*mods*...if this is in the wrong section please move..ty

Hello all, my name is Josh. I started reading FR after reading LOTR books about 100 times each and I instantly fell in love. I bought the books at barnes and nobles and just started reading them...in the total wrong order ofcourse...I started with the Elminster in MD and have just kept buying books there and online in no particular order (over 30 of them). It is very hard to establish any kind of timeline when your reading "the making of a mage" one day, then "the last mythal the next".

I have lurked here before but when I read I have absolutely no idea of what you guys are talking about...does anyone here just read the books and not play the game? I have a couple questions and observations that i would love your input on.

1. At the end of "elminster in MD" there is a reference to a human named "Shadow"..anyone know who this is?

2. Does anyone else think the last book in the "avatar series" sucked...oriental humans that wouldn't bow to mystra?...that was just a disgrace IMO...the book revealed too many secrets of the gods..some things are best left unknown.

3. <important> I have been trying to find books on the following subjects:

*The fall of myth drannor
*Books about Netheril
*Books about the 7 citedal wars
*Books on the early life of the Blackstaff
*Any books pre-Netheril

4. How did Elminster get trapped in that tomb in the beginning of "the temptation of Elminister"?

.........

Ok thats a pretty good start. I was also curious about the games you guys play..do you play them online against each other? I had bought something online about the fall of netheril thinking it was a book and it was a game thing....I was sooooo mad...I bought another one of them also by mistake (forget which one)...Anyway, nice to meet you all, thanks for your help and sorry for any spelling errors...and sorry for length of post!:P

I haven't read a lot of 'Elminster' books', but I would reccomend the recently released Grand History of the Realms if you wish to view an extensive timeline of the Forgotten Realms (with maps!)

1. no clue

2. Most here think the entire series sucked, mostly because it revealed too much (as you said).

3. Download sources for FREE from Here. (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads) Those are game sources, but if you look at the second to the bottom entry, that is exactly what you are looking for and it contains quite a bit of history. ;)

4. Once again, no clue (although I almost purchased that novel just tonight).

As of right now, the game is Pencil & Paper, but when 4th Edition is released at the beginning of next year they will make an online resource available so players can get together on the internet.

Welcome to the community - we like to talk about the Realms with both the novels AND the game in mind, but don't be afraid to 'speak up' and ask us a question when you don't understand something.

1. Could be Lord Shadow, the ancient archmage of Netheril who shoved his whole enclave into the Plane of Shadow before the empire fell.

Welcome aboard. As a newbie, feel free to ask all sorts of questions. There's no such thing as a dumb question, at least not for this group.
