The Assault on Ten-Towns (Akar Kessell).

All of these are some fairly epic fights, and would be awesome to play firsthand with the Koei engine. With only a few tweaks to some of the button mapping it could work fairly easily.

(using ps2 controls for dw4)
Square - Attack
Triangle - Charge Attack/Special Ability
Circle - Magic/Special Attack
X - Jump

for example with Drizzt Do'Urden it would be like this.

Square - Basic scimitar attack
Circle - Scimitar Whirlwind (or another of his moves, or better still, several of his special fighting moves and at the beginning you choose one to use for that particular battle, with the option of strengthening favorite moves)
Triangle - By itself let it be Drizzt's darkness skill, allow him to form a cloud of darkness around himself, or target it somewhere, say 15 ft in front of himself for a certain amount of time
X - Jump

another example could be Harkle Harpell

Square - Attack with a staff
Triangle - Charge attack - uses a type of magic that you set beforehand such as Burning Hands, Fireball, Ray of Frost etc (use square, triangle or square, square, triangle to use a stronger form of the spell)
Circle - a special spell you set beforehand, instead of a musou gauge make it a magic point gauge, starts full, each spell use diminishes it somewhat)
X - Jump

and so on for each general type character. for defense each could have a certain type, bruenor uses his shield, drizzt does the classic x-cross parrying of his scimitars, a mage could enact a magic shield around himself

the possibilities are quite numerous.

for throwing weapons each race could use a certain thing, drow=mini crossbow, dwarves=throwing axe/hammer, humans/elves=arrows, etc. shouldnt be much trouble there.

take for example the dwarves battle against the drow, here could be an example of it

start off defending the main encampment with bruenor, drizzt, cattie-brie, after a set interval they decide to go off alone, so dagnabbit is put in charge, and bruenor, drizzt, cattie-brie, regis, and guenwyvar set off alone they encounter matron baenre's party and fight them, with the end result of them winning

the weapons thing is fairly easy as well, have each general's lvl 10 weapon be their weapons from the books
Bruenor could claim the mythril axe of his forefather
Drizzt would have Icingdeath and Twinkle
Cattie-brie could have Taulmaril and Khazidea
Wulfgar could have Aegis-Fang

you could even work in the paper doll system, item wise, you could find rings, boots, cloaks, helms, armor, bracers, shields all in the battles, and then equip them on your character, maybe making a change in their outward appearance, maybe not, but you could still use that to increase certain stats.

another cool thing would be the create officer feature, you could create your own drow, dwarf, human, elf, or maybe even a frost giant. and do the same for your bodyguards!

I figure if such a game were developed it would be a big seller, I mean I love reading the books, and one reason I love most rpg's is that it lets me be a part of the story, and knowing forgotten realms readers, they would love nothing more than to be able to take part in some of these epic battles and fight as their favorite villain/hero and either save the day, or destroy all that oppose them. There are also plenty of hero/villains to make into generals for the army.

Hero -

Bruenor Battlehammer
Drizzt Do'Urden
Cattie-Brie
Wulfgar
Regis
Cadderly Bonaduce
Ivan Bouldershoulders
Pikel Bouldershoulders (heh, I would love to play as him, oo oi!!)
Danica Maupoissant (think thats right, can't remember off the top of my head)
Alustriel
Harkel Harpell
(a couple other Harkells, including Bidderdoo)

Villains -

Jarlaxle Baenre
Matron Yvonne/Yvonnel Baenre
Quenthel Baenre
Gromph Baenre
(the warrior that attacks shilmista, forgot his name)
Cadderly's father (I know I know I should remember these, but I'm just writing this off the top of my head)
Artemis Entreri
Akar Kessel
Errtu
Berginyon Baenre
Profft the Troll
King Obould Many-Arrows
Urlgen (Obould's son)
Gerti Orelsdotter

as well as the possibility for some secret special characters that I'm sure everyone would kill to play as

Zaknafein Do'Urden
Guenwhyvar (would be fun as all h*ll to play as her)
Elminster Aumar
Khelben "Blackstaff" Arunsun
Storm
Dove Falconhand

I mean, this would be a kickass game, hell I'm already drooling over it and it doesnt even exist anywhere but in my mind (hehe).

There is always the possibility for sequels as well, I mean hell there are a ton of Forgotten Realms novels, and some pretty epic battles, and always more on the horizon, God willing.

So hopefully someone will see this that has the power to make this dream a reality. Until them, to everyone that reads this, post up a reply if you want to see a game like this as soon as possible, and tell all your friends that like this sort of thing, who knows, the more people that read this the higher our chance of making it a reality.

The grognards that typically enjoy truly epic battles tend to shun fantasy material and go for historical ones instead.

why koei anyway? thier graphics engine is two years out of date and no one would buy it with koei's name on it since they havn't come up with anything truly original or compelling since .... dynasty warriors 2? if you were to do this it would be better to do it with someone else who has a better graphics engine. but look at it this way, none of the dynasty warriors games after 2 anyway were exactly major chart topping hits. in fact koei is in something of a rut since dynasty warriors 2 was pretty much their last game that sold really well.
i'd probably get rid of the idea of playing mages... it doesn't work, i'm not sure if you played demon stone, it was set in FR and allowed players to take control of Drizzt briefly but the sorcerer character was cheap and had annoying gameplay mechanics.
anyway sorry if i crapped on your parade, it's a sound idea i just don't see it being the best seller you envision.

They already did this with Demon Stone actually.
