| theforgottendrow03-17-06, 02:47 PM | Ive never played forgotten realms or D&D and i was wondering if 'Forgotten Realms: Campaign Option (Dungeons & Dragons Accessory)' had all the rules in or would i have to buy the D&D players handbook as well? Also how many people do you need to play? |
| Damador03-17-06, 02:55 PM | to play any D&D ( greyahwk / FR/ Eberron) you need thre core books - or the same for frre webthing called SRD 3.5 it contains all needed rules FR and Eberron have their campaign settings that describes their own campaign worlds i didn heard about anything like "Forgotten Realms: Campaign Option" |
| MaskedOne03-17-06, 04:45 PM | Forgotten Realms: Campaign Option is I believe an older edition's version of the FRCS. If you're going to work with the modern rule sets than I suggest The Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting, you will need the core rules for Dungeons and Dragons. The majority of which are in the SRD but you'll need the Player's Handbook, the Dungeon Master's Guide and the Monstrous Manual as well. If each of the core books says 3.5 in the title then you've got the recent stuff. Player's Guide to Faerun updates the FRCS to 3.5 but 3.0 is close enough to 3.5 that you can do without that book for a little while |
| SirUrza03-18-06, 06:22 PM | As a player you need 3 books in my honest opinion. Player's Handbook (PHB): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0786928867 Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting (FRCS): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0786918365 Player's Guide to the Forgotten Realms (PGFR): http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0786931345 You need the PHB because that contains the Core rules for playing ANY Dungeons & Dragons game. You need the FRCS becuase that contains all information you need to know about the Realms. You need the PGFR because Wizards changed the rules of the game (3E to 3.5E, something for a different discussion) and instead of releasing a new version of the FRCS (like they did with everything else) they decided to charge us $30 for content that should have just been updated. Better for them to make everyone spend $70 on books instead of making the veterans by a new FRCS (or download a free or 'cheap' digital update with ONLY update information) and instead of making NEW players like yourself by 2 books and just get confused on why you need the same stat information twice in 2 different editions. |

Indeed I was wondering... I was standing in the shop going over the two books and found a lot of similar information. I bought FRCS eventually. |

No. New 3.5 players need the Player's Guide to Faerun, not the Player's Guide to the Forgotten Realms, which is a completely different 2e supplement. |
| XdboyX04-08-06, 05:53 PM | i didn heard about anything like "Forgotten Realms: Campaign Option" They call it that on Amazon.co.uk, I'm not sure about any of the other Amazons. Theforgottendrow: You could do to get the Dungeonmasters guide V3.5, Players handbook V3.5, and the monstersmanual V3.5. The Forgotten Realms Campaign settings Contains all the information on Forgotten Realms. |
| Zanan04-09-06, 04:32 AM | Before you spend serious money, you could well have a look at FR material of the previous edition (AD&D), which is available as a free download here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads) and much of the general descriptions are still valid today. Just ignore most info on NPCs (people mentioned) with regards to class levels as well as the monsters in there. |
