I was thinking of running a campaign for 4 of my friends, i was thinking of starting it in Icewind Dale and have them guarding a caravan down to water deep but i was just wondering if anyone had any good filler ideas for me, other than some orcs and some giants attacking, and a base lvl i was thinking of starting them off at was 2nd

I ran a similar scenario at one time, although my players were at a higher level than yours at that point in the campaign.

Lets see, I had some kobolds living up in the Spine of the World mountains led by a white dragon, and some half-dragon/kobold elites that ended up capturing them.

They ran into a behir at one point.

They were tracked for a while by a psionic yeti (I used the yeti from Oriental Adventures with a few levels of psychic warrior) who was bearing a heavy grudge against them for slaughtering its mate.

There was a memorable encounter with Uthgardt barbarians from the Raven tribe who summoned a Roc sized raven spirit at one point.

There were Luskan marauders to contend with too.

That was about it for that leg of the campaign.

Good luck to you with yours.

By the way, there is a published adventure for low-level characters set in Icewind Dale, involving a fallen wizard's tower I believe. It is worth checking out, it might be exactly what you want, and it has some cool maps of the area if I remember correctly.

I believe that would be the Accursed Tower, IIRC.

Maybe Mount Hotenow, the volcano in Neverwinter Wood, erupts just as their caravan passes along the wood. A fey creature bearing hideous burn marks (a nymph would be most tragic) is seen running from the woods and even though she is not willing to talk, she knows more about how exactly the eruption came about.

Or the party could encounter a wounded warrior on the edge of the Mere of Dead Men who claims he's found a treasure-filled ruin from wich he had to run due to the presence of not-so-friendly lizardfolk (bullywugs and sivs work too). Or maybe this warrior has witnessed some fell ritual in a hidden shrine in the swamp practiced by followers of the dead god Myrkul who are bent on bringing their deity back to life.

Wow, I really like that Mt. Hotenow idea...that could be put to great use....hmm.

Without Hotenow then Neverwinter wouldnt be so....Never, just a lot of Winter
