| FroMagnum12-31-06, 03:32 PM | Okay, I just got The Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting for my birthday yesterday, I've read through it and everything. Now, I've noticed that in the geography chapter the book lists the countries(?) and plentiful information about it, but it doesn't show maps of the villages, towns, etc. why is this? Need I make my own maps of the settlements?.... Also a quick idea about where and how I should start my campaign. Thanks... |

It is an excellent source to learn about the setting, but you should pick up the books pertaining to the individual areas you are interested in if you want greater detail and maps. You don't need them to run adventures, but the level of detail in books like The Shining South and The Unapproachable east make them well worth it IF you plan on playing in those areas. Unfortunately, most of the localized maps you are looking for will be in those books (mostly cities), and even then maps and towns are far and few between. You might want to check out The Free Downloads (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/mwa/archive2004) of maps Wizards offers. They're mostly generic, but they will help if you need that sort of thing to start out. |

Sometimes the detailed information has been published, sometimes it's been created but is unpublished (as is the majority of Realmslore), sometimes it hasn't been worked out. Start your campaign in a small settlement that your PCs are attached to, somewhere in the Heartlands, and work outwards from there. If we all deleted our posts just because they made no sense, there'd be a lot less discussion on these boards. |
