| DonGnocci06-06-05, 08:51 AM | Hi Folks! I need some modules published for FR... but i can't find any official modules except CotSQ(which i have bought already) ... Any hints where i can buy/get more modules for Forgotten Realms? Thx! [I'm asking because i want to insert an adventure so the PCs can uplevel a bit, before they can face that overlord lich they were hunting since level 5...] |
| Kid SixXx06-06-05, 09:01 AM | No, there will be no more published modules for the FR. It was a financial decision made a while ago. One option is to doctor the numerous free adventures in the WoTC archives on this website, and another is to get a subscription to Dungeon magazine, as you can use either the generic or FR specific material for your campaign. Dungeon currently is running a lowbie-to-epic storyline called the "Age of Worms" which looks good so far. I am adopting it for my Eberron sessions. |
| ksbsnowowl06-06-05, 10:13 AM | There was also an adventure for 6th-ish level characters published in the early days of 3.0 - they went exploring in Myth Drannor, and it involved the Cult of the Dragon. It was called Pools of Radiance, IIRC. Loosley based on the computer game. |

WOTC is going to start releasing modules again and there is one for FR set for release later this year. :) Eye of Gruumash, I believe it's called. (I could never spell that darn orc deities name!) Also there is another 3e one that is called Into the Dragon’s Lair. It's set to tie in with the Death of the Dragon novels and the events around/after that time in Cormyr. |

The Orc adventure is seen is the Wizards of the Coast product catalog for later this year. I think it is called Eye or Gruumsh or Sons of Gruumsh or something similar. Also WotC is releasing adventures based off of poster maps and a couple of those show up in the product catalog as well. One is called Fane of the Drow and another is called Hellspike prison. I happened to glance at the catalog at my local game shop last time I was in and the new stuff looks really interesting. |
| mahler06-06-05, 04:11 PM | The adventure in question is indeed called Sons of Gruumsh. Here's (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=418399) a link to a thread about it in the Adventures part of the forum. It looks like it has promise, but don't expect anything near the size and scope of CotSQ. It's a modest 32 pages and supposedly facilitates the use of miniatures. This sounds to me like it's aimed more at encouraging us to go buy lots of cool minis rather than supporting the setting through adventures, but maybe I'm being too skeptical. Anyway, at this point I'll take what I can get, and hope it's just the beginning. |

| Faraer06-06-05, 04:20 PM | Also (I would say 'moreover'), Dungeon #126 will have the first of Eric Boyd's three-part "Dungeon of the Crypt" adventure set in Waterdeep and, one supposes, the Dungeon of the Crypt. And to quote from Dungeon #124, "You'll also want to hunt down Dragon #334, where we'll launch a new Ed Greenwood column on the cities of the Forgotten Realms, and Dragon #335, where we'll celebrate the 20th anniversary of Waterdeep, City of Splendors." (20th anniversary? What happened in 1985?) |
| DonGnocci06-06-05, 06:19 PM | Well... Dungeon/Dragon Magazine is no option at all... You pay way too much for a copy of Dragon/Dungeon in Germany. [Most shops want around 8-9 Euros for a copy AFAIK, i won'T support such rip-off] So i gotta hope that WotC will publish more GOOD modules... I don't want the ones published for general D&D, because most of 'em are IMAO very very horrible to read and DM. I thought about buying some modules, but after i flipped through some pages, i was quite disappointed that most of them offered nothing else than hack & slash. Well... i'm quite tired writing my own adventures... Thanks a lot guys for the info... [though, pityfully, it won't help me...] |
| mahler06-06-05, 08:36 PM | If you didn't mind doing a little extra work (and you haven't already done this), you could always try to pick up some of the earlier edition adventures and just convert to 3.5. I've done this several times so far in my FR campaign and it's worked well on all occasions. The amount of work I put into incorporating an adventure into my campaign doesn't really seem to depend much on whether it's 3.5 or some older edition. It's always an option since there are several available for for free in the "downloads" section of the D&D website and RPGnow has pdf files of everything else for under $5 each. If you want hard copies, just keep checking eBay until something cheap comes up. |
| Alac Luin06-06-05, 08:52 PM | Have you looked at the free downloadable adventures? http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/oa/20030530b Some aren't good for FR at all, some are easily convertible. And one is specifically FR (Fang, Beak, and Claw). If you think they are cheesy, you are out nothing but the time it took to download. :D |
| DonGnocci06-09-05, 08:41 AM | @Mahler: I'm not going to pay for web-based pdfs. Cut that. And no, i won't download adventures for 2nd. Ed. to convert them to 3.0 (i'm not using 3.5), because i did not play and DM 2nd. Ed. And YES, i checked the downloads here at wizards.com, but most of them are just fleshed out encounters IMAO, not whole modules. @Alac Luin: I guess i downloaded about 80-90% of the offered free modules for 3.0/3.5 BUT most of them are VERY meager... in terms of being fleshed out... *rofl* I even downloaded Fang, Beak and claw... i was very excited... But i was very disappointed when i read it... it was not an whole adventure, but a mere expanded encounter... an evil druid taming an owlbear to spread terror and havoc... *sigh* what a fresh and NEW idea... *sigh* Seems like i need to run CotSQ AGAIN. Or keep making adventures myself. Well. No money for WotC this time. Pityfully. |
| Skif06-09-05, 02:54 PM | And no, i won't download adventures for 2nd. Ed. to convert them to 3.0 (i'm not using 3.5), because i did not play and DM 2nd. Ed. This I do not understand. You're looking for module/adventure/campaign ideas, but are going to ignore several dozen (if not about 100) already published ones, simply because they don't "crunch" the same way you do? If you're looking for ideas: THEY ARE IDEAS. So when it says "Orc" use the 3.x MM for "Orc" rather than what's in that particular print. It's not like (or it shouldn't be) the first time you read through something is real-time, during the game. Get the flavor of it, and then do what you need to make it work, no matter what rule base you use - this should be shorter than having to come up with the idea and the execution that you would need to do when creating one from nothing. THis isn't specific to any person, I just don't understand the "It doesn't say 3.xE/d20, so I can't use it" mentality - I'll use any module that has a good concept, whether the DMG I'm holding is 1E, 3.5, or even a non-D&D game. |
| tariff06-09-05, 08:48 PM | I actually agree with Dongnocci. He didnt say he was looking for ideas, he said he was looking for modules. I agree with him that most of the free downloadable adventures are nothing more than small encounters. I also dont see why people fail to understand why people dont have time/inclination to convert stuff. Or why they dont want to subscribe to dungeon magazine. And just swapping a orc for a orc maybe ok...but theres alot of cases where this dosent work (try a 3rd edition Balor for a 3.5 one). Bottom Line: Wizards are not supporting thier game, infact, id say there supplying an incomplete game without publishing modules. Now, im glad this is being rectified.. but how long has it taken, there none (count em: 0), 3.5 adventures for the Realms at the moment....how long has 3.5 been out? But it is good to see they are starting to realise the error of thier ways. Im personally sick to death with source books... combine source information with a decent big module is what id like to see. |
